    Abstract Objective: The Kahramanmaraş earthquakes struck the north-eastern part of Türkiye and Syria on February 6, 2023. It is well known that timely coordination and provision of emergency medical care in the field is particularly important to save lives after earthquakes. This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by medical responders on the ground.
    Methods: This exploratory-descriptive qualitative study was conducted in Hatay, the province most affected by the earthquakes. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and field observations, and then analyzed using thematic analysis approach.
    Results: The study was carried out with 15 first responders from the medical profession. The study revealed 9 themes of challenges faced by medical responders: providing safety and security, human resources management, meeting personal needs, recording data, communication, patient transport, burial procedures, psychological acumen, and logistical problems. Some problems were resolved after 72 h and some continued until day 7.
    Conclusions: Inadequate organization of volunteer health workers, communication breakdowns, and logistical problems are some of the main challenges. To address these issues, satellite phones and radio systems can be promoted, as well as disaster-resilient logistical planning and better coordination of volunteers.

    Abstract The powdered citrus peel, which has been replaced with sodium hydroxide, was used in this study to test how well methylene blue and reactive black 5 dyestuff absorbed one or both. To find out about the texture and surface chemistry of modified citrus peel, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope analyses were carried out. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy data revealed the presence of amphoteric radicals on the modified citrus peel surface, indicating the effective adsorption of methylene blue and reactive black 5. Many parameters affecting the batch adsorption process, such as modified citrus peel dose (0.1-0.5 g), pH (2-10), time (20-80 min), stirring speed (60-180 rpm), and temperature (20-45 °C), were studied. It is seen that the physical effect is at the forefront, homogeneous monolayer adsorption occurs, and the process fits the Langmuir and pseudo first order models for dyestuffs. Thermodynamic modeling showed that the adsorption of methylene blue and reactive black 5 was spontaneous and endothermic. At pH 2, an adsorption capacity of 0.67 mg/g and a removal efficiency of 66.86% were achieved for reactive black 5. For methylene blue at pH 6, the adsorption capacity was 4.34 mg/g, and the decolorization rate was 87%. The decreases in the removal rates of dyestuffs in the binary system indicate that they are affected by their simultaneous presence in the solution. The results proved that modified citrus peel can be useful for dyestuff removal in single or binary systems, although the removal capacity of modified citrus peel is highly dependent on methylene blue and reactive black 5.

    Abstract This study developed a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based psychoeducation practice aimed at reducing obsessive-compulsive symptom levels in adolescents in Turkey and tested its effectiveness with a mixed-methods study. After the study was constructed as a pretest-posttest control group experimental application consisting of qualitative stages. The experimental application of the study was carried out with high school students in Turkey. In the sampling process, the schools, where the study will be carried out, were determined with the cluster sampling method. The experimental and control groups were formed with 30 students with high obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms from these schools, and the developed CBT-based psychoeducation practice was applied to the experimental group for 12 weeks.     Abstract Since the beginning of humanity, many sectors have produced different chemicals. These chemicals are the main causes of environmental pollution and have become a global problem with irreversible effects in terms of health. Because of this, countries have set a target of “a pollution-free planet”. We need to determine target-specific strategies to both eliminate pollution and protect health. To date, traditional methods of monitoring in receiving aquatic environments have been used; however, they do not provide information on toxic levels of pollutants. For this reason, researchers have focused on “bio-indicator” or “bio-monitor” organisms. Since these organisms are in equilibrium with the aquatic environment, they can also be considered an integrated sampling tool and may indicate potential contamination. Danio rerio (zebrafish) is considered a promising model organism for single health studies in terms of its biological structure. This review aims to present Danio rerio ’s characteristics, susceptibility to environmental pollutants, and risks associated with pollutants in the aquatic environment.

