Abstract The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 that first emerged in Wuhan in December 2019 has resulted in the devastating pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019, creating an emerging need for knowledge sharing. Meanwhile, myocardial infarction is and will probably remain the foremost cause of death in the Western world throughout the coming decades. Severe deregulation of the immune system can unnecessarily expand the inflammatory response and participate in target and multiple organ failure, in infection but also in critical illness. Indeed, the course and fate of inflammatory cells observed in severe ST-elevation myocardial infarction (neutrophilia, monocytosis, and lymphopenia) almost perfectly mirror those recently reported in severe coronavirus disease 2019. A pleiotropic proinflammatory imbalance hampers adaptive immunity in favor of uncontrolled innate immunity and is associated with poorer structural and clinical outcomes. The goal of the present review is to gain greater insight into the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this canonical activation and downregulation of the two arms of the immune response in both entities, to better understand their pathophysiology and to open the door to innovative therapeutic options. Knowledge sharing can pave the way for therapies with the potential to significantly reduce mortality in both infectious and noninfectious scenarios.

Abstract The pollen tube is a key innovation of land plants that is essential for successful fertilisation. Its development and growth have been profusely studied in model organisms, but in spite of the economic impact of olive trees, little is known regarding the genome-wide events underlying pollen hydration and growth in this species. To fill this gap, triplicate mRNA samples at 0, 1, 3, and 6 h of in vitro germination of olive cultivar Picual pollen were analysed by RNA-seq. A bioinformatics R workflow called

Abstract Forensic genomic systems allow simultaneously analyzing identity informative (iiSNPs), ancestry informative (aiSNPs), and phenotype informative (piSNPs) genetic markers. Among these kits, the ForenSeq DNA Signature prep (Verogen) analyzes identity STRs and SNPs as well as 24 piSNPs from the HIrisPlex system to predict the hair and eye color. We report herein these 24 piSNPs in 88 samples from Monterrey City (Northeast, Mexico) based on the ForenSeq DNA Signature prep. Phenotypes were predicted by genotype results with both Universal Analysis Software (UAS) and the web tool of the Erasmus Medical Center (EMC). We observed predominantly brown eyes (96.5%) and black hair (75%) phenotypes, whereas blue eyes, and blond and red hair were not observed. Both UAS and EMC showed high performance in eye color prediction (

Abstract In 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed a new entity, Epstein Barr virus (EBV) + Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), not otherwise specified (NOS). Traces of EBV transcripts were described in lymphomas, including DLBCL, that were diagnosed as EBV negative by conventional methods. The aim of this study was to detect viral genome by qPCR, as well as LMP1 and EBNA2 transcripts, with a more sensitive method in DLBCL cases from Argentina. Fourteen cases originally considered as EBV negative expressed LMP1 and/or EBNA2 transcripts. In addition, LMP1 and/or EBNA2 transcripts were also observed in bystander cells. However, EBERs+ cells cases by conventional ISH showed higher numbers of cells with LMP1 transcripts and LMP1 protein. In the cases that were EBERS- in tumor cells but with expression of LMP1 and/or EBNA2 transcripts, the viral load was below the limit of detection. This study provides further evidence that EBV could be detected in tumor cells by more sensitive methods. However, higher expression of the most important oncogenic protein, LMP1, as well as increased viral load, are only observed in cases with EBERs+ cells by conventional ISH, suggesting that traces of EBV might not display a key role in DLBCL pathogenesis.

Abstract Proteins and peptides are minor components of vegetal oils. The presence of these compounds in virgin olive oil was first reported in 2001, but the nature of the olive oil proteome is still a puzzling question for food science researchers. In this paper, we have compiled for a first time a comprehensive proteomic dataset of olive fruit and fungal proteins that are present at low but measurable concentrations in a vegetable oil from a crop of great agronomical relevance as olive (Olea europaea L.). Accurate mass nLC-MS data were collected in high definition direct data analysis (HD-DDA) mode using the ion mobility separation step. Protein identification was performed using the Mascot Server v2.2.07 software (Matrix Science) against an ad hoc database made of olive protein entries. Starting from this proteomic record, the impact of these proteins on olive oil stability and quality could be tested. Moreover, the effect of olive oil proteins on human health and their potential use as functional food components could be also evaluated. In addition, this dataset provides a resource for use in further functional comparisons across other vegetable oils, and also expands the proteomic resources to non-model species, thus also allowing further comparative inter-species studies. The data presented here are related to the research article of Castro et al. [1].
