Abstract The contribution of the surface layer to the reflection coefficients is shown to be determined by four surface integral values, which can be interpreted as real and imaginary parts of two complex permittivity excesses. The reflectance-absorbance spectra are determined by the spectra of these parameters. The spectra of the surface excess integrals cannot be found with the angular measurements of reflection-absorption spectra, which are determined by only three angular dependent terms. To determine these four surface excess integrals, it is necessary to involve the experimental data of spectroscopic ellipsometry or polarization-modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy providing equivalent information about surface. In the case of weakly absorbing bulk medium, the real parts of the excesses can be neglected, permitting calculation of their imaginary parts using the angular dependence of the absorbance. The calculation of these parameters allows to check consistency of the data obtained. Measurements of the angular dependence of the absorbance of p-polarized radiation reflected from the DPPC monolayer upon distilled water were performed. The data obtained turned to be in good agreement with the proposed theoretical analysis.

Abstract Mobile ropeways for transportation and crossing operations, formed by means of end-carriages connected by a single rope system on the basis of self-propelled wheeled or tracked chassis of increased carrying capacity and all-terrain mobility are a promising type of lifting and transport equipment, which ensures rapid deployment of necessary technological means. In the article the questions of pre-arrangement of a boom installation mechanism and fixing in a working position of the end support by means of a folding boom consisting of two articulated links for a constructive variant of the outrigger placement of the support on a rotary platform are examined. The construction and principle of operation of the boom mechanism is considered. A mathematical model ensuring the required standard vertical dimension of the self-propelled mobile ropeway for the purpose of its safe independent movement to the place of the ropeway deployment along the general-purpose motor roads has been developed. An analysis of the influence of normative dimensional requirements, structural dimensions of the carrying frame of the chassis, and the height of the end support on the main design dimensions of the articulated folding boom in the transport position has been carried out.

Abstract Caterpillar movers is a widespread variant of implementing conveying mechanisms for lifting, construction and road vehicles, which has a number of advantages in comparison with rail-wheeled, pneumatic-wheeled and stepping mechanisms, in particular, it does not require working platforms and has improved driving qualities when moving over rough terrain. This paper proposes an inversion approach to the traction calculation of a tracked mover, which lies in representation of its traction and carrying elements in the form of a closed contour, which allows applying the basic provisions of the theory of traction calculation of continuous vehicles to determine the resistance to motion and, accordingly, the tension in the contour of the caterpillar belt. The proposed approach makes it possible to estimate the contribution of different motion resistances to the total traction force during the rectilinear motion depending on the design features of each specific area of the tracked belt taking into account the load redistribution between different caterpillars of one chassis. The obtained results can be applied both in designing conventional special tracked vehicles and in developing prototypes of caterpillar vehicles with displaced load application centers, in particular, caterpillar chassis of mobile transport-overloading rope complexes.

Abstract Changes in road legislation and trucking regulations have led to the need to take into account the maximum axle loads that arise during road transport. In particular, this task is relevant when transporting bulk cargo because when braking or accelerating trucks (road trains), when driving on a longitudinal gradient, or when driving on curves, there can be a displacement of part of the cargo relative to the axles of the vehicle. In article results of experimental research of displacements of loose cargo (gravel, crushed stone) at transportations and their influence on change of axle loadings of cargo vehicles are resulted. During the research the level of loose cargo in semitrailer truck-trailer before and after the experiment was measured, axle load weighing and full train weight weighing was made, in addition video recording of loose cargo displacement was made. Conducting the analysis of experimental data of axial weighing we found out that during transportation of loose cargo its redistribution inside semi-trailer takes place, and it in its turn leads to change of axle loads of road-train. The axle load variations were outside the measurement error range of 1.4 to 4.9%. A further proof of the shifting of the bulk load in the semi-trailer was the video recording of the load in transit. The analysis of the videos showed that both crushed stone and gravel shifted in the semitrailer when the vehicle was moving at high speed. As a result of this work, an experimental confirmation of the fact that the bulk cargo is shifted relative to the sides of the semi-trailer during braking and this shift leads to changes in the axle loads of trucks was obtained.

Abstract In the operation of aerial ropeways, the system of load-bearing and running skyline system, which provides the ability to move passengers or transported cargo between the endpoints of the route, experiences a high level of loading from a variety of operational loads and environmental influences. Those loads and influences form the rope system tension that is variable along the rope route and has a decisive influence on the main technical and economic parameters of mobile ropeways, and thus determine the concrete areas of their effective and inexpedient or unacceptable use. This article presents an engineering method of building the diagrams of the tension of the fixed and non-stationary operation modes of a mobile ropeway. The presented calculation dependences allow to determine the rope pull forces at the characteristic points along their length and the calculation dependences for determining the rope resistance forces at the characteristic portions of the mobile ropeway route. This method can be used both for the estimation of rope system loading based on a great number of factors that characterize operational loads, terrain and transported cargo parameters, and for the analysis of orientation and importance of variation of the stated factors and main design parameters of the main technological equipment of mobile transportation-transporting rope complexes. Also, the analysis results of influence of variation of a number of significant quantitative parameters on the change of nonlinear ropes’ pulling forces are presented.

Abstract Recent advances in machine learning techniques have led to development of a number of protein design and engineering approaches. One of them, ProteinMPNN, predicts an amino acid sequence that would fold and match user-defined backbone structure. Its performance was previously tested for proteins composed of standard amino acids, as well as for peptide- and protein-binding proteins. In this short report, we test whether ProteinMPNN can be used to reengineer a non-proteinaceous ligand-binding protein, flavin-based fluorescent protein CagFbFP. We fixed the native backbone conformation and the identity of 20 amino acids interacting with the chromophore (flavin mononucleotide, FMN) while letting ProteinMPNN predict the rest of the sequence. The software package suggested replacing 36-48 out of the remaining 86 amino acids so that the resulting sequences are 55%-66% identical to the original one. The three designs that we tested experimentally displayed different expression levels, yet all were able to bind FMN and displayed fluorescence, thermal stability, and other properties similar to those of CagFbFP. Our results demonstrate that ProteinMPNN can be used to generate diverging unnatural variants of fluorescent proteins, and, more generally, to reengineer proteins without losing their ligand-binding capabilities.
