Abstract: ... toxicity--cytochrome c oxidase (COX) and enzymes involved in the synthesis of H2S--cystathionine β-synthase ...

Title translation Serum cystathionine β-synthase (CBS), cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE ) and cytochrome c oxidase (COX) in copper mine miners potentially expose d to hydrogen sulfide.
Abstract Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate serum levels of the target enzyme for H2S toxicity--cytochrome c oxidase (COX) and enzymes involved in the synthesis of H2S--cystathionine β-synthase (CBS) and cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) in copper mine miners.
Material and methods: The initial and basic study was conducted respectively in 237 and 88 miners, working in 2 mining shafts: I--no H2S emissions recorded in the last 10 years (study group A) and II--H2S emissions occurred (study group B). A medical examination was performed and 10 ml of blood was collected from miners immediately after exiting the mine.
Results: There were no clinical or biochemical changes typical for H2S toxicity. Sulfhemoglobine was undetectable and there were no changes in the red-ox system. However, in group B, regulatory changes were found; a tendency to higher concentration of CBS and CSE, a higher activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) compared to group A (p<0.05) and a linear relationship between ACE and CSE (r=0.6927; p<0.001). It has been shown that cigarette smoking decreases COX (p<0.05), however, in miners working in shaft II, the decreased level of COX may result also from the presence of H2S in the gaseous emissions.
Conclusions: COX concentration can be a sensitive indicator of exposure to H2S. The measurements of blood H2S concentrations carried out in workplaces should explain the cause of the changes observed in the COX, CBS and CSE activity.

Abstract: ... The extended controversy between C. and O. Vogt on the one side, and W. Spielmeyer on the other is reviewed ...

Abstract This review is focused upon the historical discussion on the topic of selective vulnerability. The extended controversy between C. and O. Vogt on the one side, and W. Spielmeyer on the other is reviewed. The major interest centers around the hippocampus where the phenomenon of selective vulnerability is most obvious. The theory of pathoclisis as proposed by the Vogts is reported which postulates physico-chemical peculiarities for different anatomical areas. Spielmeyer took an opposite position and stressed the vascular supply which was examined by Uchimura. The common issues of both theories are discussed, and the synthesis attempted by Scholz is explained. In the sense of an interim statement, present results from experimental research on cerebral ischemia and on selective vulnerability are discussed.

Abstract On the basis of revisions of some of the systematic errors, we reanalyzed the electron-antineutrino angular correlation (a coefficient) in free neutron decay inferred from the recoil energy spectrum of the protons which are detected in 4π by the aSPECT spectrometer. With a=-0.104 02(82) the new value differs only marginally from the one published in 2020. The experiment also has sensitivity to b, the Fierz interference term. From a correlated (b,a) fit to the proton recoil spectrum, we derive a limit of b=-0.0098(193) which translates into a somewhat improved 90% confidence interval region of -0.041≤b≤0.022 on this hypothetical term. Tighter constraints on b can be set from a combined [shown as superscript (c)] analysis of the PERKEO III (β asymmetry) and aSPECT measurement which suggests a finite value of b with b^{(c)}=-0.0181±0.0065 deviating by 2.82σ from the standard model.

Abstract Coordinating one's behavior with the behavior of other individuals is a fundamental feature of everyday social interaction. A defining feature of such behavior is that it is dynamic, that is, it evolves over time. This is true whether one considers the linguistic, gestural and non-verbal coordination that occurs between two or more individuals engaged in a conversation or the physical movement coordination that occurs when two or more people clear a dinner table or load a dishwasher together. Such behavior is also emergent and robust to sudden changes in task context or unexpected environmental or social perturbations. Accordingly, robust social action and multi-agent coordination is synergistic, with co-acting individuals adapting to each other and the environment around them in a mutual and reciprocal manner. Research investigating the behavioral dynamics of joint-action and multi-agent coordination has steadily increased over the last several decades.-

Spurred by several factors, including (i) the increased accessibility of technologies for recording and extracting the time-evolution of multi-agent behavior (e.g., motion tracking, eye-tracking, EEG), (ii) the development of new nonlinear techniques for analyzing behavioral and linguistic time-series data, and (iii) a growing appreciation that social cognition, perception, and action are interdependent, embodied and embedded processes, this research has not only been directed towards measuring and identifying the stable patterns of coordinated social and multi-agent activity that emerge over time, but also how these stable pattern are activated, dissolved, transformed, and exchanged over time. Not surprisingly, researchers have begun to investigate the implications of this behavioral dynamics perspective for understanding social cognitive processes as well as clinical disorders with social deficits such as autism and schizophrenia.-

Attempts at modeling the dynamics of social action and multi-agent behavior using various nonlinear and complex systems methods has also increased over the last several years, with many researchers demonstrating how simple low-dimensional dynamical or computational models can be employed to capture and explain the dynamics of ongoing joint-action and multi-agent behavior. A characteristic feature of these dynamical models is that they reveal how stable social action and multi-agent coordination arises naturally from the interaction of the physical, biomechanical, neural, informational, and social cognitive properties of a joint-action task context and goal, and cannot be ascribed to any one singular processes, agent, or level of analysis.-
