    Abstract In recent times, the high demand for flexible and wearable pressure sensors to monitor human health, particularly for patients afflicted with hypertension or high blood pressure (BP), has captured the keen interest of researchers. Capacitance-based flexible sensing devices offer real-time metrics regarding vital physiological parameters of the human body, such as BP and pulse rate (PR), thereby enabling the identification of cardiovascular complications. In this regard, we have developed a capacitive pressure sensor using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and deionized water (DIW) and improved its key parameters by adding baking powder to PDMS-DIW.     Abstract In the present global context, continuous blood pressure (BP) monitoring is paramount in addressing the global mortality rates attributed to hypertension. Achieving precise insights into the human cardiovascular system necessitates accurate measurement of BP, and the accuracy depends on the faithful recording of oscillations or pulsations. This task ultimately depends on the caliber of the pressure sensor embedded in the BP device. In this context, we have fabricated a flexible resistive pressure sensor based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) sponge that is highly flexible and sensitive. The designed device operates effectively with a minimal bias voltage of 500 mV, at which point it showed its maximum relative change in current, reaching approximately 25%. Additionally, the sensing device showed a notable change in resistance values, exhibiting almost 100% change in resistance when subjected to a pressure of 400 mmHg and high sensitivity of 0.27 mmHg

    Abstract Objectives: To establish neonatal pain management practices as an essential developmental supportive measure at a tertiary care unit.
    Methods: This quality improvement initiative was conducted as per Point-of-Care-Quality-Improvement Model over 6 mo, followed by 2 y of sustenance phase at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in northern India. Infants of birth weight ≤1800 g were included and assessed for pain. Pain Assessment and Management Practices via Education and Reinforcement (PAMPER) group was created by resident doctors and nursing staff. The Premature Infant Pain Profile score was used for the assessment of pain. Limiting factors were analyzed using a fishbone diagram and interventions were done in multiple Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles.
    Results: At the end of interventions, 100% of procedures were assessed for pain. The mean (standard deviation) documented pain score for the first seven days was reduced from 12.8 (0.3) in the baseline phase to 7 (2.5). These interventions helped to sustain the practice in >70% of infants in the next 2 y.
    Conclusions: Low-cost interventions improved the pain assessment and management policy of authors' NICU with the establishment of a standard protocol. Audits and reinforcement at regular intervals helped in its long-term sustenance.

    Abstract β-Hydroxybutyrate (βOHB) is the major ketone in the body, and it is recognized as a metabolic energy source and an important signaling molecule. While ketone oxidation is essential in the brain during prolonged fasting/starvation, other organs such as skeletal muscle and the heart also use ketones as metabolic substrates. Additionally, βOHB-mediated molecular signaling events occur in heart and skeletal muscle cells, and via metabolism and/or signaling, ketones may contribute to optimal skeletal muscle health and cardiac function. Of importance, when the use of ketones for ATP production and/or as signaling molecules becomes disturbed in the presence of underlying obesity, type 2 diabetes, and/or cardiovascular diseases, these changes may contribute to cardiometabolic disease. As a result of these disturbances in cardiometabolic disease, multiple approaches have been used to elevate circulating ketones with the goal of optimizing either ketone metabolism or ketone-mediated signaling. These approaches have produced significant improvements in heart and skeletal muscle during cardiometabolic disease with a wide range of benefits that include improved metabolism, weight loss, better glycemic control, improved cardiac and vascular function, as well as reduced inflammation and oxidative stress. Herein, we present the evidence that indicates that ketone therapy could be used as an approach to help treat cardiometabolic diseases by targeting cardiac and skeletal muscles.

    Abstract Epilepsy is caused by an excessive recurrent excitatory neuronal firing, characterized by motor, psychomotor, and sensory impairments. Current therapies fail to produce 100% outcomes because of the complexity of the disease, poor diagnosis, and upsurge to drug-resistant epilepsy. The study repurposed the drug 'noscapine' mainly known for its anti-tussive properties. For the management of epilepsy and its associated secondary complications. To confirm the effect of noscapine, adult mice were injected with pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) (35 mg/kg i.p.) on an alternate day for 29 days to induce epilepsy. Animals were pretreated with noscapine in three doses (5, 10, and 20 mg/kg i.p.) for 33 days. Various behavioural assessments like the open field test, Morris water maze, and tail suspension test were performed to observe animals' locomotor activity, spatial memory, and anxiety-depressive behaviour. On the 34th day, animals were sacrificed, and brains were removed for biochemical estimations. Prolonged PTZ treatment reduced locomotor, learning activity, and increased anxiety-depressive behaviour, which was further confirmed by reduced antioxidant levels such as reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase because of increased oxido-nitrosative stress, that is, malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitrite in the brain. In comparison, noscapine pretreatment attenuated PTZ-induced behavioural and biochemical changes in the animals. The results indicate that noscapine ameliorates the oxido-nitrosative stress. However, studies indicate that oxido-nitrosative stress is a significant concern for the GABAergic neurons and promotes the disease progression. Further studies are required to explore the molecular mechanism of noscapine, which might be a practical approach as a newer antiepileptic agent.

