Abstract The increase of high-risk newborns due to societal changes has presented neonatal intensive care unit nurses with more ethical challenges and heightened their perception of neonatal palliative care. Therefore, this study was a descriptive survey exploring the perceptions of neonatal intensive care unit nurse regarding biomedical ethics and neonatal palliative care in neonatal intensive care units. The research participants were 97 neonatal intensive care unit nurses who had been directly involved with end-of-life care for high-risk babies. Data were collected from November to December 2021 through an online survey. The Korean version of Neonatal Palliative Care Attitude Scale and the tool of biomedical ethics were used. The collected data were analyzed using the

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of psychological separation and health locus of control on the health care transition readiness of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with type 1 diabetes.
Methods: Data were collected between December 2020 and October 2021. One hundred twelve AYAs with type 1 diabetes treated at a tertiary hospital and under follow-up observation as well as AYAs with type 1 diabetes nationwide who were part of the type 1 diabetes internet community were enrolled. The Psychological Separation Inventory, the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control scale from C, and the Self-management and Transition to Adulthood with Therapeutics = Rx Questionnaire were used.
    Results: Multiple regression analysis indicated that age (β = 0.302, p = .001), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) (β = -0.174, p = .040), conflictual separation (β = 0.242, p = .005), functional separation (β = 0.200, p = .045) and attitudinal separation (β = -0.240 p = .015) were significantly associated with health management transition readiness; these predictors explained 27.6% of health care transition readiness (F = 8.062, p = .000).
Conclusions: AYAs with type 1 diabetes can enhance readiness for health care transition by fostering psychological separation from parents, effectively managing blood glucose levels, and taking into account age-related factors during the preparation process. At this point, it is essential for healthcare professionals to guide parents in recognizing adolescents' psychological independence and facilitating their supportive role through the process of redefining their roles.
Practice implications: Health care providers should promote psychological separation in AYAs. Additionally, taking into account the developmental characteristics of adolescence can facilitate a successful health care transition.

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate perceptions of fatherhood among fathers of high-risk neonates and their confidence regarding neonatal care.
Methods: A study was conducted of 100 fathers whose neonates had been admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for at least 48 hours. Perceptions of fatherhood, neonatal characteristics, and fathers' confidence regarding neonatal care were measured using a self-reported questionnaire. The survey took approximately 10 minutes to complete and was completed anonymously. The factors that affected fathers' confidence regarding neonatal care were analyzed using multiple regression.
Results: The scores for positive and negative perceptions of fatherhood were relatively high at 4.27 and 3.42 out of 5 points, respectively. A positive perception of fatherhood was found to influence fathers' confidence regarding neonatal care.
Conclusion: NICU nurses should encourage fathers to effectively perform their parenting roles by implementing educational programs and interventions to promote positive perceptions of fatherhood and fathers' confidence regarding neonatal care after discharge.

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare perceived parental empathy between adolescents with and without leukemia.
Methods: This study used a cross-sectional, descriptive design. Thirty-eight adolescents with leukemia and 205 without, completed a self-reported questionnaire regarding their perceptions of parental empathy and general characteristics. For this comparative study, adolescents were selected through matched sampling, and 38 adolescents per group were used for analysis. Data were examined using independent t-tests.
Results: In terms of parental empathy, excessive emotional reactions and cold emotional reactions were perceived more frequently by adolescents with leukemia than healthy adolescents. Differences between the two groups were statistically significant.
Conclusion: Since parents caring for children with leukemia have an extra burden in caring for their children, these parents are continuously anxious about prognoses, and tend to feel guilty for their child's disease. Thus, healthcare providers need to develop a program for improving the ability of parents of cancer patients to demonstrate empathy, focusing on how to recognize and manage what may be perceived by their children as excessive or cold emotional reactions, and must take a role in communicating to parents how adolescents with leukemia perceive parental rearing behaviors and the impacts of these behaviors on their well-being.

Abstract Aim: To examine health-related quality of life trajectories among older adults with diabetes mellitus (DM).
Design: A sequential explanatory mixed method study protocol.
Methods: In the quantitative phase, health-related quality of life trajectory over 5 years, from 2009 to 2013, of a national representative sample (N = 440) of older adults with DM was analysed using group-based modelling. Next, a qualitative multiple case study (N = 10) was conducted between November 2017 and April 2018. In the mixed phase, by linking the quantitative and qualitative data, similarities and differences among the four trajectories were identified.
Results: Four distinctive health-related quality of life trajectories could be distinguished: high then decrease, high stable, medium stable and low then increase. These differed in attitude towards DM, self-management of DM-related tasks, comorbidity-related health-related quality of life, coping with DM and financial concerns about medical needs.
Relevance to clinical practice: Our results help illuminate the heterogeneity of health-related quality of life trajectories in older adults with DM. This research may help healthcare providers understand the need to assess the HR-QoL comprehensively and promote HR-QoL for older adults with DM.

Abstract This scoping review aimed to systematically explore the complex and nuanced perceptions of residents entrusted with significant responsibilities by their supervisors in the clinical context. We conducted a comprehensive search strategy targeting six major electronic databases. Data were extracted using the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) checklist and a scoping review protocol. Resident perceptions regarding entrustment and its impact on learning and professional development were categorized. This review elucidated the role of supervisor entrustment in shaping residents' clinical performance, notably influencing autonomy, self-confidence, responsibility for patients, learning needs and goals, uncertainty management, and professional identity formation. Residents identified factors that promote and hinder performance and entrustment development resulting from supervisor entrustment and distinguished between appropriate supervision and over- or under-supervision. Our review suggests that residents' perceptions of supervisor entrustment, as bestowed by supervisors, serves as a catalyst for enhancing autonomy, thereby exerting a significant influence on clinical performance, and fostering the development of a professional identity. However, residents' views on appropriate supervision differ in some ways from supervisors' perspectives. Further research is needed to bridge the gap between residents' expectations of autonomy and what they are given, and to explore the intricate relationship between autonomy and entrustment.
