Abstract This work presents a case study in which Cognitive-Integrative psychotherapy was used to treat a patient with obsessive-compulsive disorder with the implementation of routine outcome monitoring (ROM) at Aiglé Foundation in Argentina. The patient, a 34-year-old female with a university degree reports having obsessive ideas about dirt or pollution, causing harm to others, and religious and superstitious topics on a daily basis. The therapeutic process carried out during the first 17 psychotherapy sessions is described: construction of the therapeutic alliance, psychoeducation, and main interventions. The purpose of the article is to describe a case in which the measures' results did not show clinically relevant improvement even though the clinical indicators assessed by the therapist and the patient's subjective evaluation were positive. The article, shows the application of ROM during the supervision process, proposes interpretations of these results, and discusses decision-making processes in the light of this discrepancy.

Abstract The prevalence of obesity has increased considerably in the last few decades. Pathophysiological changes in obese patients lead to pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) alterations that can condition the correct exposure to antimicrobials if standard dosages are used. Inadequate dosing in obese patients can lead to toxicity or therapeutic failure. In recent years, additional antimicrobial PK/PD data, extended infusion strategies, and studies in critically ill patients have made it possible to obtain data to provide a better dosage in obese patients. Despite this, it is usually difficult to find information on drug dosing in this population, which is sometimes contradictory. This is a comprehensive review of the dosing of different types of antimicrobials (antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, and antituberculosis drugs) in obese patients, where the literature on PK and possible dosing strategies in obese adults was critically assessed.

Abstract The Mitochondrial distribution pattern or MDP in mammalian oocytes serves as an indicator of their cytoplasmic maturity, with a heterogeneous pattern associated with mature cytoplasm. Currently, MDP assessment involves fluorescent labelling of mitochondria followed by visual evaluation, as no quantitative method exists. Our objective was to develop a quantitative approach to assess MDP in mature equine oocytes. Equine oocytes, obtained by ovum pick up (OPU) were matured in vitro, and only metaphase II oocytes were used in the study (n = 56). Following denudation, oocytes were fixed, stained with MitoTracker™ Red CMXRos (50 nM in TCM-199 with Hank´s salts and 10% FBS) for 15 min at 38 °C, and then incubated with 2.5 µg/ml Hoechst 33342 for 10 min at 38 °C. Confocal microscope images were acquired, and the oocyte's MDP was visually classified as either homogeneous (HoD; n = 17) or heterogeneous (HeD; n = 39). For quantitative analysis, Fiji-ImageJ software was employed. Background subtraction was performed, and a 1-pixel line along the diameter was drawn to calculate the intensity profile. Fluorescence intensities were normalized, and ratios of peripheral to central fluorescence intensity were determined. Student´s t-test was used for comparations; MDP ratio was (mean ± standard error of the mean): 0.8 ± 0.02 for HoD and 0.3 ± 0.02 for HeD (p < 0.001). These results demonstrate concordance between quantitative and qualitative MDP assessment in mature equine oocytes. Our study describes a new approach to quantify mitochondrial distribution pattern and cytoplasmic maturation in mature equine oocytes.

Abstract Background: In preterm birth germinal matrix hemorrhages (GMHs) and the consequent posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH), the neuroepithelium/ependyma development is disrupted. This work is aimed to explore the possibilities of ependymal repair in GMH/PHH using a combination of neural stem cells, ependymal progenitors (EpPs), and mesenchymal stem cells.
Methods: GMH/PHH was induced in 4-day-old mice using collagenase, blood, or blood serum injections. PHH severity was characterized 2 weeks later using magnetic resonance, immunofluorescence, and protein expression quantification with mass spectrometry. Ependymal restoration and wall regeneration after stem cell treatments were tested in vivo and in an ex vivo experimental approach using ventricular walls from mice developing moderate and severe GMH/PHH. The effect of the GMH environment on EpP differentiation was tested in vitro. Two-tailed Student
Results: PHH severity was correlated with the extension of GMH and ependymal disruption (means, 88.22% severe versus 19.4% moderate). GMH/PHH hindered the survival rates of the transplanted neural stem cells/EpPs. New multiciliated ependymal cells could be generated from transplanted neural stem cells and more efficiently from EpPs (15% mean increase). Blood and TNFα (tumor necrosis factor alpha) negatively affected ciliogenesis in cells committed to ependyma differentiation (expressing Foxj1 [forkhead box J1] transcription factor). Pretreatment with mesenchymal stem cells improved the survival rates of EpPs and ependymal differentiation while reducing the edematous (means, 18% to 0.5% decrease in severe edema) and inflammatory conditions in the explants. The effectiveness of this therapeutical strategy was corroborated in vivo (means, 29% to 0% in severe edema).
Conclusions: In GMH/PHH, the ependyma can be restored and edema decreased from either neural stem cell or EpP transplantation in vitro and in vivo. Mesenchymal stem cell pretreatment improved the success of the ependymal restoration.

