Abstract Ionic liquids (ILs) are organic salts with a low melting point compared to inorganic salts. Room temperature ILs are of great importance for their widespread potential industrial applications. The viscosity of aqueous solutions of two imidazolium-based ILs, investigated in the present study, exhibits an anomalous temperature variation. Unlike conventional molecular fluids, the viscosity of 1-methyl-3-octyl imidazolium chloride [OMIM Cl] and 1-methyl-3-decyl imidazolium chloride [DMIM Cl] solutions is found to increase with temperature and then depress. The Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) data suggest that the lattice parameter of the body-centered cubic lattice formed by the spherical micelles of these ILs, and the morphology of the micelles remain intact over the measured temperature range. The molecular dynamics simulation shows the micelles to be more refined with their integrated structure on increasing the temperature. On further increase of the temperature, the structure is found to be loosened, which is corroborated by the simulation work. The ionic conductivity of these IL solutions shows a trend that is opposite to that of the viscosity. The observed anomalous nature of the viscosity is attributed to the trapped dissociated ions in the network of the micellar aggregates.

Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with multisystem involvement and most commonly affects women of childbearing age. Most of the patients, if not all, have positive antinuclear antibody (ANA) in their serum. ANA-negative SLE is extremely rare. Here, we present a case of a 15-year-old girl presenting with pancreatitis due to ANA-negative SLE.

Abstract Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of prostate is an unusual type of mesenchymal neoplasm that can elicit a benign or malignant phenotype. It represents a diagnostic challenge as it can simulate poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma and various mesenchymal neoplasms of prostate. We report a case of prostate SFT in a 54-year-old patient, which was clinically misdiagnosed as nodular hyperplasia of prostate with cystitis. However, on follow-up, he was not relieved by the designated treatment. Furthermore, he complained of exacerbation of symptoms and consequently, had to undergo open prostatectomy. Based on histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) assessment, a diagnosis of SFT of the prostate was rendered. Additionally, we have discussed the histological mimics of SFT and the diagnostic and prognostic importance of IHC while evaluating such lesions.

Abstract Exosomes are extracellular vesicles released by all cell types; perform several important functions such as cell-to-cell communication, growth, differentiation and so on. Exosomes elicit several signalling mechanisms as they carry information in the form of DNA, RNA or protein docked on them. We show that exosomes released from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb)-infected macrophages not only induce differentiation of naïve monocytes but also generate functionally active macrophages via MAPK-dependent signalling mechanism through MK-2 and NF-κβ activation which is completely different from the differentiation induced by exosomes from uninfected macrophages. Further, we elucidate unequivocally the signalling mechanism behind the enhanced release of exosome generation from infected macrophages driven by AKT phosphorylation involving Rab7a and Rab11a. Genes of both ESCRT-dependent and -independent pathways are found to be involved in enhanced exosomes release and are modulated by AKT. However, interestingly, the genes of the ESCRT-independent pathway are dependent on NF-κβ activation while the genes of the dependent pathway are not, suggesting two parallel signalling cascades operating in tandem.

Abstract Stenting of the arterial duct (PDA) has become a standard palliation for ductal-dependent pulmonary circulation. Carotid arterial access provides a direct route for stenting vertical ducts. We evaluated our early results of hybrid ductal stenting via surgical carotid cutdown.
Methods and results: In this retrospective single centre cohort study, hybrid PDA stenting was attempted in 11 patients with "flip technique", between January 2020 and February 2021, and was successful in 10. Median age was 29 days (interquartile range 17.5-87) and mean weight 3.37 ± 1.23 kg. Mean fluoroscopy time was 13.58 ± 5.35 minutes, mean procedure time was 48.50 ± 22.5 minutes, and mean radiation dose was 1719.5 ± 1217.6 mGycm
Conclusion: This study adds to the limited literature on ductal stenting with carotid access and the flip technique. In our early experience, the hybrid carotid approach is an attractive alternative to percutaneous carotid puncture and has simplified a complex and challenging intervention, with good outcomes.

Abstract Although photodynamic therapy is a promising approach for cancer treatment, it has limited clinical application due to the poor performance of conventional photosensitizers. In this study, we present a carbon nanoparticle-based photosensitizer for efficient photodynamic cell therapy. The nanoparticles have been synthesized from a steel industry-based waste material, exhibiting strong fluorescence in the visible region, rapidly entering the cell via non-endocytic uptake, and localizing within the mitochondria. Light exposure of nanoparticle-labeled cells offers efficient photodynamic therapy and induces cytotoxicity. Overall, this study highlights the utility of carbon nanoparticles in efficient photodynamic therapy via rapid cellular uptake and subcellular targeting.
