Abstract Pancreatic tuberculosis (TB) is a rare condition that can be challenging to distinguish from other pancreatic neoplasms. We present the case of a 48-year-old Indian male who complained of persistent vague epigastric pain for two months. Other physicians saw him and treated him like a dyspeptic case. He gave a history of daily alcohol consumption. Routine investigations, including amylase and lipase levels, were within normal limits. However, an abdominal ultrasound revealed a cystic lesion in the body of the pancreas, prompting further investigation. A subsequent abdominal CT scan revealed a tumor of 6x4 cm in diameter with solid and cystic components in the pancreatic body. Although tumor markers were not remarkable, inflammatory markers showed elevated levels of ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) of 95 mm/hr and CRP (C-reactive protein) of 83 mg/L, with normal hemoglobin. Endosonography (EUS) with fine needle aspiration (FNA) was performed to achieve a definitive diagnosis. EUS was performed with a linear echoendoscope, which revealed the mass, which had solid and cystic components. Fluid was aspirated from the cystic part and FNA passes were performed in the solid part. Microscopic examination and aspirated fluid culture confirmed the presence of

Abstract The aim of this work relates to the optimization of a cold formulation of a depilatory emulsion containing thioglycolate of calcium, which presents the same characteristics as a reference product. To lead to this objective, a cubic simplex method was used. A preliminary formulation was preformed to evaluate the influence of each factor on the process formulation. The depilatory creams carried out present a rheological behaviour described by the model of Hershell-Bulkely, whose parameters are considered as responses of the optimizing system. This strategy allows both reducing and optimizing the number of experiments. The rheological measurements and the tests of stability showed that the use of an emulsifying polymer led to obtain a stable depilatory cream with a good effectiveness at a strong pH value.

Abstract This report was aimed to describe the behavioral changes of catfish as observed before two different earthquakes hit the Province of Aceh, Indonesia in year of 2012. A number of 5 African’s catfish (Clarias gariepinus) were placed in an aquarium located in Gapang, Sukakarya Sub-district of Sabang Town, Aceh. Their behavior activities were observed manually at three different times (08.00 AM, 01.00 PM, and 05.00 PM) every day from 1st March up to 11th April 2012. The result of observation showed that the activity of catfish was different between all of them from 1st March 2012 up to morning observation on 11th April 2012. Most of those activities was not showed as very active behavior. However, their behavior was very active in the same pattern when observed at noon and afternoon times on 11 April 2012. On this date, there were two consecutive earthquakes happened at magnitude of >8 Richter Scale at 03.38 PM and 05.43 PM. The epicenter of this earthquake was in Simeulue, with the distance of more and less of 390 km from observation station of catfish in Gapang. It was noted that this abnormal behavior possibly showed as an indication of their ability to detect the increase of pre-seismic activity at 2.38 hours and 43 minutes before the two earthquakes. Perhaps, it is the result of their response to the increase of pre-seismic electromagnetic wave. Further continuous observation and research is needed to ensure the role of African’s catfish (Clarias gariepinus) as abio-sensor for the increase of seismic activity.

Title translation The importance of lipoprotein(a) in pathogenesis of the high risk unstable angina.
Abstract Objective: The aim of this study is to compare lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] levels in patients with low and high risk unstable angina pectoris, which is defined according to the cardiac troponin-I (Tn-I) levels and to investigate their relation with myocardial damage.
Methods: From patients with chest pain; venous blood samples were collected for measuring serum Lp(a) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels on admission and serum cTn-I levels 12 and 24 hours after admission. Fifty-nine patients with serum cTn-I levels <1.0 ng/ml were assigned as negative unstable angina group and 53 patients with serum cTn-I levels >or=1.0 ng/ml were assigned as positive unstable angina groups, respectively. Severity of coronary artery disease was determined by angiography in all patients.
Results: Compared with cTn-I negative group, Lp(a) levels were significantly higher in cTn-I positive group (52.9+/-6.0 mg/dl vs 15.7+/-2.5 mg/dl, p<0.0001). There was a significant correlation between Lp(a) and cTn-I levels (r=0.870, p=0.0001). We could not establish any correlation between Lp(a) levels and Gensini score or between multiple vessel disease and low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (p>0.05). Also, there was no significant difference between cTn-I positive and negative groups with respect to Gensini score (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Increased Lp(a) levels and significant relation between Lp(a) and cTn-I levels support the opinion that Lp(a) can be a risk factor for plaque destabilization and thrombosis rather than severity of coronary artery disease in patients with high risk unstable angina. Furthermore, high levels of Lp(a) may be related with myocardial injury in patients with unstable angina.
