    Abstract This book offers a new ecosystemic approach to the understanding of mangrove and salt marsh ecosystems. Brazil has one of the largest areas of mangroves in the world, where salt marshes might or might not be associated. Different landscapes comprise the extensive coastline, where mangrove and salt marsh species’ composition is discussed through the analysis of physiography, zonation, and succession processes. Both salt marsh and mangrove plants and the associated macroalgae will be characterized in their ecophysiological and phenological aspects, as well as genetic and epigenetic diversity. The chapters on microbial diversity and litterfall expose the well-known importance of these ecosystems as highly productive carbon sinks and pumps. The associated fauna of invertebrates (benthic meio and macrofaunas, especially brachyuran crabs) and vertebrates (fishes, birds, and mammals) are presented in a special section. The conservational approach encompasses issues, such as historical ecology, economic valuation, protected areas, environmental education, climate changes, and adaptive management.

    Abstract Population growth leads to the need for more efficient techniques and compounds in agriculture, such as pesticides, to deal with the ever-growing demand. Pesticides may end up in the environment, often compromising the ecosystem affecting all organisms including humans. Therefore, the consequences of exposure to these compounds to biota and humans needs to be assessed. Bearing this in mind, the aim of this study was to examine the in vitro cytotoxicity and genotoxicity attributed to exposure to the biopesticide Turex® utilizing the liver cell line HepG2. Cells were incubated with biopesticide Turex® at 250, 500, 1000, 1500 or 2000 μg/L in both non-activated and activated forms for 24 and 48 h. Subsequent effects on cell viability were assessed using the MTT. The influence on cell cycle dynamics was determined by flow cytometry, while DNA damage was measured by the comet assay. Data demonstrated that activated Turex® induced cytotoxicity and DNA damage after 48 h in HepG2 cell line. The cell cycle progression was not markedly affected by Turex® at any concentration or duration of exposure. In conclusion, data demonstrated the potential adverse effects attributed to exposure to biopesticide Turex® in human cell line HepG2. Consequently, this type of biopesticide needs to be further investigated to determine the potential adverse in vivo effects on various non-target organisms.

    Abstract O Curso de Direito da Família nasceu em 1965, pela mão de Francisco Pereira Coelho, com a linguagem rigorosa, elegante e simples do autor. Logo se tornou o instrumento mais completo para apreciar todo o direito matrimonial que o código civil de 1966-7 estava para trazer e que receberia modificações relevantes na Reforma de 1977. Esgotou-se depressa, e passou a circular entre os estudantes em versões policopiadas até 2001, altura em que saiu uma nova edição, em coautoria com Guilherme de Oliveira e beneficiando da colaboração de Rui Moura Ramos. Guilherme de Oliveira é o responsável pelas opções científicas desta quinta edição do volume I (direito matrimonial), com exceção do capítulo V; e pelos textos presentes nas abas. O livro abre com uma introdução extensa, que inclui o regime da união de facto; apresenta o casamento como ato, dedicando-se principalmente ao casamento civil, embora sem deixar de expor os traços fundamentais da formação do casamento católico; ocupa-se dos efeitos pessoais e dos efeitos patrimoniais do matrimónio; trata do regime da extinção do casamento, sobretudo por divórcio; termina com o estudo da aplicação do direito internacional e do direito da União Europeia, através da colaboração especializada de Rui Moura Ramos. Se é verdade que "o mundo mudou" e "todos mudámos com o mundo" (prefácio da 2.ª ed.), oxalá se possa encontrar sempre, nas edições sucessivas, ao menos uma boa parte do nível científico e didático que Francisco Pereira Coelho imprimiu
