Abstract Thyroid cancer (TC) is a relatively prevalent endocrine tumor among women, the incidence of which is rapidly rising. In this present study, we aimed to provide new therapeutic targets from the aspect of transcription factor-target gene interaction. TP63 and KRT17 were both highly expressed in TC tissues and cells. The results of ChIP and dual-luciferase assays confirmed TP63 to bind the KRT17 promoter. Cell function assays revealed that knockdown of TP63 could repress TC cell progression. Furthermore, the rescue assay verified that TP63 could facilitate KRT17 expression to activate the AKT signaling pathway, which in turn stimulated TC cell invasion and migration, and induced EMT. All these results verified that TP63 facilitates TC malignant progression by promoting KRT17 expression and inducing EMT.

Abstract Flexible and stretchable electronic yarn containing electronic components (i.e., hybrid electronic yarn) are essential for manufacturing smart textile garments or fabrics. Due to their low stretchability and easy interconnection fracture, previously reported hybrid electronic sensing yarns have poor mechanical durability and washability. In order to address this issue, a stretchable hybrid electronic yarn for body temperature monitoring was designed and prepared using a spandex filament as the core yarn and a thin enameled copper wire connected with a thermal resistor as the wrapping fiber. The temperature sensing performance of different hybrid electronic yarn samples was evaluated using the following three types of interconnection methods: conductive adhesive bonding, melt soldering, and hot pressure bonding. The optimal interconnection method with good sensing performance was determined. Furthermore, in order to improve the mechanical durability of the hybrid electronic yarn made using the optimal interconnection method, the interconnection area was encapsulated with polymers, and the effect of polymer materials and structures on the temperature-sensing properties was evaluated. The results show that traditional wrapping combined with hot pressing interconnection followed by tube encapsulating technology is beneficial for achieving high stretchability and good temperature-sensing performance of hybrid electronic yarn.

Abstract In recent years, corneal refractive surgery has been widely used in clinics as an effective means to restore vision and improve the quality of life. When choosing myopia-refractive surgery, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the differences in equipment and technology as well as the specificity of individual patients, which heavily depend on the experience of ophthalmologists. In our study, we took advantage of machine learning to learn about the experience of ophthalmologists in decision-making and assist them in the choice of corneal refractive surgery in a new case. Our study was based on the clinical data of 7,081 patients who underwent corneal refractive surgery between 2000 and 2017 at the Department of Ophthalmology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Due to the long data period, there were data losses and errors in this dataset. First, we cleaned the data and deleted the samples of key data loss. Then, patients were divided into three groups according to the type of surgery, after which we used SMOTE technology to eliminate imbalance between groups. Six statistical machine learning models, including NBM, RF, AdaBoost, XGBoost, BP neural network, and DBN were selected, and a ten-fold cross-validation and grid search were used to determine the optimal hyperparameters for better performance. When tested on the dataset, the multi-class RF model showed the best performance, with agreement with ophthalmologist decisions as high as 0.8775 and Macro F1 as high as 0.8019. Furthermore, the results of the feature importance analysis based on the SHAP technique were consistent with an ophthalmologist's practical experience. Our research will assist ophthalmologists in choosing appropriate types of refractive surgery and will have beneficial clinical effects.

Abstract Based on first-principles calculations, the current study deeply explores the thermoelectric properties of the Zintl compound SrPdTe. We found that the anharmonic vibration of Pd atoms plays an important role in the quartic anharmonic effect and the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity. In the crystalline structure, Sr atoms form octahedra with eight surrounding Te atoms, while Pd atoms are located in the gaps between the octahedra. This structure makes the strong atomic mean square displacement of Pd atoms the main factor leading to the ultralow thermal conductivity. The study also reveals the effects of phonon frequency renormalization and four-phonon scattering on heat transfer performance. Even considering the spin-orbit coupling effect, multiple secondary valence band tops maintain the power factor of the material at high temperatures, providing a potential opportunity for achieving excellent thermoelectric performance.

Abstract Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have demonstrated versatile application potential since their discovery. Although the structure of COFs is orderly arranged, the synthesis of controllable macrostructures still faces challenges. Herein, we report, to our knowledge, the first template-free self-assembled COF-18 Å hollow microtubule (MT-COF-18 Å) structure and its use for insulin delivery that exhibits high loading capacity, gastroresistance, and glucose-responsive properties. The hollow MT-COF-18 Å was achieved by a template-free method benefiting from the mixed solvents of mesitylene and dioxane. The formation mechanism and morphology changes with insulin loading and release were observed. In Caco-2 cells, the transferrin-coated system demonstrated enhanced insulin cellular uptake and transcellular transport, which indicated great potential for oral applications. Additionally, the composites presented sustained glycemic control and effective insulin blood concentrations without noticeable toxicity in diabetic rats. This work shows that hollow microtubular COFs hold great promise in loading and delivery of biomolecules.

Abstract Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is an uncommon syndrome in exertional rhabdomyolysis. We herein report a case of rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury after intense exercise. The patient also had generalized hypertension, headache, and painless complete loss of vision in both eyes, which was consistent with the symptoms of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome detected by magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. The patient fully recovered through active fluid replacement, diuresis, blood pressure control, alkalization of urine and blood purification, and supportive measures. This case report describes an infrequent neurological complication of exertional rhabdomyolysis. Understanding the range of complications is critical for improving patient outcomes.

Abstract Human-derived lysozyme is a general term for a group of naturally occurring alkaline proteins in the human body that are capable of lysing bacterial cell walls. Its action is characterized by its ability to cleave the β-(1,4)-glycosidic bond between N-acetylglucosamine and N-acetylmuramic acid in peptidoglycan. Human-derived lysozyme has a variety of properties such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and immune enhancing, and is therefore widely used in the domestic and international pharmaceutical markets. This review summarizes the structural features, expression sites, biological functions of human-derived lysozymes and its market applications.
