Abstract Hibernomas are uncommon and benign tumors made up of brown fat cells. These tumors are typically found in the thigh, axillae, shoulder, back, neck, thorax, arm, and retroperitoneum. There are 4 histological variants of hibernomas, including the typical pattern, myxoid, lipoma-like, and spindle cell variant. The lipoma-like variant is characterized by numerous univacuolated adipocytic cells with intermingled multivacuolated granular cells. It is worth noting that lipoma-like hibernoma in the breast is infrequent. In this case, we present a 72-year-old woman with a history of moderately differentiated cholangiocarcinoma, obesity, and no family history of breast cancer. She consulted for a mass sensation in her right breast that had been present for a year. The mass was not painful and showed no inflammation or nipple discharge. Upon physical examination, a palpable 14 cm mass was identified, occupying the 2 internal quadrants and causing deformation of the surface of the right breast. Imaging studies indicated a solid mass in the lower-inner quadrant of the right breast, which was oval-shaped, well-defined, and displayed internal vascularization. Initially, a diagnosis of low-grade liposarcoma was considered, leading to a core needle biopsy guided by ultrasound. However, the histopathology study revealed a lipoma-like hibernoma, an exceedingly rare benign lesion. Lipoma-like hibernoma can present as a palpable mass or may be incidentally discovered. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any lesion containing fatty content. Imaging methods may suggest its presence, but histopathology confirms the diagnosis and its accuracy prevents needless overtreatment.

Abstract Poor functional recovery after spinal cord injury (SCI) drives the development of novel strategies to manage this devastating condition. We recently showed promising immunomodulatory and pro-regenerative actions of bio-functionalized carbon microfibres (MFs) implanted in a rodent model of SCI. In order to maximize tissue repair while easing MF implantation, we produced a composite implant based on the embedding of several MFs within a fibrin hydrogel. We used intravital imaging of fluorescent reporter mice at the early stages and spinal sections of the same animals 3 months later to characterize the neuroinflammatory response to the implant and its impact on axonal regeneration. Whereas fibrin alone was inert in the first week, its enzymatic degradation drove the chronic activation of microglial cells and axonal degeneration within 3 months. However, the presence of MFs inside the fibrin hydrogel slowed down fibrin degradation and boosted the early recruitment of immune cells. Noteworthy, there was an enhanced contribution of monocyte-derived dendritic cells (moDCs), preceding a faster transition toward an anti-inflammatory environment with increased axonal regeneration over 3 months. The inclusion of MF here ensured the long-term biocompatibility of fibrin hydrogels, which would otherwise preclude successful spinal cord regeneration.

Abstract The present study contains an experimental analysis of the vibratory response in a low-cylinder engine motorcycle at varying suspension preloads. Three different speed bumps of varying heights were used to subject the motorcycle to different vibrations. The analysis was carried out in three domains: time, frequency, and time-frequency. A triaxial accelerometer was used to measure the vibrations at the seat of the vehicle. The results indicated that the suspension system became more differentiated as the height of the bumps increased. However, for lower bumps, the action of the three spring preloads studied was quite similar. Quantitatively, only the higher bump showed a significant difference between the set preloads. The spectral distribution revealed that the frequency of interest was below 20 Hz for all the studied cases, which is in the same range of human body natural frequencies. The findings of this research can be utilized to enhance the design of low-cost motorcycles, thereby improving the safety and comfort of their drivers and passengers. This study constitutes a significant step towards developing an affordable system capable of gathering sufficient data to support the creation of evidence-based public health policies and propose new transport industry standards based on field measurements.

Abstract Considering the importance of communication and independence for the deafblind community, this work presents findings of the use of technology to address the lack of information due to communication challenges among the deafblind community. Over time, many investigations have been carried out regarding this matter, but very few providing solution, which is why this study emerged, looking to making all the information broadcasted through television accessible for this community. The work team designed a technology (GoCC4All) to address the needs of the deafblind community. GoCC4All provides access to captions available on TV through braille displays and mobile devices. Our research process and results outline the path for creating, adapting, and adopting new technologies for people with disabilities who have the right to access the information just as their peers without disabilities. The information in this paper is based on two surveys, an initial beta testing (BT) and a final survey among a group of 14 users (UT) who tested the GoCC4All application. Our findings support the positive impact of the iterative creation of assistive technology based on users' experience and users' recommendations to better serve the needs of the deafblind community.

Abstract Purpose: To describe the epidemiology, incidence, mortality and survival of ocular cancer in Cali between 1962 and 2019.
Methods: Ecological population-based study analyzing data of incidence, mortality, and 5-years survival of malignant ocular tumors from the Populational Cancer Registry of Cali between 1962 and 2019.
Results: Between 1962 and 2019, 586 ocular tumors were found, 50.5% occurred in females, the mean age at diagnosis was 45 years (standard deviation = 25), 70.3% of ocular malignancies occurred in >14 years. The average annual incidence rate was 7.8 per million for male and 6.9 per million for females. Retinoblastoma (21%), squamous cell carcinoma (20%), melanoma (16%) and lymphoma (8%) were the most common neoplasm. In those <15 years, the most frequent malignant tumors were retinoblastomas (85.7%), followed by non-specified malignant neoplasm (NOS, 7.9%), and rhabdomyosarcoma (3.6%). In those >14 years, there were NOS (30%), followed by squamous cell carcinomas (28%), melanomas (23%), and lymphomas (9.7%). Conjunctiva (38.2%), retina (21%) and orbit (10%) constituted the majority of anatomical sites of ocular tumors. The survival rate was about 83.2% and mortality did not show a decreasing trend over time (
Conclusions: The incidence of ocular cancer in Cali has a slightly increasing trend, with stable behavior in the last decades. Squamous cell carcinoma, retinoblastoma, melanoma and lymphoma are the most frequent ocular cancers, with being retinoblastoma more frequent than melanoma. In general, ocular cancer had good survival rates in Cali.

Abstract Background: Population-based cancer survival is an indicator of the effectiveness of cancer services that reflects the survival of all cancer patients in the population, regardless of socioeconomic status and disease characteristics.
Aim: Provision of an up-to-date survival estimate of patients recorded within Cali Population Cancer Registry (RPCC) in 1998-2017. As a second objective, results will be compared with those reported by the CONCORD study for cancers prioritized by the current Ten-Year Cancer Control Plan of Colombia, 2012-2021.
Methods: Adult cancer cases (aged 15 to 99 years) for nine cancer types diagnosed between 1998 and 2017, with follow-up to 2018, were obtained from the RPCC. The 5-year age-standardized net survival estimates (NS) were estimated using the Pohar-Perme. The results for the period 1995- 2014 were compared with those reported by the CONCORD study for the following locations: stomach (C16), breast (C50), cervix (C53), prostate (C61), and lung (C33-34).
Results: Five-year survival estimates for breast and prostate cancers improved ten percentage points through 2007 (70.8 to 81.1 for breast and 79.9 to 90.2 for prostate) and remained stable during 2008-2017. For cervical cancer, survival estimates has remained stable for the last two decades at 53%. For stomach cancer and lung cancer, five-year NS was lower than 25% over the study period. For colorectal cancer, survival estimates increased from 37.9% in 1998-2002 to 54.8% in 2013-2017. Compared to previous 5-year survival estimates of cases diagnosed in 2010-2014, the estimates in this study are significantly higher than those obtained by CONCORD. Survival estimates of patients diagnosed in 1995-2009 showed no difference to CONCORD study.
Conclusions: Periodic update of vital status and date of last contact reduces bias in survival estimates in population-based cancer registries with passive follow-up.
