    Abstract Plasmonic nanostructures exhibiting dynamically tunable chiroptical responses hold great promise for broad applications such as sensing, catalysis, and enantioselective analysis. Despite the successful fabrication of chiral structures through diverse templates, creating dynamic chiroptical materials with fast and reversible responses to external stimuli is still challenging. This work showcases reversible magnetic assembly and active tuning of plasmonic chiral superstructures by introducing a chiral magnetic field from a cubic permanent magnet. Manipulating the strength and direction of the magnetic field controls both the chiral arrangement and plasmonic coupling of the nanoparticle assembly, enabling fast and reversible tunability in not only the handedness of the superstructures but also the spectral characteristics of their chiroptical properties. The dynamic tunability further enables the fabrication of color-changing optical devices based on the optical rotatory dispersion effect, showcasing their potential for application in anti-counterfeiting and stress sensors.

    Abstract Ischemia or hypoxia can lead to pathological changes in the metabolism and function of tissues and then lead to various diseases. Timely and effective blood resuscitation or improvement of hypoxia is very important for the treatment of diseases. However, there is a need to develop stable, nontoxic, and immunologically inert oxygen carriers due to limitations such as blood shortages, different blood types, and the risk of transmitting infections. With the development of various technologies, oxygen carriers based on hemoglobin and perfluorocarbon have been widely studied in recent years. This paper reviews the development and application of hemoglobin and perfluorocarbon oxygen carriers. The design of oxygen carriers was analyzed, and their application as blood substitutes or oxygen carriers in various hypoxic diseases was discussed. Finally, the characteristics and future research of ideal oxygen carriers were prospected to provide reference for follow-up research.

    Abstract Employing a plasmonic decoupling mechanism, we report the design of a colorimetric pressure sensor that can respond to applied pressure with instant color changes. The sensor consists of a thin film of stacked uniform resorcinol-formaldehyde nanoshells with their inner surfaces functionalized with silver nanoparticles. Upon compression, the flexible polymer nanoshells expand laterally, inducing plasmonic decoupling between neighboring silver nanoparticles and a subsequent blue-shift. The initial color of the sensor is determined by the extent of plasmonic coupling, which can be controlled by tuning the interparticle distance through a seeded growth process. The sensing range can be conveniently customized by controlling the polymer shell thickness or incorporating hybrid nanoshells into various polymer matrices. The new colorimetric pressure sensors are easy to fabricate and highly versatile, allow for convenient tuning of the sensing range, and feature significant color shifts, holding great promise for a wide range of practical applications.

    Abstract Objective: The aim of this population-based retrospective study was to compare the osteogenic effect of newly formed bone after maxillary sinus floor elevation (MSFE) and simultaneous implantation with or without bone grafts by quantitatively analyzing trabecular bone parameters.
    Methodology: A total of 100 patients with missing posterior maxillary teeth who required MSFE and implantation were included in this study. Patients were divided into two groups: the non-graft group (n=50) and the graft group (n=50). Radiographic parameters were measured using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and the quality of newly formed bone was analyzed by assessing trabecular bone parameters using CTAn (CTAnalyzer, SkyScan, Antwerp, Belgium) software.
    Results: In the selected regions of interest, the non-graft group showed greater bone volume/total volume (BV/TV), bone surface/total volume (BS/TV), trabecular number (Tb. N), and trabecular thickness (Tb. Th) than the graft group (p<0.001). The non-graft group showed lower trabecular separation (Tb. Sp) than the graft group (p<0.001). The incidence of perforation and bleeding was higher in the graft group than in the non-graft group (p<0.001), but infection did not significantly differ between groups (p>0.05). Compared to the graft group, the non-graft group showed lower postoperative bone height, gained bone height and apical bone height (p<0.001).
    Conclusion: MSFE with and without bone grafts can significantly improve bone formation. In MSFE, the use of bone grafts hinders the formation of good quality bone, whereas the absence of bone grafts can generate good bone quality and limited bone mass.

    Abstract Lymph nodes targeted drug delivery is an attractive approach to improve cancer immunotherapy outcomes. Currently, the depth of understanding of afferent and efferent arms in brain immunity reveals the potential clinical applications of lymph node targeted drug delivery in brain tumors, e.g., glioblastoma. In this work, we systematically reviewed the microenvironment of glioblastoma and its structure as a basis for potential immunotherapy, including the glial-lymphatic pathway for substance exchange, the lymphatic drainage pathway from meningeal lymphatic vessels to deep cervical lymph nodes that communicate intra- and extracranial immunity, and the interaction between the blood-brain barrier and effector T cells. Furthermore, the carriers designed for lymph nodes targeted drug delivery were comprehensively summarized. The challenges and opportunities in developing a lymph nodes targeted delivery strategy for glioblastoma using nanotechnology are included at the end.

    Abstract Exosomes are phospholipid bilayer vesicles secreted by living cells that can carry a variety of signaling molecules, such as RNA, DNA, protein, and lipids. Exosomes play a role in the transmission of signaling molecules between cells, thus regulating many physiological and pathological processes. The methods of extracting exosomes include differential centrifugation, density gradient centrifugation, exclusion chromatography, ultrafiltration, coprecipitation, polymer immune affinity, microfluidic separation technology, etc. Each of these extraction technologies has advantages and disadvantages; however, there is no unified international standard. In addition, the expression of specific proteins and genetic material of exosomes from different cell sources are different; thus, their expression characteristics and functions are also distinctive. Based on this situation, research on exosomes is limited to preclinical studies, and difficulties and challenges still exist in clinical application. This paper summarizes the progress of research in the field of exosomes, to understand the characteristics, modification and application of exosomes from different cell sources, and to summarize their advantages and disadvantages as well as challenges, which can help researchers better understand and master the performance of exosomes. Furthermore, improvement of standard procedures in the extraction and manufacturing of exosomes is important, as it will provide a reference for researchers to carry out exosome-related translational clinical research.

    Abstract Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia, characterized by a progressive cognitive decline. Sporadic AD, accounting for more than 95% of cases, may arise due to the influence of environmental factors. It was reported that periodontitis, a common oral ailment, shares several risk factors with AD, including advanced age, smoking, diabetes, and hypertension, among others. Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease triggered by dysbiosis of oral microorganisms, whereas Alzheimer's disease is characterized by neuroinflammation. Many studies have indicated that chronic inflammation can instigate brain AD-related pathologies, including amyloid-β plaques, Tau protein hyperphosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration. The potential involvement of periodontal pathogens and/or their virulence factors in the onset and progression of AD by the oral-brain axis has garnered significant attention among researchers with ongoing investigations. This review has updated the periodontal pathogens potentially associated with AD, elucidating their impact on the central nervous system, immune response, and related pathological processes in the brain to provide valuable insights for future research on the oral-brain axis.
