Abstract Background: Jian Yun Qing Hua Decoction (JYQHD), a traditional Chinese medicine decoction, which has been applied in the treatment of gastric cancer (GC). We attempt to confirm the anti-gastric cancer effect of JYQHD and explore the mechanism of JYQHD.
Methods: Acute toxicity test was used to understand the toxicity of JYQHD. We studied the expression and prognostic outcome of COL12A1 within GC tissues through the network databases. Using several web-based databases, we analyzed the major components and targets of JYQHD, as well as known therapeutic targets in gastric cancer. The Venn diagram was utilized to obtain the overlapped genes. Lentiviral vector, shRNAs and plasmids, were used to transfect GC cells. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK8), sphere formation, malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), reactive oxygen species (ROS), Fe
Results: The results showed that JYQHD was non-toxic and safe. JYQHD inhibited growth and sphere formation ability through inducing the ferroptosis of GC cells, and suppressed the GC cells induced subcutaneous xenograft tumor growth. COL12A1 was highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues, indicating poor prognosis. COL12A1 specifically enhanced GC cell progression and stemness via suppressing ferroptosis. JYQHD down-regulated COL12A1 in order to suppress the stemness of GC cells via inducing ferroptosis.
Conclusion: COL12A1 inhibited ferroptosis and enhanced stemness in GC cells. JYQHD inhibited the development of GC cells by inhibiting cancer cell stemness via the ferroptosis pathway mediated by COL12A1.

Abstract The aim of research is to unveil the mechanisms of the beneficial effects of XYD on PCIV in a rabbit model. 40 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 5 groups, including normal control group (NC), model control group (MC), low-dose of XYD group (LXYD), high-dose of XYD group (HXYD) and Yang-Xue-Qin-Nao group (YXQN). PCIV rabbit model was established by feeding high-fat diet companied with paravertebral sclerotherapy and rotation exercise. The general observation, step-down test, rheoencephalogram, blood tests, histopathological detection and the plasma concentration of the effective component of XYD were investigated. After pharmacological intervening, the step-down time, REG, PL, IPL, blood viscosity, the levels of blood lipids, CRGP were significantly improved. Moreover, the vertebral artery showed the reduced stenosis of arterial lumen and less proliferation of fibrous tissue in the arterial wall in the LXYD, HXYD and YXQN group. Based on the LC-MS detection, the blood concentrations of puerarin in the LXYD and HXYD group were significantly increased after pharmacological intervening. XYD could ameliorate the symptoms of vertigo, Qi-deficiency and blood stasis in PCIV rabbits via effectively regulating the levels of blood lipids and vasoactive substances, decreasing blood viscosity, increasing CBF and protecting vestibular function.

Abstract: ... years. Studies have shown that bu-shen-zhu-yun decoction (BSZY-D) can lower the expression of estrogen ...

Abstract Luteal phase defects (LPD) are an important etiology of infertility which has increased in recent years. Studies have shown that bu-shen-zhu-yun decoction (BSZY-D) can lower the expression of estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor, in rats endometrium of embryonic implantation period, which upregulated by mifepristone, and improve uterine receptivity. The aim of present study was to determine the effect of BSZY-D on the synthesis and secretion of gonadotropic hormones in the anterior pituitary cells of rats. Rats were treated with saline (control) or BSZY-D two times/day for three estrous cycles by gavage. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were collected for further cell treatment. The components in BSZY-D, serum and CSF were analysed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Cells were either pretreated with normal CSF or BSZY-D/CSF before being stimulated with or without cetrorelix. The mRNA and proteins levels of receptors, hormones, and transcription factors were detected by RT-PCR, western blot analysis and immunostaining. We show that non-toxic concentrations of cetrorelix, a GnRH antagonist, can reduce the mRNA and protein levels of GnRHR, LH, and FSH. This effect could be reversed by the addition of BSZY-D/CSF. We also show decreased mRNA and protein expression of transcription factors, such as CREB, and Egr-1 and secretory vescicles, including SNAP-25 and Munc-18 upon treatment with cetrorelix could be reversed post co-treatment with BSZY-D/CSF. These results indicate that BSZY-D/CSF treatment led to increased levels of GnRHR, transcription factors, and secretory vesicles leading to increased secretion of FSH and LH. Thus, BSZY-D presents a promising candidate to treat luteal phase defects and infertility.

