Abstract Our research empirically examines the impact of good governance on the US tourism demand over the period 1999–2020. We use a data set of 13 different tourism markets to avoid any aggregation bias while controlling for economic and political factors. Our empirical results show that two dimensions of governance, i) the political stability and absence of violence/terrorism and ii) government effectiveness, exert a statistically significant positive impact on the US tourism demand. We also find that the party in control of the White House has a statistically significant influence on tourism demand. These empirical findings have several implications for accurate demand forecasting as well as developing sustainable tourism policies.

Abstract The goal of this study is to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on emerging stock markets over the period March 10 - April 30, 2020. Findings reveal that the negative impact of pandemic on emerging stock markets has gradually fallen and begun to taper off by mid-April. In terms of regional classification, the impact of the outbreak has been the highest in Asian emerging markets whereas emerging markets in Europe have experienced the lowest. We also find that official response time and the size of stimulus package provided by the governments matter in offsetting the effects of the pandemic.

Abstract Background: Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) has become an increasingly common surgical option because the number of cadaveric donors is insufficient to fulfill the organ needs of patients facing end-stage cirrhosis. Many centers are investigating different surgical techniques to achieve lower complication rates. We aimed to examine our complication rates in light of demographic data, graft data, and perioperative findings as a single-center experience.
Methods: The study included one hundred and three patients who underwent LDLT for end-stage liver cirrhosis. Demographic data; sex; age; blood group; Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score; Child score; etiology; liver side; graft-to-recipient weight ratio; hepatic artery, portal vein, and bile anastomosis type rates; anhepatic phase; cold ischemia time; operation time; and blood product transfusion rates were analyzed. Biliary complications in patients with single or multiple biliary anastomoses, right or left liver transplants, and with or without hepatic artery thrombosis were analyzed statistically.
Results: There was no significant difference in biliary complications between patients who underwent single or multiple bile anastomosis (P = .231) or patients receiving right lobe and left lobe transplants (P = .315). Although there was no statistically significant difference in the rate of portal vein thrombosis between the regular and reconstructed portal vein anastomosis groups (P = .693), the postoperative portal vein thrombosis rate was statistically higher in patients with left lobe transplants (P = .044).
Conclusions: Vascular and biliary complication rates can be reduced with increasing experience.

Abstract Dış ticaretin gelir ve fiyat esnekliklerinin ölçülmesi, özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerde ticaret politikasının şekillendirilmesi ve ödemeler dengesinin iyileştirilmesi açısından oldukça önemlidir.

Abstract Objective: This study aims to evaluate outcomes in nutcracker syndrome patients with tolerable symptoms and treated conservatively without invasive interventions.
Methods: This prospective study included patients treated conservatively. Promoting weight gain, the endpoint of the study was spontaneous resolution of symptoms.
Results: Sixteen patients (75% female and mean age 24.4 ± 3.5 years) underwent conservative management. Over a mean follow-up of 27.3 months [13-42, interquartile range (IQR)], the diameter ratio (5.5 [5-6.5, IQR] vs 4.3 [4.1-6],
Conclusions: This study shows that a conservative approach contributes to the spontaneous improvement or complete resolution in young adult patients with mild symptoms.

Abstract Tourism is often cited as an important driver of environmental degradation worldwide by previous literature. Butler (2000) alleges that tourists will not travel back to polluted and dirty destinations if they have alternative destinations available at comparable prices. It is thus likely that carbon emissions affect tourism industry as well. The goal of this paper is therefore to investigate the impact of carbon emissions on tourism receipts in the top ten country destinations around the world. We employ panel ARDL approach using the annual data for the period 1995-2010. Findings show that emissions from gaseous fuel have a positive impact whereas total emissions, emissions from solid fuel (only in the short-run) and liquid fuel have negative impact on tourism receipts. Policy implications depending on these results are also discussed.

Abstract The previous literature on the impact of trade on energy consumption has yielded inconclusive results. However, recent studies provide evidence of a nonlinear relationship between trade and energy consumption. Unlike previous studies, we employ a panel framework with allowance for heterogeneity and cross-sectional dependence to investigate the trade-energy consumption nexus for OECD countries for the period 1990–2015. Our results show that the impact of trade on energy consumption exhibits an inverted U-shaped pattern and the nonlinear relationship is robust to estimation methods. On the other hand, the results from linear specifications reveal the importance of cross-sectional dependence in explaining the positive role of trade on energy consumption. In addition, these impacts are consistent across different measures of trade.

Abstract Seeing that reshaped energy economics literature has adopted some new variables in energy demand function, the number of papers looking into the relationship between financial development and energy consumption at the aggregate level has been increasing over the last few years. This paper, however, proposes a new framework using disaggregated data and investigates the nexus between financial development and sectoral energy consumption in Turkey. To this end, panel time series regression and causality techniques are adopted over the period 1989–2011. Empirical results confirm that financial development does have a significant impact on energy consumption, even with disaggregated data. It is also proved that the magnitude of financial development is larger in energy-intensive industries than in less energy-intensive ones.