    Abstract Objectives: This study aims to compare ankle force, mobility, flexibility, and plantar pressure distribution of athletes according to foot posture index (FPI).
    Patients and methods: Between September 2016 and May 2018, a total of 70 volunteer male athletes (mean age: 21.1±2.3 years; range, 18 to 25 years) were included. The athletes were divided into three groups according to their FPI as follows: having supinated feet (Group 1, n=16), neutral/normal feet (Group 2, n=36), or pronated feet (Group 3, n=18). Ankle range of motion (ROM), muscle flexibility, ankle joint strength, and plantar pressure distribution were measured.
    Results: There were significant differences among the three groups in both right and left ankle dorsiflexion ROM (p=0.009 and p=0.003, respectively). Group 1 had significantly smaller dorsiflexion ROM than the other groups. Group 1 also showed significantly less flexibility in the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles than the other foot posture groups. Groups 2 and 3 exhibited significant differences in the maximum torque (p=0.018), maximum work (p=0.008), and total work (p=0.008) of the right plantar flexor muscles at 60°/sec angular velocity. Peak pressure measurements of the right foot were higher in Group 1, compared to Groups 2 and 3 (p<0.001).
    Conclusion: The results of this study may help to enhance athletic performance by providing a guide for designing training programs appropriate for athletes with different foot types to address their specific muscle flexibility and strength deficiencies.

    Abstract Introduction: The shoulder girdle comprises the scapula, clavicle, proximal humerus, and the soft tissues surrounding these structures. Bone and soft tissue tumors are notably more prevalent in the lower extremity than in the upper extremity. However, the shoulder ranks as the third most common site for primary tumors, following the hip-pelvis and knee.
    Materials and methods: This study conducted a retrospective examination of patients who presented with pain and swelling in the shoulder and its vicinity. The evaluation was carried out using a multidisciplinary approach by the Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors Council.
    Results: The study included 224 patients diagnosed with a tumoral lesion in the shoulder girdle between 2004 and 2021. Among these patients, 22 were assessed to have lesions other than tumors, while 105 (51.98%) had benign lesions, and 97 had malignant lesions. The most prevalent benign lesions were cystic bone lesions (30) and soft tissue lipomas (10). The primary form of malignant lesion was metastatic tumors (49).
    Conclusion: Pathologies in the shoulder girdle may manifest through pain, palpable swelling, pathological fractures, or may be incidentally detected via radiological imaging. Notably, pain, hypercalcemia, and pathological fractures are significant indicators, especially in cases of bone metastases, which often follow a highly fatal course when involving long bones. The musculoskeletal system is the third most common site for metastasis, following the lungs and liver. Hence, particular attention should be directed toward metastatic concerns in the shoulder and its surrounding area.

    Abstract The goal of this study was to compare the T-cadherin, E-cadherin, progesterone receptor (PR), and estrogen receptor (ER) staining levels of deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) tissue, ovarian endometriomas and normal endometrial tissues in the same individuals. The tissue sections of both DIE nodule(s) and endometrioma(s) of 15 cases were examined. As a control group, normal endometrial tissue sections of 23 cases were examined. T-cadherin, E-cadherin, ER-α, and PR-A staining levels of DIE, endometrioma tissues, and endometrial tissues were compared immunohistochemically. H -score was calculated to compare the expression of T-cadherin, E-cadherin, ER-α, and PR-A in immunohistochemical staining based on the percentage of cells stained at each intensity level. T-cadherin, E-cadherin, ER, and PR H -score were lowest in DIE tissue and highest in endometrial tissue ( P <0.0001, <0.0001, <0.0001, and <0.0001, respectively). In correlation analysis, a positive correlation was found between T-cadherin, E-cadherin, PR, and ER H -score ( P <0.0001 for each). T-cadherin, E-cadherin, ER, and PR H -score were lowest in DIE tissue and highest in endometrium tissue. We think that examination of DIE tissue and endometrioma tissue from the same individual excludes the possibility of an effect due to different genetic and environmental factors from different individuals. With the help of this exclusion we showed that DIE and endometrioma have different biological properties.