Abstract Background and aim: Functional constipation is a common functional bowel disorder for which there is no reliable medical treatment. This study was designed to determine the therapeutic efficacy and safety of the Yun-chang capsule, a Chinese herbal formula, in the treatment of patients with functional constipation.
Methods: In our multi-center, prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, dose-escalation trial, patients with functional constipation received 70 mg of Yun-chang capsule plus 35 mg placebo (group A), 105 mg of Yun-chang capsule (group B), or 105 mg placebo (group C), three times daily for 2 weeks. The primary end-points were the changes in main symptom score and cumulative symptom score 2 weeks after the treatment. The secondary end-points were adverse events.
Results: A total of 140 patients were recruited and 132 met the inclusion criteria; 44 patients constituted each of the three treatment groups. Compared with patients in group C, patients in groups A and B had significant improvement in the main symptom score, cumulative symptom score, the change from baseline of the main symptom score, and the change from baseline of the cumulative symptom score at week 1 and week 2. The scores showed slight superiority of group B over group A at week 1 and week 2, although these differences were not statistically significant. There were no differences in adverse events.
Conclusions: The Yun-chang capsule is efficacious and safe for the treatment of patients with functional constipation. Larger and longer-term trials are required to fully assess the benefits and safety of this treatment for functional constipation.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the diversity of germplasm resources of Artemisia annua and provide the basis for improving utilization of germplasm resources, the agronomic traits of germplasm resources of A. annua were studied in Yun-Gui plateau.
Method: The agronomic traits of 67 A. annua germplasm resources were measured by the visual observation and measurement methods. And the germplasm resources were clustered using flexible-beta method to analysis their genetic background.
Result: The result showed that 67 germplasm resources had a relatively wide variation on the 22 agronomic traits. Among 22 agronomic traits, the dry weight of branch had the greatest coefficient of variation, which was 53. 63, and the next were the dry weight of leaf, total plant weight, the length of pinnules and the length of leaflet, which were 42.74, 41.61, 39.54 and 39.22 respectively. The smallest coefficient of variation was the leaf corlor. Based the result of cluster analysis, these 67 germplasm resources were classed into 5 groups, and each group had its respective character. The first group showed early-maturing resources, dwarf stalk, slender rod, long bipinnata, high leaf-stem ratio and moderate leaf weight The third group showed late-maturing resources, tall and thick stalk, much-branch, bushy accessory pinna, high leaf weight and yield. The fifth group showed very late-maturing resources, strong lateral shoot, high leaf yield.
Conclusion: There were significant genetic difference and diversity in the germplasm resources of A. annua. The result of cluster analysis showed that the resources of group 1, group 3 and group 5 were suitable as breeding material of A. annua.

Abstract High content of expansive clay minerals coupled with exposure to moisture content fluctuations, is known to cause alternate swelling and shrinkage of soils. Typically, this phenomenon causes deformation and failure of structures that are constructed on such soils. The design and implementation of countermeasures against slope failures and associated failures of structural foundations in field scenarios in which expansive soils are exposed require an integrated analysis of the soil mineralogical structural characteristics and stratification, site topography and the orientation of structures relative to the unstable soil beds. In this combined field and laboratory study, it has been found that mantling of ridge tops by expansive clay soils in Yun County, China, makes buildings sited therein, more susceptible to settlement and structural damage than on the slopes and valley floor where sandstone and gravelly rock pose limited volume change risks. This investigation shows that topography of the ridge-and-gully and engineering properties of expansive soils are two significant determinants of the severity of slope failure, and the engineering measures taken in the past 25years have been validated to be cost-effective for controlling slope failures in Yun County, China.

Abstract Data on the quality of groundwater obtained from several multi-level monitoring wells indicated that arsenic (As) concentration far exceeds the drinking water supply standard in the coastal aquifer of the Yun-Lin, Taiwan. In this study, an estimated As probability risk was computed using indicator kriging to assess the As contamination potential of exceeding the drinking water supply standard in the Yun-Lin county. A three-dimensional (3D) spatial variability model was presented to analyze anisotropically the variation of As concentration using a multi-level threshold indicator variable. This 3D estimator overcomes the scarcity of the data and establishes a vertical correlation of measured As data. The results indicate high As pollution probability in the coastal area and in the Pei-Kang river basin. The highest probability, 0.92, of the As pollution is in the shallow aquifer of the Kou-Hu. The contamination potential of As is primarily within an aquifer depth of 180 m. The contaminated aquifer (<180 m) is not suitable for supplying drinking water. The contamination potential of As is low at the depths of more than 190 m. However, the probabilities associated with the As pollution still exceed 0.2 in the deep aquifer of four coastal townships of the Yun-Lin, and may pose risks to human health if the groundwater is used for drinking.
