Abstract Renal angiomyolipomas, common benign tumors, can exhibit slow growth in sporadic cases or have aggressive tendencies when linked to genetic conditions like tuberous sclerosis. This case report focuses on the exceptionally rare angiomyolipoma with epithelial cysts (AMLEC) variant, particularly challenging to diagnose due to its scarcity. Describing a 41-year-old woman's case, initially suspected to be renal cell carcinoma during an infertility evaluation, subsequent partial nephrectomy revealed a tumor comprising smooth muscle, blood vessels, and fat, with cystic regions featuring cuboidal linings and a layer devoid of abnormal cell activity. Immunohistochemistry confirmed specific markers within different tumor components, highlighting the diagnostic complexities of AMLEC and emphasizing the crucial role of histopathological examinations in accurate characterizations.

Abstract Purpose: To study the role of Toxoplasma IgG avidity in evaluating the stage of systemic infection during manifestation as toxoplasma retinochoroiditis and its clinical implications in eastern India.
Methods: Retrospective chart review of Toxoplasma retinochoroiditis cases with Toxoplasma serology for IgG, IgM, and IgG avidity.
Results: Included in this study were 17 eyes of 17 patients who had active retinitis located in the macula (14), mid-periphery (2), or periphery (1). They were either primary lesions (12) or reactivations (5). All the cases had Toxoplasma IgG positive; one case had IgM positivity, while all the cases had high IgG avidity values. IgG avidity had a positive correlation with the duration of symptoms.
Conclusion: We observed high IgG avidity values in active retinochoroiditis in both primary ocular Toxoplasmosis and reactivation subgroups. These results indicate a late ocular manifestation after initial systemic infection with a possible incubation period ranging from 5 weeks to 5 months.

Abstract Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are evolving as a cause of mortality and morbidity among young adults. Young adults, particularly those pursuing professional courses in colleges, face unique challenges that may influence their risk of developing CVD. Despite screening guidelines, CVD risk factors often go undetected in the young population, highlighting the need for increased awareness among adolescents. Sleep is an essential indicator of well-being, and its impact on cardiovascular risk factors is increasingly being recognized. An observational cross-sectional study was conducted among young adults aged 18 to 24 years pursuing professional courses in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. A total of 156 participants were recruited through multistage, systematic random sampling, and snowball sampling. Data on sleep patterns and cardiovascular morbidity were collected using a pretested questionnaire. Among the study participants, 46.8% reported having less than four hours of sleep on average, and 25% were suffering from sleep problems. The prevalence of diagnosed CVDs was low, with 6.14% reporting arrhythmias and 3.84% reporting hypertension. An association was found between sleep duration, sleep problems, and the presence of CVDs. Participants with shorter sleep durations and more severe sleep problems had a higher prevalence of CVDs. The findings suggest that sleep duration and sleep problems may be modifiable risk factors for CVDs among young adults. Effective health promotion activities focusing on behavior and lifestyle modifications are essential to preventing CVDs from an early age. The study emphasizes the importance of early intervention and health promotion strategies to reduce CVD risk factors in this population. Community-based research and behavior change communication initiatives are recommended to promote healthy sleep habits and prevent cardiovascular diseases among young adults beyond the college setting.

Abstract Background: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a persistent oral mucosal condition that carries an elevated risk of undergoing malignant transformation. Our objective was to elucidate the involvement of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in OSF and its progression to malignancy by studying a panel of EMT markers, thereby understanding the molecular mechanisms.
Methods: An immunohistochemical analysis was done to detect the presence of E-cadherin, N-cadherin, pan-cytokeratin (PanCK), vimentin, α-SMA (alpha-smooth muscle actin), and CD44 in a total of 100 tissue samples. These samples comprised 40 cases of OSF, 20 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma associated with OSF (OSFSCC), and 40 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). A whole transcriptomic analysis was performed on a group of seven matched samples encompassing NOM, OSF, OSFSCC, and OSCC.
Results: We observed significantly decreased expression of E-cadherin and PanCK, while N-cadherin, vimentin, α-SMA, and CD44 showed significantly higher expression in OSFSCC and OSCC as compared to OSF, both at protein and RNA levels. CD44 expression was noticeably higher in OSFSCC (p < 0.001) than in OSCC.
Conclusion: Downregulation of epithelial markers with concomitant upregulation of mesenchymal and stem cell markers suggests the potential role of EMT and stemness in accelerating the pathogenesis and malignant transformation of OSF. The high levels of CD44 expression seen in OSFSCC indicate a high propensity for aggressiveness and acquisition of stem-like characteristics by the cells undergoing EMT.
