Abstract Achieving efficient photodynamic therapy (PDT) in deeper biological tissue is still the biggest bottleneck that limits its widespread application in clinic. Although deeper biological tissue PDT could be realized through a combination of upconversion nanoparticles with a photosensitizer, issues with particle-size-induced upconversion fluorescence (UF) reduction and the related in vivo toxicity still cannot be solved properly. In this study, we synthesized Y1Rs-ligand [Pro30, Nle31, Bpa32, Leu34]NPY(28-36) (NPY)-modified and photosensitizer MC540-loaded LiLuF4:Yb,Er@nLiGdF4@mSiO2 multifunctional nanocomposites (MNPs) with a core-multishell structure and ultrasmall size. Their in vitro and in vivo breast tumor targeting, trimodality imaging performance, PDT therapeutic efficacy, and acute toxicity were evaluated. Our results demonstrated that the core-multishell MNPs(MC540) could achieve excellent UF imaging, and that doping with Gd3+ and Lu3+ rare earth ions could enhance the MR and CT imaging performance. In addition, the mSiO2 shell provided a higher loading rate for the photosensitizer MC540, and the DSPE-PEG thin layer coating outside the MNPs(MC540) further improved the water solubility and biocompatibility, reducing the acute toxicity of the nanocomposites. Finally, the NPY modification enhanced the targetability of MNPs(MC540)/DSPE-PEG-NPY to breast tumors, improving the trimodality UF, CT, and MR imaging performance and PDT efficacy for Y1-receptor-overexpressed breast cancer. In general, our developed multifunctional nanocomposites can serve as a theranostic agent with low toxicity, providing great potential for their use in clinical breast cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Abstract The effects of laser parameters on the microstructure and properties of plasma-sprayed yttrium oxide coating on the graphite matrix were investigated. Tensile strength, porosity, roughness, and scratch meter tests were carried out to evaluate the critical load and mechanical properties of the coating after spraying and laser micro-melting. When the porosity and surface roughness of the coating are minimum, the critical load of the coating is 7.85 N higher than that of the spraying surface. After laser micromelting, the crystal phase of Y

Abstract: ... mechanism remains largely unknown. In this study, we found that the NUCLEAR FACTOR-Y (NF-Y) subunits NF-YA1 ...

Abstract Jasmonate (JA) is a well-known phytohormone essential for plant response to biotic stress. Recently, a crucial role of JA signaling in salt resistance has been highlighted; however, the specific regulatory mechanism remains largely unknown. In this study, we found that the NUCLEAR FACTOR-Y (NF-Y) subunits NF-YA1, NF-YB2, and NF-YC9 form a trimeric complex that positively regulates the expression of salinity-responsive genes, whereas JASMONATE-ZIM DOMAIN protein 8 (JAZ8) directly interacts with three subunits and acts as the key repressor to suppress both the assembly of the NF-YA1-YB2-YC9 trimeric complex and the transcriptional activation activity of the complex. When plants encounter high salinity, JA levels are elevated and perceived by the CORONATINE INSENSITIVE (COI) 1 receptor, leading to the degradation of JAZ8 via the 26S proteasome pathway, thereby releasing the activity of the NF-YA1-YB2-YC9 complex, initiating the activation of salinity-responsive genes, such as MYB75, and thus enhancing the salinity tolerance of plants.

Abstract External pressure has been successfully employed to achieve desirable spin alignments in the field of materials science but is seriously restricted by the difficulty of reaching high pressure with conventional methods. The search for simple and effective ways to apply pressure on the lattice is challenging but intriguing. Here we report a new strategy to manipulate the spin alignments of (Y,Lu)
