Abstract Background: ADHD is widely recognized as the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder in children. Recently, the potential role of gut microbiota as an etiological factor in ADHD has gained attention. This systematic review aims to investigate the potential impact of probiotic supplements on alleviating ADHD symptoms and influencing behavior.
Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and SCOPUS were searched from inception to May 2023. Only randomized controlled trials that have suitable data of the effects of probiotics/synbiotics on children with ADHD were enrolled. The risk of bias of the included studies was assessed by Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool.
Results: Five related randomized controlled trial were evaluated in the current review. Types of interventions ranged from single/multi strain probiotics to synbiotic. The duration of intervention in all of the studies were 2 to 3 months. The assessed outcomes were very diverse and different tools were used to report the symptoms in children. Among those which used Conners' Parent Rating Scale, a decrease in the total score occurred in the probiotic group, compared to the placebo group. An improvement in both intervention and control groups was seen in one study which used ADHD-Rating Scale.
Conclusion: In summary, the combined findings from the reviewed studies suggest that probiotic supplements might potentially serve as a complementary intervention for ADHD. However, given the small number of studies, limited sample sizes, and the diversity of probiotic strains, further research is needed to clarify the effects of probiotics in children with ADHD. The observed tolerability of probiotics is noteworthy as none of the studies report adverse effects.

Abstract Purpose: Medical education requires competent faculty members with the ability to create change in medical education. The focus on teacher competency are emerged as the results of medical education movements toward learner competency. The purpose of this study was to identify medical faculties competencies in their main roles and to provide a competency framework.
Method: The integrative review approach was utilized for identifying competencies and expert opinions was conducted to assigned competencies to roles and academic ranks. The search strategies were conducted in online databases including PubMed, Scopus, WOS and Eric to detect studies published from May 2003 to May 2023.
Results: The identified competencies were classified to four themes including (1) essential personal competencies, (2) technical/functional competencies, (3) enabling competencies, and (4) meta-competencies.
Conclusion: According to the results, a competency framework was proposed which is a valuable tool for various important decisions related to faculty, such as promotions and tenurship.

Abstract To the best of our knowledge, aspirin (ASA) is known as a commonly used medication worldwide. Although the cardiovascular aspects of ASA are well-established, recently, it has been identified that ASA can yield multiple extra-cardiovascular therapeutic potencies in facing neurodegenerative disorders, various cancers, inflammatory responses, and the COVID-19 pandemic. In this review, we aimed to highlight the proven role of ASA administration in the variety of non-cardiovascular diseases, particularly in the field of anesthesiology.

Abstract Introduction: This study was performed to determine the clinical outcomes of patients with mild symptoms of COVID-19 discharged from the emergency department.
Methods: The present descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was performed on 400 patients discharged with a diagnosis of COVID-19 from the emergency departments of hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in the time period of 21 March-21 June, 2020. The disease characteristics and demographic data were collected by phone calls during the first, third, and fourth weeks using a researcher-made questionnaire. Finally, the data were analyzed by univariate logistic regression and cross-tabulation using the IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 20.
Results: In the first week of follow-up, 23(5.8%) patients died, of whom seven patients were female and 16 were male (mean age of death: 70.73±3.27). Out of 41 (10.3%) patients with underlying diseases, 7 (17.1%) died; but out of 359 (89.8%) cases with no history of disease only 16 (4.5%) died. The risk of death in subjects with a history of underlying diseases was 3.27 times higher than those without a history of disease (P = 0.02) (OR = 3.27, 95% CI, 1.20-8.87); and this risk was 1.41 times higher in patients with more family members (P = 0.04) (OR = 1.41, 95% CI, 1.01-1.97). Furthermore, 81 (20.3%) patients had spread the virus to others in their households and disregarded hygiene guidelines such as washing hands, keeping social distancing, and wearing face masks after discharge. In addition, family members of these patients were 16.37 times more likely to be infected than patients who followed the protocols (P ≤ 0.001) (OR = 16.37, 95% CI, 9.10-29.45).
Conclusion: Since our findings showed that mortality rate is high in the first week after patients' referral to the emergency departments, the health status of infected people should be carefully monitored daily in this period.

Abstract Background: One of the complications of laryngoscopy is cardiac dysrhythmia due to an increased QT interval.
Objectives: This study aimed to compare the effect of fentanyl and remifentanil on QTc interval in patients undergoing intubation by the rapid method in 2020.
Methods: In this study, 50 patients without a history of heart disease and without a history of drug use who were candidates for rapid intubation in the emergency department were selected and divided into two groups. Before the injection of intubation drugs, a baseline ECG was obtained from the patient and then randomly assigned to one group of patients with 2 μg/kg fentanyl and the other group with 1 μg/kg remifentanil. Other intubation drugs, including lidocaine, etomidate, and succinylcholine, were fixed in both groups. Immediately after drug injection and immediately after laryngoscopy, ECG was prepared from patients, and the QT interval was calculated.
Results: In group comparison, changes in QT values during the studied time were statistically significant (P = 0.004). However, in the comparison between groups, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups receiving fentanyl and remifentanil (P = 0.235). The results showed that the rate of QT interval changes during three different measurements increased in both groups of patients receiving fentanyl and remifentanil.
Conclusions: In the present study, in comparing the QT interval, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups receiving fentanyl and remifentanil at any of the studied times. Therefore, fentanyl and remifentanil during endotracheal intubation did not have a statistically and clinically significant effect on the QT distance of patients' ECG, and the administration of the above two drugs during intubation was safe.

Abstract In recent years, gully erosion has ceased many development activities and imposed a living threat to local communities residing in southern Iran. Hence, this study sets out to investigate the prediction performance of a machine learning model named the quick, unbiased, efficient statistical tree (QUEST) model for gully susceptibility mapping. Its results were compared to two conventional statistical models: frequency ratio (FR) and evidential belief function (EBF). The area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) and the true skill statistic (TSS) metrics were adopted to assess models' goodness-of-fit and predictive performance in the corresponding training and validation stages. Results revealed that the QUEST model outperforms its counterparts by giving respective AUROC and TSS values of 88.5% and 0.77 in the training stage, followed by EBF (82.3% and 0.65) and FR (80.4% and 0.62). Similarly, the QUEST model showed the highest AUROC and TSS values in the validation stage (83.2% and 0.63, respectively), followed by the EBF (78.6% and 0.63, respectively) and FR (77.1% and 0.58, respectively). Further scrutinization attested that the QUEST model offers a more practical, compendious, and adaptable susceptibility map based on which about 32% of the study area was identified as the high susceptibility zone to gully erosion. Hence, highly gully susceptible areas require pragmatic mitigation plans. In addition, the application of machine learning models for gully erosion merits further studies.
