Abstract Objectives: This study evaluated the long-term outcomes of intraoperative recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) reinnervation for managing thyroidectomy-related unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) over a period of 10 years and assessed the long-term efficacy of this technique.
Methods: This study was conducted between March 2006 and July 2022 at Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital. We enrolled 25 patients who underwent RLN reinnervation via direct neurorrhaphy or ansa cervicalis-to-RLN anastomosis and completed subjective and objective voice measurements over 5 years period. Among these, 10 patients completed voice measurements over 10 years period.
Results: Six months post-RLN reinnervation, most subjective voice parameters and some of objective voice parameters showed significant improvement (p < 0.05). Twelve months after the procedure, most parameters demonstrated significant voice improvements. These improvements remained stable in follow-up examinations 10 years post-RLN reinnervation (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: With stable voice outcomes over a decade, primary intraoperative RLN reinnervation provides satisfactory voice outcomes for 10 years postoperatively. Concerning the long-term survival of thyroid cancer patients, primary intraoperative RLN reinnervation is the first recommended voice rehabilitation technique for thyroidectomy related permanent UVFP.

Abstract Background: The Web is an important source of health information, but the quality of such online information is highly variable. This study evaluates the quality of health articles published on Naver News, Korea's most popular portal, using the Health Information Quality Assessment Tool (HIQUAL).
Methods: We collected 712 health-related articles published on Naver News from May 1 to 7, 2023. After applying exclusion criteria, we selected 116 articles for analysis. Two clinicians independently assessed the quality of these articles using the HIQUAL, which scores articles based on five domains: "reliability," "usefulness," "understandability," "sufficiency," and "transparency."
Results: Overall article quality was generally considered recommendable (mean±standard deviation: 7.52±2.00). "Usefulness," one item of "reliability," and "understandability" were the three items with the highest levels of satisfaction. "Sufficiency" criteria for costs, risks, and benefits received low scores. Quality scores for articles focused on health risk factors and intervention showed a statistically significant difference.
Conclusion: While the overall quality of health information in Korean online newspaper articles is acceptable, room for improvement remains in some areas, particularly with regard to the fair presentation of costs, risks, and benefits. The study highlights the need for ongoing quality improvement and evaluation initiatives for online health information.

Abstract We propose a switchable privacy display with liquid crystals for co-driver displays (CDDs) in vehicles. The display minimizes driver distraction while allowing the co-driver to enjoy infotainment content. By combining electrically controllable birefringence (ECB) and hybrid-aligned nematic (HAN) cells, we control the viewing angle of the display. Our device achieves an operating angle of 30°, effectively blocking the driver's view while providing a wide viewing angle for the co-driver. It maintains excellent transmittance properties in privacy and public modes, with symmetric luminance characteristics. The versatility of the proposed display extends to various technologies like LCDs, OLEDs, and micro-LEDs. This switchable privacy display has the potential to enhance driver safety and infotainment experiences in vehicles.

Abstract Objective: The Acceptance and Action Questionnaire for Obsessions and Compulsions (AAQ-OC) is a version of the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQ) that specifically measures unwanted intrusive thoughts and responses (e.g., experiential avoidance) to them. This study aimed to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the AAQ-OC in clinical and nonclinical Korean samples.
Methods: In this study, 561 university students and 121 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) completed the AAQ-OC and several other psychological scales. Descriptive, correlation, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses as well as group comparisons were conducted.
Results: The results of the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses indicated a two-factor structure that best fits the data in the university sample: Factors 1 and 2 matched the original Valued Action and Willingness subscales, respectively. The reliability analyses revealed that the AAQ-OC and its factors had excellent internal consistencies. As regards the concurrent validity, the AAQ-OC and its factors had a positive correlation with the AAQ-II and Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire. Compared with the university students, the OCD patients had higher AAQ-OC scores, and their obsessive-compulsive symptoms, particularly the two symptom dimensions of responsibility for harm and mistakes and unacceptable thoughts, were significantly associated with the AAQ-OC and two subscales.
Conclusion: The findings of this study confirm the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the AAQ-OC.

Abstract Systemic sclerosis (SSc), a rare, chronic progressive systemic autoimmune disease of unknown etiology, is characterized by autoimmunity, tissue fibrosis, and obliterative vasculopathy. SSc can affect all major organs including the skin, blood vessels, lung, heart, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract. Our understanding of its pathogenesis has increased over the past few decades, leading to improved diagnosis and treatment. However, the mortality rate of SSc remains considerable, mainly due to cardiopulmonary causes. A growing body of evidence suggests that geographical, regional, and ethnic differences could affect the epidemiology, clinical characteristics and prognosis of SSc. Although Korean data of this issue are lacking, a considerable amount of research has been published by many Korean researchers. To establish treatment strategies for Korean patients, extensive Korean research data are needed. This review summarizes the prevalence, incidence, mortality, and clinical and laboratory manifestations of Korean patients with SSc and discusses the current trends in evidence-based treatment and recommendations.
