    Abstract Objective: This study aimed to investigate the voice use of nurses working in intensive care units (ICUs) and their perception of acoustic environments.
    Setting and sample: The research was conducted in four different hospitals in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 60 ICU nurses were recruited for their voice use monitoring and 100 nurses participated in the survey.
    Research methodology: Firstly, voice-related parameters such as voice level (SPL, dB), fundamental frequency (F0, Hz), and voicing time percentage (Dt, %) were measured using a vocal monitor. To collect data, a non-invasive accelerometer was attached to the participants' necks during their working hours. Secondly, the perception of the ICU acoustic environment was assessed using semantic differential.
    Results: The results showed that nurses spoke approximately 0.9-4 dB louder to patients and colleagues in ICUs compared to quiet rooms, and their fundamental frequency (F0) significantly increased during work. The voice levels of nurses were influenced by background noise levels, with a significant correlation coefficient of 0.44 (p < 0.01). Furthermore, the background noise levels ranged from 58.1 to 73.9 dBA, exceeding the guideline values set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The semantic differential analysis identified 'Stress' and 'Irritation' as the two main components, indicating the prevalence of negative experiences within ICUs.
    Implications for clinical practice: This study highlights the potential risk of voice disorders among ICU nurses. The findings also underscore the importance of implementing strategies to reduce noise levels in ICUs to reduce voice disorders among nurses.

    Abstract Background: Healthcare workers have been identified as being at risk of occupational voice disorders. Among them, nurses working in intensive care units (ICUs) are particularly vulnerable due to the risk factors that are associated with their exposure to high levels of noise. Thus, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of voice disorders among ICU nurses.
    Methods: A questionnaire was administered to 100 ICU nurses from four hospitals in China. The questionnaire assessed vocal-related symptoms, perceived voice handicap, frequently heard noise sources, and the quality of communications.
    Results: Results indicate that the most frequently reported voice symptoms were 'voice tiredness' and 'voiceless'. Nurses working more than 50 h per week experienced voice symptoms more frequently than nurses working for 40-50 h per week. The median value of the perceived voice handicap score (VHI-30) was 23, indicating mild voice handicap, while 24% of the nurses reported severe voice handicap. Longer working hours and working at patient wards were significantly associated with higher VHI-30 scores. The nurses also reported that the quality of verbal communication with patients and colleagues and voice problems worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    Conclusion: More than 20% of nurses reported severe voice handicap, however, voice handicap among ICU nurses did not appear universally to all nurses. Further research is necessary to identify the risk factors associated with voice disorders and the mechanism behind such heterogeneity among ICU nurses.

    Abstract Backdoor attack to deep neural networks (DNNs) is among the predominant approaches to bring great threats into artificial intelligence. The existing methods to detect backdoor attacks focus on the perspective of distributions in DNNs, however, limited by its ability of generalization across DNN models. In this article, a critical-path-based backdoor detector (CPBD) is proposed, which approaches to detect backdoor attacks via DNN's interpretability. CPBD is designed to efficiently discover the characteristics of backdoors, which distinguish the critical paths in the attacked DNNs. To deal with the intractably large number of neurons, we propose to simplify the neurons, and the preserved key nodes are integrated into a set of critical paths. Thus, a DNN model can be formulated as a combination of several critical paths. Afterward, the detection of backdoors is performed based on the analysis of critical paths corresponding to different classes. Then, combining all the above steps, the CPBD algorithm is integrated to present the results in a standard and systematic manner. In addition, CPBD is able to locate neurons associated with malicious triggers, the combination of which is named as trigger propagation path. Extensive experiments are conducted, which testify the efficiency of the proposed method on multiple DNNs and different trigger sizes.

    Abstract Background: As a post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism, alternative splicing (AS) is engaged in a variety of pathophysiological processes, and it has been widely reported in connection with the occurrence, progression, metastasis, and drug resistance of cancer. However, the research on AS in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is very limited. In addition, the prognostic effect of AS event (ASE) on LUAD and its related mechanism are not clear. This study aimed to explore the role and potential prognostic value of ASE in LUAD.
    Methods: Relevant data and ASE datasets of the sample were acquired from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and TCGASpliceSeq databases. We constructed a new prognostic criterion based on ASEs. Then, Cox regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis were used to construct the model. Based on this model, the risk score of each ASE was calculated, and the reliability of this model was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier survival and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses. Finally, these results were verified on different network platforms.
    Results: We identified seven types of ASEs related to survival. The prognostic risk model for ASEs was established. The Kaplan-Meier curve showed that compared to the low-risk group, the overall survival (OS) rate of LUAD patients in the high-risk group was lower. ROC curve analysis showed that the prognostic risk model of LUAD patients was well predicted, and the area under the curve (AUC) also confirmed this.
    Conclusions: This study screened the ASE related to the prognosis of LUAD patients, and provided a theoretical basis for further study of the correlation between ASE and the prognosis of LUAD patients. It has provided new ideas for developing new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for LUAD patients.

    Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive underwater visual reconstruction paradigm that comprises three procedures, i.e., the E-procedure, the R-procedure, and the H-procedure. The E-procedure enhances original underwater images based on color compensation balance and weighted image fusion, yielding restored color, sharpened edges, and global contrast. The R-procedure registers multiple enhanced underwater images by exploiting global similarity and local deformation. The H-procedure homogenizes the registered underwater images by multi-scale composition strategy, which eliminates the inhomogeneous transition and brightness difference across overlapping regions, resulting in a reconstructed wide-field underwater image with comfortable and natural visibility. The three procedures operate in a cascade where the former procedure processes underwater images in a way that facilitates the latter one. We refer to the overall three procedures as the Enhancement-Registration-Homogenization (ERH) paradigm. Comprehensive qualitative and quantitative empirical evaluations reveal that our ERH paradigm outperforms state-of-the-art visual reconstruction methods, including the AutoStitch, APAP, SPHP, APNAP, and REW.
