Abstract In this study, an insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) certified reference material (CRM) was developed by the National Institute of Metrology (NIM), and two different principles for evaluating the IGF-1 CRM were established. After optimisation of the acid hydrolysis conditions (110 °C, 36 h), quantitative determination of peptide purity, and chromatographic separation and mass spectrometric detection, amino acid analysis-based high-performance liquid chromatography combined with isotope-dilution tandem mass spectrometry (AAA-HPLC-IDMS/MS) and peptide analysis-based HPLC-IDMS/MS (Peptide-HPLC-IDMS/MS) were used for certified value assignment; the results obtained were 136.28 and 135.01 μg/g, respectively, which were in good agreement. These results were subjected to the normal distribution test, outlier test, and method consistency test. The homogeneity and stability of the reference materials were also examined, and the uncertainty introduced in the experimental process was calculated. The final certified value was (136 ± 15) μg g

Abstract CH4 oxidation to high value chemicals under mild conditions through photocatalysis confronts critical issues regarding both conversion and selectivity. Here, atomic Pd and oxygen vacancies were integrated on In2O3 nanorods, leading to visible-driven CH4 conversion with a remarkable yield of oxygenates and high selectivity of primary products.

Abstract The high cost, potential toxicity, and possible enzyme inhibition ability of artificial mediators have limited the large-scale application of laccase (Lac)/mediator systems. Here, sinapic acid (SA), a natural mediator, was covalently attached to amino-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) via amide bond formation. The as-prepared SA@MNPs were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. The SA@MNPs were then applied to evaluate the activity of the immobilized mediator for Lac-catalyzed dye decolorization using indigo carmine (IC) as a model dye. When SA and SA@MNPs were used as Lac mediators, IC decolorization yields of ∼93% and 96%, respectively, were obtained after 60 min. Moreover, SA@MNPs exhibited an IC decolorization yield of ∼90% after being reused for 8 cycles. The Lac/SA@MNP system was shown to degrade IC by breaking down the chromophoric group. The easy recyclability, good reusability, nontoxicity, and relatively low cost of SA@MNPs make this immobilized natural mediator a promising tool for dye treatment.

Abstract Direct and efficient oxidation of methane to methanol and the related liquid oxygenates provides a promising pathway for sustainable chemical industry, while still remaining an ongoing challenge owing to the dilemma between methane activation and overoxidation. Here, ZnO with highly dispersed dual Au and Cu species as cocatalysts enables efficient and selective photocatalytic conversion of methane to methanol and one-carbon (C1) oxygenates using O₂ as the oxidant operated at ambient temperature. The optimized AuCu–ZnO photocatalyst achieves up to 11225 μmol·g–¹·h–¹ of primary products (CH₃OH and CH₃OOH) and HCHO with a nearly 100% selectivity, resulting in a 14.1% apparent quantum yield at 365 nm, much higher than the previous best photocatalysts reported for methane conversion to oxygenates. In situ EPR and XPS disclose that Cu species serve as photoinduced electron mediators to promote O₂ activation to •OOH, and simultaneously that Au is an efficient hole acceptor to enhance H₂O oxidation to •OH, thus synergistically promoting charge separation and methane transformation. This work highlights the significances of co-modification with suitable dual cocatalysts on simultaneous regulation of activity and selectivity.

Abstract Cysteine (Cys) as a vital antioxidant molecule and an effective biomarker for illness, plays an essential role in physiological functions and pathological processes. Extensive work has been done to explore the physiological functions of Cys and develop probes for detection of biothiols. However, the challenge to differentiate Cys from glutathione and homocystine remains. In this work, we constructed a novel near-infrared (NIR) probe, termed TMN-Cys, using TMN-NH₂ and thionoesters. The probe could selectively detect Cys over homocysteine and glutathione in solution. It displayed a large Stokes shift (210 nm) upon treatment with Cys, and its detection limit was as low as 79 nM. Moreover, this probe showed low toxicity and was successfully employed in monitoring endogenous Cys in living cells and mice.

Abstract The ubiquitous presence of ochratoxin A (OTA), a toxic food contaminant, requires development of fast and sensitive detection tools. However, it is difficult to find a method that can address high sensitivity and wide detection range simultaneously. In this work, a sensing platform composed of praseodymia nanorods (Pr₆O₁₁-NRs) and aptamers for OTA is established. Under the dual-readout modes, this platform provides a highly sensitive detection of OTA with extra-wide range, over three orders of magnitude with limit of detection (LOD) of 0.8 ng/mL. Both fluorometric and colorimetric signals were obtained because of the excellent fluorescent quenching and oxidase-like activity of Pr₆O₁₁-NRs. This probe enables a detection range of OTA which covers the maximum acceptable levels of most foods. Real samples were tested with this method, demonstrating high sensitivity and good recoveries. This sensing strategy has great potential for an expanded application in point-of-care detection of other toxins via portable devices.
