Abstract Atmospheric water collection provides a new solution to overcome the issue of water shortage. Learning from the smart creatures, biomimetic materials with the ability of fog harvesting have been development based on the surface wettability. Herein, a hydrophobic glass with high transparency could be fabricated to mimic the wettability patterns on the back of Stenocara beetle, by combining with different patterned masks and UV treatment method. The water collection rate of hydrophobic/superhydrophilic patterned glass has been optimized by changing and combining the size of superhydrophilic patterns on the hydrophobic surface, as well as the percent of superhydrophilic area. Comparing with uniform superwetting surfaces, the fog harvesting efficiency of fabricated patterned surface has been improved. The surface with smaller superhydrophilic pattern size and larger percent of superhydrophilic pattern area exhibits a higher fog harvesting efficiency. In the other hand, the hydrophobic glass could be modified to be superhydrophilic/underwater superoleophobic without mask under UV treatment, which has the ability of acid and alkali resistance.

Abstract Introduction: Smoking increases the risk of various cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease (IHD). This study aimed to assess the impact of age, period, and cohort on long-term trends in IHD mortality in China, India, Indonesia, the United States, and Russia, the five countries with the highest number of smokers, from 1990 to 2019.
Material and methods: The data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2019, and the age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) was calculated. Joinpoint regression analysis was used to assess the magnitude and direction of trends in smoking-attributable mortality from IHD. Age-period-cohort (APC) studies were used to estimate net drift (estimated annual percentage change (EAPC)s), local drift (age-specific EAPCs), and independent trends in age, period, and cohort effects.
Results: The analysis revealed a significant downward trend in ASMRs attributable to IHD as a result of smoking in the United States, India, and Russia. Indonesia and China showed an upward trend. Age effects were increasing for both country and sex, with China showing the most significant increase in the older age group; period effects were decreasing in all countries except Indonesia, and cohort effects were increasing only in Indonesia and China.
Conclusions: From 1990 to 2019, mortality from IHD caused by smoking showed a downward trend in these five countries. However, the pattern of increased mortality from IHD in women caused by smoking warrants further study.

Abstract Background: Numerous inflammatory skin diseases are associated with the gut microbiota. Studies of the association between gut microbiota and inflammatory skin diseases have yielded conflicting results owing to confounding factors, and the causal relationship between them remains undetermined.
Methods: Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to examine the association between gut microbiota and four common inflammatory skin diseases: acne, psoriasis, urticaria and atopic dermatitis. The summary statistics of the gut microbiota from the largest available genome-wide association study meta-analysis (n = 13,266) conducted by the MiBioGen consortium along with the summary statistics of the four diseases were obtained from the FinnGen consortium. Causal relationships were assessed using the inverse variance weighted (IVW), weighted median, MR-Egger and maximum likelihood methods, and several sensitivity analyses were performed to ensure the accuracy of the results. Finally, reverse and multivariable MR analyses were performed to verify the robustness of the results.
Results: We found causal associations of Bacteroidaceae [odds ratio (OR), 2.25; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.48-3.42; p
Conclusion: Our study revealed that some gut microbiota are risk factors for inflammatory skin diseases, providing new information on potential therapeutic targets. Additionally, a possible association with the gut-skin axis was confirmed. Further research is required to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these relationships.

Abstract Heavy metal pollutants such as Hg, As, Pb, Cr, and Cd emitted from coal and waste combustion have received widespread attention. In this study, we systematically investigated the emission characteristics of heavy metals in waste incineration and coal-fired flue gases, focused on testing the removal effect of self-made cold electrode electrostatic precipitator (CE-ESP) on heavy metals in flue gas, and made a comparative analysis with the existing air pollution control devices (APCDs). Test results from waste incineration power plant showed that each APCD showed a certain effect on the removal of heavy metals in condensable particulate matter (CPM), with an average removal efficiency of bag filter was 86%, but its effect on Hg removal was slightly worse. Under the coupled field with electrified cold electrode plate operation mode, the average removal efficiency of CE-ESP on heavy metals in CPM was as high as 93%, including 76% for Hg. The removal efficiency of heavy metals (especially Hg) in CPM increased with the increase of flue gas temperature difference between inlet and outlet of CE-ESP. Test results from this coal-fired power plant showed that heavy metals were enriched in fly ash to a higher degree than in slag, the synergistic control of heavy metals in submicron particulate matter by the dust remover was not obvious, and there was a significant correlation between each heavy metal emission factor and its content in coal. Under the temperature field with non-electric cold electrode plate operation mode, the overall effect of CE-ESP on the removal of gaseous heavy metals was better than that of particulate heavy metals. Under the conventional electric field operation mode, CE-ESP was less effective in removing particulate Cr and gaseous Hg
