Abstract The lack of dwarf stock with good cold resistance has affected the production of apples in northern China. Annual dormant branches of ‘Tianhong 2’ apple were grafted on 10 different dwarf interstocks (the rootstocks were the seedlings of Malus hupehensis var. Pingyiensis) as test materials. Among these 10 interstocks, Huang 6, 244, NO.1, 53, 24-5, ZC9-3, Jizhen 1 were newly developed by us (Apple Research Group of Hebei Agricultural University), and three interstocks with different degrees of cold resistance (GM256–with strongest cold resistance, SH40–with stronger cold resistance, M9–with poor cold resistance) were used as controls. The semi-lethal temperature (LT50) and related physiological indexes of the branches in the overwintering process were studied. Based on the comprehensive physiological indexes, the effects of 10 interstocks on cold resistance of the ‘Tianhong 2’ apple were analyzed. The results showed that the effects of 10 kinds of interstocks on the cold resistance of ‘Tianhong 2’ apple were quite different. The order of effects on cold resistance from strong to weak was as follow: GM256 > Huang 6 > 244 >NO.1> 53 > 24-5 > ZC9-3 >Jizhen 1 > SH40 > M9. The purpose of this study was to screen out the interstocks with strong cold resistance, in order to provide some basis for the selection and utilization of interstocks with strong cold resistance in apple cultivation to further promote the development of the apple industry in China.

Abstract Dwarfing interstocks play an essential role in determining the performance of fruit trees. SH40, Jizhen 1, and Jizhen 2 are widely used dwarfing interstocks in Hebei Province, China. This study examined the influence of these three dwarfing interstocks on vegetative growth, fruit quality and yield, and leaf and fruit macro- (N, P, K, Ca, and Mg) and micro- (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, and B) element contents for 'Tianhong 2'. Abstract: ... of the reserved renewal. Jinan Tianhong Community Refinery Industrial Heritage Park was selected as the case study ...

Abstract The renewal of industrial heritage is a long process. With the development of society, a single form of renewal can no longer meet the needs of the public and environment in China. In the case that a large number of industrial heritage sites require secondary renewal, it becomes an urgent issue to consider how to achieve sustainability in the process of superimposed renewal, reduce the amount of future renewal changes, and at the same time realize economic and environmental friendliness, reduce maintenance costs, achieve cyclic spontaneous renewal, and ensure the feasibility, variability and growth of the reserved renewal. Jinan Tianhong Community Refinery Industrial Heritage Park was selected as the case study in this paper based on the theory of low maintenance to explore the strategy of superimposed renewal under the guidance of low maintenance and sustainability-oriented superimposed design in the social process; thus, the design of the secondary renewal of industrial heritage can create an eco-friendly space for activities from an ecological perspective, so as to achieve low-maintenance, low-intervention and sustainable industrial heritage renewal in the long-term.

Abstract Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) plays a significant role in the environmental, economic, social and cultural spheres and is a key element in achieving sustainable development goals. Higher education institutions, as the main producers of future leaders, are essential to the practice of ESD. However, Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HESD) is still in its infancy in many higher education institutions. This study adopts corpus-based text analysis and case study methods. Starting from the features of ESD and examining the case of the “Global Engagement Program”, this paper aims to explore how higher education can better promote sustainable development within the framework of ESD and proposes the model of HESD. Specifically, this study focuses on the following questions: (1) what are the features of ESD based on UNESCO’s official documents; (2) how does the Global Engagement Program seek to achieve HESD and (3) what is the proposed model of HESD?

Abstract The method based on the photosynthetic inhibition effect of algae offers the advantages of swift response and straightforward measurement. Nonetheless, this effect is influenced by both the environment and the state of the algae themselves. Additionally, a single parameter is vulnerable to uncertainties, rendering the measurement accuracy and stability inadequate.
