Abstract The combination of pretreatment and vacuum freeze-drying (VFD) technology is an effective technique for extending the shelf life of apricots, reducing costs and energy consumption. However, the impact of pretreatment on the freeze-drying and quality characteristics of apricots is still unclear. The effects of ultrasound (US), freeze-thaw (FT), and their combination (FT-US) on water migration and quality characteristics of apricot slices on VFD were studied. LR-NMR and SEM showed that pretreatment significantly reduced the time (19.05%-33.33%) and energy consumption (17.67%-35.66%) of the VFD process. Compared with the control group, the US, FT, and FT-US improved the color, texture, rehydration ability, and flavor of apricot slices. Among them, FT-US retained the most biologically active substances and antioxidant capacity, with the highest sensory score. Overall, FT-US pretreatment induced changes in the microstructure and chemistry of apricots, which contributed to the production of high-quality VFD apricot slices.

Abstract Abstract We investigate the tracking control problem for a non-strict feedback nonlinear system with external disturbance and time-varying asymmetric full state constraints. Firstly, the unknown nonlinear term with external disturbance in the system are estimated by fuzzy logic system. The backstepping method is applied to the design of adaptive fuzzy controller. However, to prevent that the constraints are overstepped by introducing an improved log-type time-varying asymmetric barrier Lyapunov function (TABLF) in each step of backstepping design. Secondly, the dynamic surface control (DSC) is introduced in the designed algorithm to solve the computational explosion problem of controller caused by the derivative of control law. The proposed control scheme can speed up the tracking speed of the system. Compared with the previous work, it is verified that the combination of DSC and TABLF can obtain good performance within the constraint range, and can ensure fast and stable tracking convergence under external disturbance. Finally, two simulation examples verify the performance of the adaptive controller.

Abstract Two-dimensional atomic layer materials, as an important part of the post-Moore era, have recently become an ideal choice for the preparation of high-efficiency, low-power, and miniaturized gas sensors. In this work, our study utilized density functional theory and the nonequilibrium Green's function method to investigate the electronic properties of the pentagonal BN

Abstract Messenger RNA (mRNA) based vaccines were instrumental in accelerating the end of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and are being aggressively developed as prophylaxes for a range of viral diseases. The swift adoption of mRNA-based therapeutics has also left open vast areas of opportunity for improving the development of mRNA-based drugs. One such area with immense potential focuses on the mRNA drug substance production, where mRNA is generated by a cell-free reaction called in vitro transcription (IVT). Process analytical technologies (PAT) are integral to the pharmaceutical industry and are necessary to facilitate agile process optimization and enhance process quality, control, and understanding. Due to the complexity and novelty inherent to the IVT reaction, there is a need for effective PAT that would provide in-depth, real-time insight into the reaction process to allow delivery of novel mRNA vaccines to patients faster in a more cost-effective way. Herein, we showcase the development of flow-nuclear magnetic resonance (flow-NMR) as a highly effective process-analytical tool for monitoring mRNA IVT reactions to support process development, optimization, and production.

Abstract Elastico-mechanoluminescence technology has shown significant application prospects in stress sensing, artificial skin, remote interaction, and other research areas. Its progress mainly lies in realizing stress visualization and 2D or even 3D stress-sensing effects using a passive sensing mode. However, the widespread promotion of mechanoluminescence (ML) technology is hindered by issues such as high stress or strain thresholds and a single sensing mode based on luminous intensity. In this study, a highly efficient green-emitting ML with dual-mode stress-sensing characteristics driven by microscale strain is developed using LiTaO

Abstract The exploration of Cerasus humilis (Bge.) Sok seed shells yielded the identification of six previously uncharacterized compounds, in addition to twelve known compounds. Structure elucidation of these compounds relied on spectroscopic data analysis, and their absolute configurations were established by comparing calculated and experimental electronic circular dichroic (ECD) spectra, supplemented by interpretation of optical rotation data. Notably, none of these compounds exhibited cytotoxicity against HepG2 and A549 cell lines. Remarkably, a majority of the compounds displayed potent antioxidant activity.
