Abstract: Objective: To study pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics (PK-PD) correlation of Yin Teng Gu Bi Kang ...

Abstract Objective: To study pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics (PK-PD) correlation of Yin Teng Gu Bi Kang (YTGBK) prescription through determination of Tanshinone II(A) concentration and the level of Malondialdehyde (MDA) in plasma in normal and blood stasis rats treated with YTGBK prescription.
Methods: The concentration of Tanshinone II(A) in the plasma was measured by HPLC-UV and loratadine was used as internal standard; Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance assay (TBARS) was adopted to determine the concentration of MDA in the plasma Area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) and area under the effect-time curve (AUE) were calculated using linear trapezoid rule. The correlation and regression analysis was performed by plotting AUE (Y) versus lgAUC (X) using linear regression.
Results: YTGBK prescription could significantly decrease MDA level in the plasma in above two different physiological rats at the analyzed time point (P < 0.05). Scatter plots of AUE-lgAUC showed an upward trend. The results of the correlation and regression analysis were as follows: Y = 53.367 X -30.780, r = 0. 822, P = 0.007 for normal rats and Y = 61.091 X -39.863, r = 0.777, P = 0.003 for model rats, respectively.
Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between Tanshinone II(A) level in plasma and the antioxidant activity of YTGBK prescription in decreasing MDA level, which indicates that Tanshinone II(A) is the antioxidant effective substance of YTGBK prescription.

Abstract Objective: To elucidate the material basis of Yin Teng Gu Bi Kang Prescription (YTGBKP) for efficacy of promoting blood circulation by means of comparing the pharmaceutical chemistry difference of effective parts in normal rats and rats with acute blood stasis.
Methods: The pharmaceutical chemistry fingerprints of effective parts under physiological and pathological status (acute blood stasis) were established by HPLC,and the in vitro and in vivo chromatographic peaks were compared and analyzed.
Results: Five batches of drug-containing plasma samples had 14 chromatographic peaks under normal physiological status, among which 3 rooted in plasma, 9 existed originally in YTGBKP,2 were metabolites. The compound with retention lime at 12 min was identified as ferulic acid by comparing with reference standard; While under pathological status (acute blood stasis), five batches of the drug-containing plasma samples had 14 chromatographic peaks, among which 3 rooted in plasma, 9 existed originally in YTGBKP, 2 were metabolites. The compounds with retention time at 12 min and 32 min were identified as ferulic acid and icariin respectively by comparing with reference standards. There were 10 common peaks under normal physiological and pathological status (acute bloodl stasis) excluding peaks in blank plasma. The intensity of the common peaks produced under pathological status was stronger than that under normal physiological status significantly; Variance analysis showed that there were significant differences (P < 0.05) in peak areas of 3 peaks.
Conclusion: Blood stasis has influence on the absorption and metabolism of most ingredients from YTGBKPi; Prototypes and metabolites may be the effective substance on promoting blood circulation.

Abstract Phellinus linteus (Berkeley & Curtis) Teng, a well-known fungus of the genus Phellinus in the family of Hymenochaetaceae, is being increasingly used to treat a wide variety of disease processes such as oral ulcer, gastroenteric disorder, inflammation, lymphatic disease, and various cancers. However, the mechanism underlying its anti-oral cancer effect is poorly understood. In the present study, we prepared the ethanol extract of Phellinus linteus as a crude drug, and then obtained the active component hispolon by bioassay-guided isolation. Hispolon showed a dose-dependent inhibition of human epidermoid KB cell proliferation with IC50 of 4.62+/-0.16 microg/ml. Furthermore, it was revealed that hispolon could induce human epidermoid KB cell apoptosis with the characteristic of a DNA ladder, and with a significant increase of sub-G1. This process was accompanied by the collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential, the release of cytochrome c and the activation of Caspase-3. These results demonstrated that hispolon induced the death of KB cells through a mitochondria mediated apoptotic pathway. We propose that Phellinus linteus and its effective components could be used as an anti-oral cancer drug for future studies.

Abstract Infidelity has destructive effects on romantic relationships. Several idiographic characteristics or experiences in an intimate relationship have been linked to unfaithfulness. Yet, relatively little research has been paid to investigate how sexist beliefs might sabotage relationships by incurring infidelity. The present research examined the association between men's ambivalent sexism - hostile sexism and benevolent sexism - and men's infidelity as well as women's perception of the likelihood of men's infidelity. The results showed that men's hostile sexism and benevolent sexism predicted their increased infidelity (Studies 1 and 2). In addition, the indirect association between ambivalent sexism (both hostile sexism and benevolent sexism) and infidelity was through the importance placed on power in one's intimate relationship in general (Study 2). Importantly, women were unaware of benevolently sexist men's increased infidelity, such that women rated benevolently sexist men as having a lower likelihood of engaging in infidelity than hostilely sexist men and believed benevolently sexist men's infidelity level was similar to nonsexist men (Study 3). Therefore, these findings contribute to the psychology of infidelity by revealing that ambivalent sexism, both hostile sexism and benevolent sexism, are significant predictors. Implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract Mandibular angle osteotomy with outer cortex grinding is an effective cosmetic procedure for correcting square faces. However, morphological changes in the mandible may also cause temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the morphological stabilization of the TMJ and changes in masseter muscle thickness after mandibular angle osteotomy to evaluate the safety of the procedure. Data from patients who underwent mandibular angle osteotomy with outer cortex grinding between January 2016 and January 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative and long-term follow-up (~1 y) computed tomography data were collected from these patients, and morphological changes in the TMJ and masseter muscle were analyzed. The results from the computed tomography data showed that the condylar length and condylar height were significantly reduced 1 year after the operation (P < 0.05). In addition, the morphology of the TMJ was stable, and the distance between the mandibular condyle and the glenoid fossa did not change significantly. No significant difference was observed in masseter muscle thickness before and after the operation. After mandibular angle osteotomy with outer cortex grinding, the length and height of the mandibular condyle were functionally restored without any disorders of the TMJ. Moreover, the masseter muscle exhibited stable function. In conclusion, the procedure is safe for occlusal function and suitable for popularization.

Abstract Existing research has suggested a predominantly negative view of dependency-oriented help. In contrast, the current research aims to test the positive function of dependency-oriented help in intimate relationships where interpersonal dependency is valued. We hypothesized that dependency-oriented help-seeking could function in communicating liking and romantic interests and, therefore, can be instrumental in attracting mates. Our hypothesis was confirmed across nine studies (