Abstract Soils from decommissioned Hg mine sites usually exhibit high levels of total mercury concentration. This work examines the behavior of mercury in the atmosphere on samples of contaminated debris of a demolished metallurgical plant present in La Soterraña mine, Asturias (Spain). Previously, a strong dependence of the Hg gas concentration C max (ng/m 3 ) with the temperature T (K) was determined empirically. Hg gas concentration varied between 6500 ng/m 3 at low temperatures, 278 K (5 °C), and up to almost 60,000 ng/m 3 when the temperature reaches 303 K (30 °C). Then, two different models were proposed to explain the behavior of the mercury emitted from this source. The first model is based on Arrhenius theory. The gas flux per unit area perpendicular to the flow F (g/sm 2 ) is an exponential function of the apparent activation energy E a (J/mol): F = c f exp(-E a /RT). The values of c f = 1.04·10 7 and E a = 48.56 kJ/mol allows the model to fit well with the field measurements. The second model is based on Fick’s laws, and the flux F (g/sm 2 ) can be estimated by F = (K′ M Hg p v )/RT where K′ = 8.49·10 −7 , M Hg = 200.56 g/mol and the partial vapor pressure of gaseous mercury p v (Pa) can be estimated from the saturation vapor pressure of gaseous mercury p v = 0.00196·p s and the August’s law log(p s ) = 10.184–3210.29/T. This method is also validated with results measured in situ. Both methods are accurate enough to explain and predict emission rate G (g/s), gas flux F (g/sm 2 ) and maximum Hg gas concentration over the debris C max (ng/m 3 ) as a function the temperature T (K).

Abstract In the present work we analyzed the effects of postnatal exposure to two doses of genistein (10 μg/g or 50 μg/g) from postnatal (P) day 6 to P13, on the morphology of the arcuate nucleus (Arc). The analyses of Arc coronal brain sections at 90 days showed that the ArcMP had higher values in volume, Nissl-stained neurons and GPER-ir neurons in males than in females and the treatment with genistein abolished these sex differences in most of the parameters studied. Moreover, in males, but not in females, the GPER-ir neurons decreased in the ArcMP but increased in the ArcL with both doses of genistein. In the ArcLP, GPER-ir population increased with the lowest doses and decreased with the highest one in males. Our results confirm that the Arc subdivisions have differential vulnerability to the effects of genistein during development, depending on which neuromorphological parameters, dose and sex are analyzed.

Abstract Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) allows measuring intra-individual processes moment by moment, identifying and modeling, in a naturalistic way, individual levels and changes in different psychological processes. However, active EMA requires a high degree of adherence, as it implies a significant burden for patients. Moreover, there is still no consensus on standardized procedures for implementation. There have been few results in detecting desirable characteristics for the design and implementation of an EMA device. Studies that address these issues from the perspectives of participants in psychotherapeutic processes are needed. To analyze the perspectives of patients, therapists and supervisors on the implementation of an EMA device in a psychotherapeutic treatment for depression. The sample will include eight patients, eleven therapists and five supervisors, taken from a research project that implemented an EMA system for monitoring the dynamics of affectivity at the beginning of psychotherapies for depression. Semi-structured interviews specific to each group are being conducted and analyzed from a qualitative approach based on consensual qualitative research (CQR). Participants reported having a positive evaluation of the study's informational resources and implementation. Difficulties were expressed in responding in the morning hours and the importance of having a customized EMA that is tailored to the needs of the patients was expressed. Furthermore, patients and therapists agreed that the impact of the use of the monitoring system on treatment was neutral or positive. In contrast, patients considered the EMA to be positive for their daily life.
