Abstract Background: Neonatal serum creatinine (n-sCr) concentrations during the first few days of life have been reported to correlate with the maternal serum Cr (m-sCr) concentrations. We aimed to derive a regression equation to describe the relationship between n-sCr within 24 h of birth in preterm neonates and m-sCr before delivery, and to perform multiple regression analysis to identify factors related to n-sCr and the difference between n-sCr and m-sCr.
Methods: We recruited preterm neonates who were treated at the University of the Ryukyus Hospital between March 2012 and October 2022. Patients with underlying diseases or conditions that might affect hemodynamics were excluded, as were patients whose n-sCr and m-sCr were not measured in pairs. A total of 278 cases were included in the analysis.
    Results: The median (interquartile range) gestational age, birth weight, n-sCr, and m-sCr were 33.9 weeks (32.0-35.1 weeks), 1901 g (1579-2284 g), 0.55 mg/dL (0.48-0.64 mg/dL), and 0.47 mg/dL (0.42-0.57 mg/dL), respectively. The regression equation derived was n-sCr = 0.092 + 0.970 × m-sCr (R
Conclusions: We have obtained an approximate equation of n-sCr = 0.1 + m-sCr for preterm neonates. In addition, the high PW/BW ration may reduce the difference between n-sCr and m-sCr.

Abstract Purpose: To determine the beneficial effects of knee extension exercise applied from 4 h after TKA.
Methods: Patients undergoing TKA for osteoarthritis were assigned to early rehabilitation (n = 41) and control rehabilitation (n = 39) groups. Rehabilitation of knee extension exercise was started within 4 h postoperative in the early group and 2 days after surgery in the control group. Joint range of motion and pain were assessed before surgery and at 3 days to 12 months after surgery. Muscle strength and gait parameters were assessed before and 3 weeks after surgery.
Results: Extension range of motion was significantly increased in the early group than the control at 3 days, 3 weeks and 6 months after surgery. In gait parameters, peak knee flexion and extension angles during stance phase were significantly improved in the early group than the control group at 3 weeks after surgery. Flexion range of motion was increased in the early group than the control at 12 months after surgery.
Conclusion: Starting knee extension exercise within 4 h after TKA reduced the early loss of extension range of motion and improved gait pattern and seemed to contribute to be better functional outcome one year after surgery.

Abstract C-H trifluoromethanesulfonyloxylation (triflation) of 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (BINOL) derivatives has been established under mild conditions using 1,3-diiodo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DIH) and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TfOH). Up to eight TfO groups can be introduced in a single operation. The resulting highly oxidized BINOL derivatives can be successfully converted to 8,8'-dihydroxy BINOL and bisnaphthoquinone compounds. Mechanistic studies suggested that C-H triflation occurs in the form of an aromatic substitution reaction via the in situ formation of a radical cation.

Abstract We investigated the possibility of superconductivity in monolayer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) doped using group-1 (Li, Na, K) and group-2 (Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) atoms via ab initio calculations. Consequently, we reveal that Sr- and Ba-doped monolayer h-BN and Ca-doped monolayer h-BN with 3.5% tensile strain are energetically stable and become superconductors with superconducting transition temperature (Tc) values of 5.83, 1.53, and 10.7 K, respectively, which are considerably higher than those of Ca-, Sr-, and Ba-doped graphene. In addition, the momentum-resolved electron-phonon coupling (EPC) constant shows that the scattering among intrinsic π* electrons around the Γ point governs Tc. The scattering process is mediated by the low-energy vibration of the adsorbate. Moreover, compared with graphene, the stronger adsorbate-substrate interaction and lower symmetry in h-BN are critical for enhancing the EPC in doped h-BN.

Abstract The genetic diversity of freshwater Hildenbrandia species (Florideophyceae, Hildenbrandiales) from Japan was reassessed based on specimens collected from Kagoshima (Kyushu), Hyogo and Kanagawa Prefectures (Honshu), using rbcL and 18S rDNA sequences. Phylogenetic results suggested the occurrence of only one species of freshwater Hildenbrandia in Japan, H. japananensis. The clade H. jigongshanensis–H. japananensis is sister to H. rivularis. Hildenbrandia angolensis was paraphyletic and positioned basally among the freshwater Hildenbrandia clades. Furthermore, the genetic similarity between H. jigongshanensis and H. japananensis determined by rbcL and 18S sequences as well as the intraspecific morphological plasticity led us to the conclusion that the species from China and Japan were conspecific. Accordingly, we propose the taxonomic lumping of H. jigongshanensis and H. japananensis. In addition, we recommend additional molecular and morphological studies on Asian freshwater Hildenbrandia to determine whether H. jigongshanensis is conspecific with H. ramanaginae previously described from India.
