    Abstract The results of the experiments indicate that the prostatic hyperplasia caused by Testosteroni Propionatis in mice, cotton oil-induced local swollen ears of mice and the proliferation of granuloma produced by subcutaneous implantation of cotton pill in rats are inhibited significantly by the preparation of Xiao Long Ling. Xiao Long Ling depresses the increase of vascular permeability induced by a variety of inflammatory media such as histamine, 5-HT and PGE. Xiao Long Ling is found capable of inhibiting the platelet aggregation induced by ADP as well as depolymerizing the aggregated platelets.

    Abstract Objective: Preoperative frailty and surgical waiting times are associated with the occurrence of adverse outcomes in patients with hip fractures. Specifically, we aimed to investigate the influence of frailty status and surgical timing on the risk of serious adverse events during hospitalization.
    Methods: This study utilized an observational single cohort design and included patients aged ≥60 years with a primary diagnosis of hip fracture. Frailty was assessed using the chart-derived frailty index (CFI), which was calculated based on demographic and routine laboratory variables. The primary outcome of interest was the occurrence of in-hospital serious adverse events. A multivariate logistic regression model was utilized to examine the risk factors influencing outcomes.
    Results: The study included 427 participants, with a mean age of 80.28 ± 8.13 years and 64.2% of whom were female. Patients with high CFI have more comorbidities (
    Conclusions: Frailty serves as a reliable predictor of the probability of encountering severe adverse events while hospitalized for elderly individuals with hip fractures. This method has the potential to pinpoint particular modifiable factors that necessitate intervention, whereas the impact of surgical timing remains uncertain and necessitates additional research.

    Abstract Undifferentiated epithelioid sarcoma (USEF) is a rare subtype of undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma that presents unique challenges in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Here, we report a case of USEF occurring in the pleura of a 51-year-old man for the first time. Thoracoscopic examination revealed widespread nodular changes, and pathological analysis confirmed the presence of numerous epithelioid atypical cells. Immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis demonstrated an undifferentiated phenotype with distinct characteristics: epithelial membrane antigen (foci +), vimentin (+), Ki-67 (+70% +), TTF-1 (+), P53 (mutant type +90%), INI-1 (+), and CK5/6 (small foci +). Immunohistochemical examination of the tumor showed that the tumor was an undifferentiated epithelioid sarcoma.     Abstract Introduction: Chlamydia psittaci
    Methods: Sixteen patients with severe psittacosis pneumonia with ARDS were selected between September 2021 and October 2022. They were diagnosed using mNGS and treated with omadacycline. Retrospective analysis of clinical manifestations, laboratory data, disease progression, diagnostic tool, treatment, and prognosis was summarized.
    Results: Common symptoms included fever, dyspnea, and cough. All patients developed ARDS, accompanied by septic shock (43.7%) and pulmonary embolism (43.7%). Laboratory data showed normal leucocytes, increased creatine kinase isoenzyme, and decreased albumin with liver dysfunction in most patients. All patients had increased neutrophils, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, and D-dimer with decreased lymphocytes. Airspace consolidation, ground glass opacity, and pleural effusion were found on chest CT. mNGS results were obtained in 24-48 h to identify the diagnosis of Chlamydia psittacosis. All patients received mechanical ventilation with omadacycline treatment. Fourteen patients experienced complete recovery, while the other two patients died from multidrug-resistant bacterial infection and renal failure.
    Conclusion: mNGS has a significant value in the diagnosis of

    Abstract Polysaccharides exhibit multiple pharmacological activities, which are closely related to their structural characteristics. Therefore, quantitative quality control of polysaccharides based on chemical properties is of importance for their applications. However, polysaccharides are mixed macromolecular compounds that are difficult to separate, and the lack of standards made direct quantification more difficult. In this study, we proposed a new quantitative method based on the released specific oligosaccharides for polysaccharides from Lentinus edodes (shiitake) and other related fungi. Specific oligosaccharides were firstly released from polysaccharides using 1,3-β-glucanase, then derivatized with 2-aminobenzamide (2-AB), which further separated by hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) and quantitatively determined by UPLC coupled with fluorescence detector (FLR). Laminaritriose was used as the universal standard for quantification of all the oligosaccharides. This method was validated according to linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, precision, accuracy, repeatability and stability. In addition, the four specific oligosaccharides released from polysaccharides in L. edodes were qualitatively analyzed by extracted ion chromatogram (EIC) from UPLC-MS profiles, which were identified to be disaccharide, trisaccharide and tetrasccharide. The proposed strategy not only realized the quantitative analysis of polysaccharides by UPLC-FLR, but also could achieve the qualitative distinction of different polysaccharides.

