Abstract Sayısız toplum sağlığı stratejileri geliştirimesine rağmen neden olduğu fatal seyreden COVID-19 insidansları artmaya devam etmiştir.

Abstract Background: Adapting to a nursing home has a significant effect on facilitating the transition to a nursing home. However, a tailored nursing home adjustment scale for Turkish nursing home residents is not yet available. The purpose of this study was to translate the nursing home adjustment scale from English to Turkish and assess its reliability and validity in a sample of nursing home residents in Turkey.
Methods: A total of 202 older adults from four nursing homes were included in this study. The reliability of the Turkish nursing home adjustment scale was tested using Cronbach's alpha values for internal consistency. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to examine the factor structure, whereas correlation analysis was conducted for convergent validity.
Results: The Turkish version displayed satisfying internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88) and perfect convergent validity for life satisfaction (r = 0.482). The Turkish scale included five factors: difficulty fitting in, acceptance of new residence, emotional distress, depressed mood, and relationship development.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that the Turkish version of the scale is a valid and reliable tool for measuring the level of nursing home adjustment among older adults in Turkey.

Abstract Background and objectives: In a Turkish cohort study, we revealed first time in literature the gender differences in admission to hospital and rates of mortality for diabetic patients with COVID-19.
Materials and methods: The demographics, length of stay, mortality rates and concomitant chronic metabolic diseases of 152 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were found in our hospital electronic document system (Probel) and recorded in excel files for further statistical analysis.
Results: In the mortality group (n:22), the numbers of men and women were 9 (40.9%) and 4 (18.2%), respectively. Comparing gender rates in diabetic group, the mortality risk of diabetic men was higher and statistically significant (
Conclusion: We hope that the findings of this research will give scientists an idea of gender differences in viral pandemics for further studies.

Abstract With this case report, we want to assess the synergistic effect of both a diuretic and an SGLT-2 inhibitor on the fall event of a patient who is 65 years old and has a history of repeated falls before. After we modified the medications appropriately, she has never experienced a fall event again. So as we know, older adults do not take fall events as a pathological condition instead of a normal physiological aging process. So primary-care physicians should question the fall history of an older patient before starting a drug such as SGLT-2 inhibitors, which is known as an agent that has side effects including falls, dehydration, etc.

Abstract Background and objectives: With this study, for the first time among patients diagnosed with COVID-19, the neutrophil-lymphocyte-ratios of men and women were compared.
Materials and methods: The study was conducted with 80 patients and the data was gained retrospectively on the electronic documents of the hospital.
Results: The neutrophil-lymphocyte-ratio was statistically significant and higher in the male than the women for all ages and geriatric patients (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The higher neutrophil-lymphocyte-ratio in older males diagnosed with COVID-19 could be a causative reason for the higher mortality rates in men. We hope that these findings would be helpful for further studies.

Abstract The aim: this study presents a Coronavirus Stigma Scale for Healthcare Providers that indicates the social stigmatisation rate and severity toward healthcare providers to a certain extent. This paper aims at raising awareness on the stigmatisation of healthcare providers who sacrifice their own lives for patients diagnosed or are at risk of being infected with COVID-19. Methods: the study uses a 12-item 5-point Likert-type Coronavirus Stigma Scale for Healthcare Providers, which was constructed based on the previously shortened and modified HIV Stigma Scale. The scale was distributed online to healthcare providers, and all the results obtained were then saved to an Excel file. Correlations were determined by using ANOVA and the independent t-test. Percentages, averages, figures and rates were calculated with SPSS. Results: the population of the study comprised 136 participants in total; 40 male and 96 female. Reliability and validity studies were conducted using Cronbach’s alpha and factor analysis. The stigmatisation rate toward healthcare providers was found to be significantly high, and the stigmatisation level was found to increase significantly with increasing age (p<0.05). Conclusions: the mistreatment of stigmatised healthcare providers during a pandemic where the need for them is elevated results in adverse outcomes; therefore, anti-stigma programmes need to be developed. It would be wise to find solutions such as acknowledging the stigma and introducing anti-stigma programmes.

Abstract The aim: The Japanese word “ikigai” indicates “something to live for” and “having a purpose in life”. Ikigai or well-being, has been associated with many positive outcomes in the physical and mental health of elderly people. In this study, the relationship between ikigai and level of physical activity and polypharmacy was examined in a Turkish population. Material and methods: Both telephonic interviews and face-to-face interviews were conducted with 307 participants (59.2 % women) who completed the Ikigai-9 Turkey Scale and provided demographic information. Results: Correlations between groups (polypharmacy vs. non-polypharmacy) were analyzed with an independent t-test and analysis of variance. The means of the ikigai scores were statistically significant in the polypharmacy (24.04±8.72) and non-polypharmacy 32.64±7.53) groups (p<0.05). The number of drugs used was negatively correlated with duration of exercise per week (1.32±1.82, correlation coefficient = 0.538, p<0.05). Conclusions: The level of ikigai was negatively correlated with polypharmacy and positively correlated with duration of physical activity. An individual’s ikigai should be assessed by healthcare providers to maximize positive outcomes later in life

Abstract Background: As we know that close contact is the main reason of the contagious diseases, caregivers are at higher risk for diseases that we can prevent by vaccines. In present study, we aim at revealing an example of clinical inertia in geriatrics, which shows us the status of vaccination both in a group of older patients and their caregivers.
Materials and methods: Both the caregivers and their dependent geriatric patients were included, and the selection of the participants was designed on a random and volunteer basis. We performed the study with a phenomenological design and asked the participants their vaccination status. For the participants that were not vaccinated, the reasons were questioned with a demographic form. Correlations between parameters were analyzed with an independent
Results: A total of 144 caregivers with 21 men (14.6%) and 123 female (85.4%) were included in the study. A total of 111(77.1%) caregivers had never been vaccinated before, while 21 (14.6%) caregivers were vaccinated occasionally, and finally, 12 (8.3%) caregivers were vaccinated on a regular base. The vaccination status of the older adults was as follows: 42 patients (29.2%) had never been vaccinated before, 60 (41.7%) had been vaccinated occasionally, and 42 (29.2%) patients had been vaccinated regularly.
Conclusion: The vaccination rates of caregivers and older patients were lower than we expected, so primary-care providers need to plan more vaccination awareness studies in social media and communities. Clinical inertia might be an essential reason in the lower vaccination rates of the caregivers and older adults' population.
