    Abstract Evidence-based social skills interventions for young adults are limited, despite social difficulties in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) persisting after transition to adulthood. The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills for Young Adults (PEERS®-YA) is an evidence-based intervention found to be effective in improving relational skills in young adults with ASD. To translate the original American version of the PEERS®-YA treatment manual into Korean, intensive interviews were performed. Based on results from interviews, several rules of dating etiquette and social activities were modified to be culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate. Next, young adults diagnosed with ASD (18-35 years of age; IQ > 70) and their social coaches were recruited for the randomized controlled trial (RCT). Participants were randomly assigned either to a treatment group (TG;

    Abstract Nuclear factor Y (NF-Y) is a transcription factor which plays an important role in the regulation of various developmental processes and stress responses in plants. By using various bioinformatics tools, the identification and analyses of the NF-YA subunit of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) have been attempted in this study. A total of 12 members of the NF-YA gene family were identified in the cassava genome. They were located on the 18 cassava chromosomes with different frequencies. Several initial structural analyses of the NF-YA family were also performed. Among them, the typical gene organization of the MeNF-YA gene family contained 5 exons/4 introns. Interestingly, the conserved region of NF-YA was characterized by the interaction of NF-YB/C domain and the DNA binding domain. This study provided information on NF-Y in plants.

    Abstract Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effects from the memory-triple (MT) heat treatment on the fatigue resistance of the Reciproc by comparison with the file systems of same geometry.
    Methods: Reciproc files subjected to MT heat treatment technology were designated as Group RMT and were compared with the original Reciproc (Group REC) and Reciproc Blue (Group REB). Each NiTi file from 3 groups (n = 15) was operated reciprocally with a repetitive up-and-down movement in the curved canal with 4 mm of pecking distance inside of the simulated canal at body temperature. When each file fractured, the time until fracture was recorded. The length of the fractured fragment was measured. Fractured fragments were observed under scanning electron microscope (SEM) to evaluate the topographic features of the surface. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis was performed to estimate phase transformation temperatures. One-way analysis of variance and Duncan post hoc comparison were applied to compare among the groups at a significance level of 95%.
    Results: RMT showed significantly higher fracture resistance (P < .05), whereas there was no difference in fatigue resistance between REC and REB. SEM examination showed the files from the 3 groups had similar topographic features. RMT showed a peak of austenite peak (Ap) at a temperature (52°C) higher than body temperature, whereas REC and REB showed Ap at 37 and 32°C, respectively.
    Conclusions: Under the condition of this study, the new heat treatment technique of MT technology could enhance the fatigue fracture resistance of the reciprocating files made of M-wire and Blue-wire.

    Abstract Background: /Purpose: Acute appendicitis (AA) stands as the most prevalent cause of acute abdominal pain among children. The potential for morbidity escalates significantly when uncomplicated appendicitis (UA) progresses to complicated appendicitis (CA), which can encompass gangrenous, necrotic, or perforated appendicitis. Consequently, establishing an early and accurate diagnosis of AA, and effectively differentiating CA from UA, becomes paramount. This study explores the diagnostic utility of various blood biomarkers for distinguishing CA from UA in pediatric patients.
    Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of medical records pertaining to pediatric patients who underwent surgery for AA. Patients were categorized as either having UA or CA based on histopathological examination of the appendix. The data collected and analyzed included demographic information, white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil proportion, lymphocyte proportion, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels upon admission.
    Results: Among the 192 pediatric patients who underwent surgery for AA, 150 were diagnosed with UA, while 42 were diagnosed with CA. The CA group exhibited significantly higher neutrophil proportions, NLRs, PLRs, and CRP levels, alongside lower lymphocyte proportions (all p < 0.01) compared to the UA group. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis disclosed that CRP exhibited the highest specificity, sensitivity, and positive and negative predictive values for predicting CA.
    Conclusion: CRP emerges as a valuable biomarker for differentiating complicated appendicitis from uncomplicated appendicitis.

    Abstract Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the torsional resistance, cyclic fatigue resistance, and bending stiffness of nickel-titanium (NiTi) file systems with different heat treatments and cross-sectional designs.
    Methods: WaveOne Primary treated with memory-triple (MT) heat treatment (WOMT) was compared with WaveOne Primary (WO) and WaveOne Gold Primary (WOG). Torsional resistance test was performed using a customized device, and the distortion angle, ultimate strength, and toughness were evaluated. For cyclic fatigue resistance test, the instruments were reciprocated with continuous 4 mm up-and-down movement until fracture in a customized device, and the time to fracture was compared. Fracture surfaces of each group were examined under the scanning electron microscope. Bending stiffness was measured using a custom-made device. The results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey's post hoc comparison at a significance level of 95%.
    Results: WOMT showed higher ultimate strength and toughness than the other systems (P < .05). WOMT also showed highest cyclic fatigue resistance among the tested groups (P < .05). WO had the highest bending stiffness than others, whereas WOMT had a larger residual angle than others (P < .05).
    Conclusions: This new MT heat treatment technique makes NiTi file more flexible and improves its mechanical properties. In addition, the effect of heat treatment on flexibility was found to be more significant than that of the cross-sectional area.

    Abstract Background/purpose: Periodical replacement of venous Hickman catheters is required for the nutritional care of patients with intestinal failure. The conventional de novo operation (DN-OP) involves inserting the catheter into a new venous tract in each replacement; however, this could result in fast consumption of functional central vessels in patients with intestinal failure. Recently, same-route operation (SR-OP) has been adopted as an alternative approach for retaining venous access. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study to compare the efficacy of Hickman catheters and the survival of venous vessels using two different operative strategies. Results: Overall, 181 catheters were inserted, 109 using DN-OP and 72 using SR-OP. The mean catheter duration was 11.9 ± 8.8 months in the DN-OP group and 10.5 ± 5.6 months in the SR-OP group; the infection rate was 0.74 in the DN-OP group and 0.44 in the SR-OP group. The vein accesses used in these insertions (n = 113) were classified: the DN-vein group for veins accessed only by DN-OP (n = 75) and the SR-vein group for veins accessed by an initial DN-OP and subsequent SR-OPs (n = 38). Mean working duration per vein access was 12.3 ± 10.1 months in the DN-vein group and 28.2 ± 14.8 months in the SR-vein group (p < 0.001); mean infection-free duration was 11.4 ± 10.1 months in the DN-vein group and 27.7 ± 15.3 months in the SR-vein group (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Application of SR-OP in Hickman catheter replacement significantly extended the working duration of venous access by re-using the same venous route without compromising catheter efficacy in patients with IF having poor venous access.
