Abstract DNA extraction, playing an irreplaceable role in molecular biology as it is an essential step prior to various downstream biological analyses. Thus, the accuracy and reliability of downstream research outcomes depend largely on upstream DNA extraction methodology. However, with the advancement of downstream DNA detection techniques, the development of corresponding DNA extraction methods is lagging behind. The most innovative DNA extraction techniques are silica- or magnetic-based. Recent studies have demonstrated that plant fiber-based adsorbents (PF-BAs) have stronger DNA capturing ability than classic materials. Moreover, magnetic ionic liquid (MIL)-based DNA extraction has gathered attention lately, and extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA), cell-free DNA (cfDNA), and microbial community DNA are current research hotspots. These require specific extraction methods, along with constant improvements in the way they are used. This review discusses the significance as well as the direction of innovation of DNA extraction methods to try to provide valuable references including current status and trends for DNA extraction.

Abstract We present a dual-flow network for autonomous driving using an attention mechanism. The model works as follows: (i) The perception network extracts red, blue, and green (RGB) images from the video at low speed as input and performs feature extraction of the images; (ii) The motion network obtains grayscale images from the video at high speed as the input and completes the extraction of object motion features; (iii) The perception and motion networks are fused using an attention mechanism at each feature layer to perform the waypoint prediction. The model was trained and tested using the CARLA simulator and enabled autonomous driving in complex urban environments, achieving a success rate of 74%, especially in the case of multiple dynamic objects.

Abstract Microfluidics is an interdisciplinary field that combines knowledge from various disciplines, including biology, chemistry, sports medicine, fluid dynamics, kinetic biomechanics, and microelectronics, to manipulate and control fluids and particles in micron-scale channels and chambers. These channels and chambers can be fabricated using different materials and methods to achieve various geometries and shapes. Microfluidics has numerous biomedical applications, such as drug encapsulation, nanoparticle preparation, cell targeting, analysis, diagnosis, and treatment of sports injuries in both professional and non-professional athletes. It can also be used in other fields, such as biological analysis, chemical synthesis, optics, and acceleration in the treatment of critical sports injuries. The objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of microfluidic technology, including its fabrication methods, current platform materials, and its applications in sports medicine. Biocompatible, biodegradable, and semi-crystalline polymers with unique mechanical and thermal properties are one of the promising materials in microfluidic technology. Despite the numerous advantages of microfluidic technology, further research and development are necessary. Although the technology offers benefits such as ease of operation and cost efficiency, it is still in its early stages. In conclusion, this review emphasizes the potential of microfluidic technology and highlights the need for continued research to fully exploit its potential in the biomedical field and sport applications.

Abstract Background: Recent reports have described cases of metachronous breast metastasis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, no similar cases of synchronous breast metastasis have been reported, and evidence that can be used to support the clinical diagnosis of stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma in patients with concurrent breast metastasis remains lacking. Therefore, additional evidence is required to elucidate the clinical characteristics of this condition and aid in the development of optimal management strategies.
Case summary: We report the case of a 46-year-old woman who visited our hospital with a right breast mass as the first symptom. The first pathological biopsy report suggested triple-negative breast invasive carcinoma. Subsequent imaging revealed a nasopharyngeal mass. Further puncture biopsy of the nasopharyngeal mass, molecular pathological Epstein-Barr virus
Conclusion: This case report suggests that breast specialists should carefully rule out secondary breast cancers when diagnosing and treating breast masses. Furthermore, clinicians should aim to identify the pathological type of the tumor to obtain the most accurate diagnosis and prevent excessive diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract Efficient and robust quantification of the number of nanoparticles in solution is not only essential but also insufficient in nanotechnology and biomedical research. This paper proposes to use optical coherence tomography (OCT) to quantify the number of gold nanorods, which exemplify the nanoparticles with high light scattering signals. Additionally, we have developed an AI-enhanced OCT image processing to improve the accuracy and robustness of the quantification result.