    Abstract Chx10-expressing V2a (Chx10+V2a) spinal interneurons play a large role in the excitatory drive of motoneurons. Chemogenetic ablation studies have demonstrated the essential nature of Chx10+V2a interneurons in the regulation of locomotor initiation, maintenance, alternation, speed, and rhythmicity. The role of Chx10+V2a interneurons in locomotion and autonomic nervous system regulation is thought to be robust, but their precise role in spinal motor regulation and spinal cord injury have not been fully explored. The present paper reviews the origin, characteristics, and functional roles of Chx10+V2a interneurons with an emphasis on their involvement in the pathogenesis of spinal cord injury. The diverse functional properties of these cells have only been substantiated by and are due in large part to their integration in a variety of diverse spinal circuits. Chx10+V2a interneurons play an integral role in conferring locomotion, which integrates various corticospinal, mechanosensory, and interneuron pathways. Moreover, accumulating evidence suggests that Chx10+V2a interneurons also play an important role in rhythmic patterning maintenance, left-right alternation of central pattern generation, and locomotor pattern generation in higher order mammals, likely conferring complex locomotion. Consequently, the latest research has focused on postinjury transplantation and noninvasive stimulation of Chx10+V2a interneurons as a therapeutic strategy, particularly in spinal cord injury. Finally, we review the latest preclinical study advances in laboratory derivation and stimulation/transplantation of these cells as a strategy for the treatment of spinal cord injury. The evidence supports that the Chx10+V2a interneurons act as a new therapeutic target for spinal cord injury. Future optimization strategies should focus on the viability, maturity, and functional integration of Chx10+V2a interneurons transplanted in spinal cord injury foci.

    Abstract Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic interstitial lung disease whose pathogenesis involves a complex interaction of cell types and signaling pathways. Lung epithelial cells responding to repeated injury experience persistent inflammation and sustained epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The persistence of EMT-induced signals generates extracellular matrix accumulation, thereby causing fibrosis. Ferroptosis is a newly characterized iron-dependent non-apoptotic regulated cell death. Increased iron accumulation can increase iron-induced oxidant damage in alveolar epithelial cells. Studies have demonstrated that iron steady states and oxidation steady states play an important role in the iron death regulation of EMT. This review summarizes the role of ferroptosis in regulating EMT in pulmonary fibrosis, aiming to provide a new idea for the prevention and treatment of this disease.

    Abstract Multilayer hydrogels are widely used in biomedical-related fields due to their complex and variable spatial structures. Various strategies have been developed for preparing multilayer hydrogels, among which electrically induced self-assembly provides a simple and effective method for multilayer hydrogel fabrication. By application of an oscillatory electrical signal sequence, multilayer hydrogels with distinct boundaries can be formed according to the provided programmable signals. In this work, we establish an electrical field in microfluidics combined with polarized light microscopy for in situ visualization of anisotropic construction of multilayer chitosan hydrogel. The noninvasive, real-time birefringence images allow us to monitor the orientation within the hydrogel in response to electrical signals. An increased birefringence was observed from the solution-gel side to the electrode surface side, and a brief electrical signal interruption did not affect the anisotropic assembly process. This understanding of the oscillatory electrical signal-induced hydrogel anisotropy assembly allows us to fabricate chitosan hydrogels with a complex and spatially varying structure.

    Abstract Introduction: Orthopaedic trauma patients are at high risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). As VTE prophylaxis has gradually raised public concerns, guidelines related to this topic have increased over time. However, the existing recommendations of thromboprophylaxis guidelines in orthopaedic trauma patients are still inconsistent, and the quality of the guidelines and recommendations for the topic still lacks comprehensive assessments. This review aims to critically appraise clinical practice guidelines for thromboprophylaxis in orthopaedic trauma patients.
    Methods and analysis: We will conduct a comprehensive literature search up to 31 October 2022 in databases (PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, etc), academic websites and guideline repositories. The quality of the guidelines and recommendations will be assessed by five reviewers independently using the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation II instrument (AGREE-II) and the AGREE - Recommendation EXcellence (AGREE-REX). We will summarise the characteristics of the guidelines and compare the differences between these recommendations.
    Ethics and dissemination: This study will follow the Declaration of Helsinki and has received approval from the Ethics Committee on Biomedical Research, West China Hospital, Sichuan University (ethics approval no. 2021-989). The results will be summarised as a paper, disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, and will help guide further research in the future.