    Abstract Background The survivors of the 1984 Bhopal gas disaster frequently express concern of them being at higher risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD) as a consequence of the long-term health effects of gas exposure. We aimed to estimate the prevalence of CKD among the survivors of severely gas-exposed cohort assembled in 1985 after the Bhopal gas disaster to study the long-term health consequences of gas exposure. Methods We did this cross-sectional study with a sample size of 215 systematically selected participants among the severely gas-exposed survivors in Bhopal to estimate the prevalence of CKD. Sociodemographic and relevant past medical history of the participants was obtained using a semi-structured questionnaire and their blood and urine samples were collected. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated using the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease equation. Those found with reduced e-GFR and proteinuria, suggestive of CKD, were further surveyed after 3 months to differentiate CKD from acute renal damage. Results The prevalence of CKD among the severely gas-exposed cohort survivors in Bhopal was 16.7%. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that body mass index and level of education were significant predictors of CKD. Conclusion The prevalence of CKD among the severely exposed survivors of Bhopal was at par with the national prevalence, putting at rest the apprehension of gas-exposed survivors of being at higher risk of developing CKD.

    Abstract Automatic summarization of legal case judgments is a practically important problem that has attracted substantial research efforts in many countries. In the context of the Indian judiciary, there is an additional complexity -- Indian legal case judgments are mostly written in complex English, but a significant portion of India's population lacks command of the English language. Hence, it is crucial to summarize the legal documents in Indian languages to ensure equitable access to justice. While prior research primarily focuses on summarizing legal case judgments in their source languages, this study presents a pioneering effort toward cross-lingual summarization of English legal documents into Hindi, the most frequently spoken Indian language. We construct the first high-quality legal corpus comprising of 3,122 case judgments from prominent Indian courts in English, along with their summaries in both English and Hindi, drafted by legal practitioners. We benchmark the performance of several diverse summarization approaches on our corpus and demonstrate the need for further research in cross-lingual summarization in the legal domain.

    Abstract Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) is a method of providing nutrients directly into the bloodstream for individuals who are unable to meet their nutritional needs through the normal digestive process or gastrointestinal system. It provides macronutrients and micronutrients in a single container, reducing handling and contamination risks and making it more cost-effective. TPN has the potential to be used as a drug delivery system, with applications in combination therapies, personalized medicine, and integrating advanced technologies. It can enhance drug dosage precision and provide nutritional assistance, potentially reducing hospitalization and improving patient outcomes. However, implementing new applications requires thorough testing and regulatory approval. TPN could be particularly useful in pediatric and geriatric care and could also contribute to global health by combating malnutrition in areas with limited medical resources. Healthcare professionals prepare a sterile solution tailored to each patient's nutritional needs, and administration involves a central venous catheter. However, the simultaneous administration of medications with PN admixtures can result in pharmacological incompatibility, which can impact the stability of the oil-in-water system. The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition recommendations advise against including non-nutrient drugs in PN admixtures due to safety concerns. This review focuses on the utilization of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) as a method for delivering drugs. It discusses the benefits and difficulties associated with its commercial application and offers suggestions for future research endeavors.

    Abstract Scalp psoriasis is a common manifestation of psoriasis that significantly impacts a patient's quality of life. About 80% of cases of psoriasis involve the scalp, making it the most frequently affected area of the body. The treatment of scalp psoriasis is particularly crucial because of its hard-to-treat nature and substantial adverse impacts on overall well-being. Along with the physical symptoms of discomfort and itching, psoriasis, especially when it affects the scalp, can cause severe psychological damage. Treating scalp psoriasis can be challenging due to its location and associated symptoms, such as scaling and pruritus, which is why various drugs have become widely used for refractory cases. Topical treatments like corticosteroids and vitamin D analogs manage scalp psoriasis by reducing inflammation and regulating skin cell growth. Tar-based shampoos, salicylic acid solutions, and moisturizers control scaling. Phototherapy with UVB light reduces inflammation. Severe cases may require systemic medications such as oral retinoids and immunosuppressants. While various therapies are accessible for scalp psoriasis, concerns arise due to their limited advantages and the absence of controlled studies assessing their effectiveness. Considering these challenges, there is a clear demand for innovative approaches to address this condition effectively. Recent advancements in topical therapies, phototherapy, systemic agents, and complementary therapies have shown promising results in managing scalp psoriasis. Also, the advent of biologics, specifically anti-IL-17 and anti-IL-23 drugs for scalp psoriasis, has seen significant improvements. The review highlights the lack of well-tolerated and effective treatments for scalp psoriasis and underscores the importance of further research in this area. The objective of this review is to clarify the different treatment options currently available or being investigated in clinical trials for managing scalp psoriasis.
