Abstract COVID-19 symptomology may overlap with other circulating respiratory viruses that may also cause severe disease and for which there are specific and potentially life-saving treatments. The Abbott Alinity m Resp-4-Plex assay is a multiplex PCR assay that simultaneously detects and differentiates infection with SARS-CoV-2, influenza A, influenza B, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). We characterized its accuracy, precision, and analytical sensitivity. All were found to be robust for measures examined. In the context of sample-to-answer, near random access automation on the Alinity m platform, we believe that the Resp-4-Plex assay offers significant utility in addressing the current needs of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and future needs during anticipated endemic circulation of SARS-CoV-2 with other respiratory viruses.

Abstract I provide a narrative of the path I took to discover the membrane receptors that mediate leukocyte adhesion, now known as β2 integrins or CD11/CD18. We followed this discovery with the first determination of the 3-D structures of integrins. The latter advance provided the foundation for understanding the unique features of integrins as divalent cation-dependent signaling receptors and as mechanosensitive conduits between the extracellular matrix and the intracellular cytoskeleton. Our structural studies are now opening new paths for taming overactive integrins in disease while minimizing the collateral damage associated with the faulty pharmacodynamics of current integrin inhibitory drugs.

Abstract Objectives: The aim of this work was to identify the long-term risk associated with prediabetes and developing subsequent cardiac events in patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) at a tertiary health-care centre.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed patients admitted with ACS between January and December 2013. Two hundred thirty patients with prediabetes were matched to a comparison cohort of patients with no diabetes based on age, sex, and diagnosis code of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems---10th revision. The primary outcome was incidence of ACS readmission over a 5-year period.
Results: There were 46 (20%) readmissions for ACS in the prediabetes cohort and 33 (14.3%) in the no-diabetes cohort. Univariable conditional logistic regression showed that prediabetes was not a significant risk factor for ACS readmission (odds ratio, 1.481; 95% confidence interval, 0.909 to 2.414; p=0.115). After accounting for other major risk factors for coronary disease, prediabetes was not shown to be a significant risk factor for ACS readmission (odds ratio, 1.333; 95% confidence interval, 0.795 to 2.233; p=0.276).
Conclusions: Among patients presenting with ACS, prediabetes was not associated with increased risk of readmission for subsequent cardiac events compared with patients with no diabetes after 5 years of follow-up. A longer follow-up duration is needed.

Abstract Introduction and significance: Intraductal papilloma (IDP) is a benign breast lesion characterized by a small, delicate wart-like growth found within the milk ducts. Typically located centrally behind the nipple, IDP often presents with a serous, serosanguinous, or bloody discharge from the nipple, making it a common cause of abnormal nipple discharge. Differential diagnosis is crucial as it can be mistaken for other conditions such as pigmented Paget's disease and pigmented basal cell carcinoma.
Case presentation: This case study depicts a 35-year-old female with a painless, pigmented mass on the nipple of her right breast that had been present for four months. Physical examination revealed a well-defined blue nodule measuring 13 × 8 mm. Although mammography and ultrasound did not detect any abnormalities in the breast tissue, a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of intraductal papilloma. The lesion was surgically excised under local anesthesia without complications.
Clinical discussion: In this case, IDP presented as a blue nodule near the nipple. Despite the patient's young age and unique presentation, the diagnosis of intraductal papilloma was made based on the identified risk factors for breast tumors. Differential diagnoses considered included mammary Paget disease, nipple duct adenoma, and erosive adenomatosis of the nipple.
Conclusion: This case report underscores the uncommon occurrence of IDP manifesting on the nipple. A thorough evaluation incorporating medical history, physical examination, imaging studies, and cytological analysis is essential for an accurate diagnosis and to exclude malignancy. Surgical excision was successful in removing the lesion.

Abstract Background: Although the interforniceal approach with the preservation of the fornix is useful during the endoscopic approach for retroforaminal colloid cysts, it carries a significant risk of memory and cognitive difficulties. Because most reports have reported the endoscopic approach to colloid cysts through the foramen with little emphasis on retroforaminal cysts, the aim of this study was to investigate colloid cysts as a special entity with regard to their different characteristics and surgical approaches and outcomes.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 12 patients with third ventricular colloid cysts with retroforaminal extensions were included. All patients underwent endoscopic transseptal interforniceal approach with tumor resection. The surgical technique was briefly described, and preoperative and postoperative data were evaluated.
Results: Among the 12 patients included in this study, most of our patients were males. Average diameter of the colloid cyst was relatively large (average 22 mm). Gross total resection was achieved in 10 cases (83.3%). The stable images showed no local recurrence in the long-term follow-up period except in 1 case at the 28-month follow-up period.
Conclusions: Retroforaminal colloid cyst represents a unique entity that requires special attention to its mode of growth. The endoscopic approach for retroforaminal colloid cysts is nearly the same as that for foraminal cysts. It has a lower incidence rate of postoperative memory changes, lower chances of total resection, and lower incidence rate of hard contents. Moreover, sufficient knowledge on morbid anatomy is important to avoid fornix injury.

Abstract Meckel's diverticulum MD is the most common congenital deformity of the gastrointestinal tract. It has a very low reported incidence. We reported a 9-year-old child complaining of symptoms of small bowel obstruction. He had no medical or surgical history. There is no signs of peritonitis and appendicitis. Simple abdominal X-ray diagnosed the obstruction, during surgery we found an MD located 30 cm from the ileocecal valve, fibrous band may be as complication for MD to the anterior abdominal wall at the umbilicus, the small intestines were wrapped around the band, causing the obstruction. The MD and the band were excised with end-to-end anastomosis. We diagnosed our case during surgery. Early surgery is important to preserve bowel from gangrene or necrosis. The patient's well-being improved, and he was discharged from the hospital in good condition.

Abstract Multiple hereditary exostosis syndrome is a rare diagnosis with approximately 1:50000 incidence prevailing in males. The exostoses or osteochondromas are benign but have the potential for malignant transformation in 1-5%. There is a strong genetic component, with exostosis (EXT) signaling pathways being an underlying cause. They can be symptomatic, with pain and functional deficit as the main complaints. We present a case of a 17-year-old male who presented with pain and anatomical deformity in his left lower femur. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed multiple osteochondromas compressing the popliteal neurovascular bundle. Excision of the osteochondromas was performed to decompress the neurovascular bundle in a multidisciplinary approach. Histological examination demonstrated no evidence of malignancy. Currently, there is no consensus for patients diagnosed with multiple osteochondromas regarding further investigation and/or screening for malignant transformation.
