Abstract Glucose toxicity is central to the myriad complications of diabetes and is now believed to encompass neurodegenerative diseases and cancer as well as microvascular and macrovascular disease. Due to the widespread benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors, which affect glucose uptake in the kidney proximal tubular cell, a focus on cell metabolism in response to glucose has important implications for overall health. We previously found that a -Warburg-type effect underlies diabetic kidney disease and involves metabolic reprogramming. This is now supported by quantitative measurements of superoxide measurement in the diabetic kidney and systems biology analysis of urine metabolites in patients. Further exploration of mechanisms underlying mediators of mitochondrial suppression will be critical in understanding the chronology of glucose-induced toxicity and developing new therapeutics to arrest the systemic glucose toxicity of diabetes.

Abstract The passive soil arching effect exists in many soil-grille interaction systems. Increasing mental grillage foundations are used for transmission lines in aeolian sand areas; thus, exploring the evolution mechanism of passive soil arching is crucial. This study investigates the evolution and influencing factors of passive soil arching through a series of tests using a trapdoor device and particle image velocimetry (PIV). The test results show that the evolution of the arching structure causes the aeolian sand deformation to gradually extend to the backfill surface and stationary zone, generating two triangular arching surfaces between the movable beams and sliding surface at the junction of the active and stationary zones. Cracks in the arching and sliding surfaces were connected to form a W-shaped shear band. The development of the soil pressure was divided into four arching structure stages. The different stages of the inner and outer arches of the bearing characteristics had strong differences. Taking the appearance of the first arch surface as the time point, the soil pressure changes abruptly and the inner and outer arches alternate to bear the as a major role. The beam spacing significantly affected the arching evolution. A smaller beam spacing formed an initial bending configuration with an inconspicuous arching structure and incomplete shear band. As the beam spacing increased, the arching shape changed from triangular to parabolic, sudden changes in the soil pressure were more pronounced, and the arch height increased. The relative density and water content had little impact on the arch shape and shear zone but significantly affected the arching strength, soil pressure transfer, and arching height. The medium and high relative densities and low water contents resulted in a stronger arching structure and greater arching height, while low relative densities and high water contents weakened the soil pressure transfer. The range values for the optimum beam spacing, relative density, and water contents are given based on the variation characteristics of the evaluated parameters (

Abstract This article establishes a circuit model with which to analyze the difficulty of auto-gain control driving for low-Q micromechanical gyroscopes at room temperature and normal pressure. It also proposes a driving circuit based on frequency modulation to eliminate the same-frequency coupling between the drive signal and displacement signal using a second harmonic demodulation circuit. The results of the simulation indicate that a closed-loop driving circuit system based on the frequency modulation principle can be established within 200 ms with a stable average frequency of 4504 Hz and a frequency deviation of 1 Hz. After the system was stabilized, the root mean square of the simulation data was taken, and the frequency jitter was 0.0221 Hz.

Abstract Profound understanding on the diversity of local residents’ willingness to pay (WTP) for ecosystem services (ESs) may aid evaluation of policy impacts by uncovering trade-offs and synergies for achieving sustainable environmental resource management. However, the reasons for the spatial preference heterogeneity of WTP are still unclear. In this study, an extensive survey with 4,580 residents in the Yangtze River Middle Reaches Megalopolis (YRMRM), central China, was carried out to investigate the public’s WTP to maintain and improve ESs. We identified key influencing factors and explored how they shaped the preference heterogeneity in WTP by random forest model and surface fitting method. Our results showed that 81.4% of residents reported WTP for ESs greater than zero. Water supply, waste treatment, food supply and raw material supply were the preferred ESs for residents. Living environment factors (i.e., extent of farmland, water and forest near the residence) were found as the key drivers of WTP. Proximity to farmland, water and forests resulted in high WTP values for a series of specific ESs. The reasons for the heterogeneity of WTP are (1) the difference in proximity to farmland, water and forest (i.e., the contributor to ESs), (2) the divergence of local residents’ preferences for ESs. This study disclosed the heterogeneity and causes of public preferences in YRMRM, which could help policy and decision makers to develop eco-compensation initiatives towards conservative and sustainable use of the environmental resources.

Abstract Polymer waveguide devices have attracted increasing interest in several rapidly developing areas of broadband communications since they are easily adaptable to on-chip integration and promise low propagation losses. As a key member of the waveguide gain medium, lanthanide doped nanoparticles have been intensively studied to improve the downconversion luminescence. However, current research efforts are almost confined to erbium-doped nanoparticles and amplifiers operating at the C-band; boosting the downconversion luminescence of Tm

Abstract We propose a strip loaded amplifier employing SU-8 as the loaded waveguide and nanoparticles (NPs)-polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the cladding layer. By leveraging the undoped SU-8 loaded waveguide, the polymer waveguide amplifier accomplished remarkably low transmission losses, reaching as low as 1.8 dB/cm at 1530 nm. We prepared NPs-PMMA nanocomposite by utilizing NaLu
