    Abstract Background and aims: Ayurveda is a traditional medicine that originated in the Indian subcontinent, and its use remains widespread in the Indian subcontinent, especially for managing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). It is also becoming increasingly popular in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries as complementary and alternative medicine. Qualitative research studies have been conducted in various OECD countries to explore the experiences, perceptions, and perspectives of Ayurvedic practitioners and patients with NCDs regarding the usage of Ayurveda for managing these conditions. However, to date, no systematic review on this topic has been published. Therefore, this systematic review aims to synthesize the experiences, perceptions, and perspectives of Ayurvedic practitioners and patients with NCDs on the usage of Ayurveda for managing these conditions in OECD countries.
    Methods: The systematic review will be conducted in accordance with the joanna briggs institute systematic review guideline on qualitative evidence. We will include qualitative research studies conducted among Ayurvedic practitioners or adult patients with NCDs in any OECD member country to explore experiences, perceptions, or perspectives regarding the usage of Ayurveda for managing NCDs. MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCOhost), PsycINFO (Ovid), AMED, and Web of Science will be searched to identify published studies. EthOS and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses will be searched to identify unpublished studies. No date or language restrictions will be applied. Initially, a narrative synthesis will be conducted. Where possible, study findings will be pooled using the meta-aggregation approach.

    Abstract Introduction: Single-cell multi-omics studies, such as multidimensional transcriptomics (whole transcriptomic analysis, WTA), and surface marker analysis (antibody sequencing, AbSeq), have turned out to be valuable techniques that offer inaccessible possibilities for single-cell profiling of mRNA, lncRNA, and proteins.
    Methods: We used this technique to understand the dynamics of mRNA and protein-level differences in healthy, COVID-19-infected and recovered individuals using peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Our results demonstrate that compared to mRNA expression, protein abundance is a better indicator of the disease state.

    Abstract Pore-forming protein toxins (PFTs) represent a diverse class of membrane-damaging proteins that are produced by a wide variety of organisms. PFT-mediated membrane perforation is largely governed by the chemical composition and the physical properties of the plasma membranes. The interaction between the PFTs with the target membranes is critical for the initiation of the pore-formation process, and can lead to discrete membrane reorganization events that further aids in the process of pore-formation. Punching holes on the plasma membranes by the PFTs interferes with the cellular homeostasis by disrupting the ion-balance inside the cells that in turn can turn on multiple signalling cascades required to restore membrane integrity and cellular homeostasis. In this review, we discuss the physicochemical attributes of the plasma membranes associated with the pore-formation processes by the PFTs, and the subsequent membrane remodelling events that may start off the membrane-repair mechanisms.

    Abstract Background and aims: Yoga has become increasingly popular in the world and the UK for improving health and well-being. A growing body of research suggests that yoga could be used to improve the management of hypertension in addition to current management strategies. Previous cross-sectional studies have also reported that hypertension is one of the most commonly disclosed health conditions in yoga sessions in the United Kingdom. Therefore, semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with yoga providers in the United Kingdom (
    Methods: Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed thematically.
    Results: Eight themes were identified. Yoga providers were generally aware of the health conditions of their attendees, and they had a reasonable knowledge of the causes, signs and symptoms, and management of hypertension. While most had received some information about hypertension as part of their initial yoga teaching training, this was generally felt to be limited. They mentioned the biopsychosocial benefits of yoga on hypertension but also expressed their concerns about the lack of regulation, the wide disparity in what is being delivered under the label of yoga, and the competency of some yoga providers.
    Conclusion: The findings suggest that yoga provision in the United Kingdom should be regulated with a better link with health service providers. A manual and training for yoga providers in the United Kingdom for managing hypertension using yoga would be helpful to address the training needs of yoga providers. However, there is a need for more robust studies before recommending the implementation of yoga in the management of hypertension in the United Kingdom.

    Abstract Langerhans Cell histiocytosis is a rare multisystem disease originating from dendritic cell lines primarily characterized by osteolytic lesion of the skeleton. Chemotherapy along with bisphosphonates have been used to control the progression of the disease and prevent the osteolysis associated with the disease. Bisphosphonate osteonecrosis of the jaws is a common finding following treatment with bisphosphonates for osteoporosis, metastatic tumors to the bone or the osteolytic lesions of multiple myeloma. The article highlights a rare case of bisphosphonate osteonecrosis of the mandible in a case of long-standing Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

    Abstract We analyze conflict between a citizenry and an insurgent group over a fixed resource such as land. The citizenry has an elected leader who proposes a division such that, the lower the land ceded to the insurgents, the higher the cost of conflict. Leaders differ in ability and ideology such that the higher the leader's ability, the lower the cost of conflict, and the more hawkish the leader, the higher his utility from retaining land. We show that the conflict arises from the political process with re-election motives causing leaders to choose to cede too little land to signal their ability. We also show that when the rents of office are high, the political equilibrium and the second best diverge; in particular, the policy under the political equilibrium is more hawkish compared to the second best. When both ideology and ability are unknown, we provide a plausible condition under which the probability of re-election increases in the leader's hawkishness, thereby providing an explanation for why hawkish politicians may have a natural advantage under the electoral process.

    Abstract Background: Machine learning is one kind of machine intelligence technique that learns from data and detects inherent patterns from large, complex datasets. Due to this capability, machine learning techniques are widely used in medical applications, especially where large-scale genomic and proteomic data are used. Cancer classification based on bio-molecular profiling data is a very important topic for medical applications since it improves the diagnostic accuracy of cancer and enables a successful culmination of cancer treatments. Hence, machine learning techniques are widely used in cancer detection and prognosis.
    Methods: In this article, a new ensemble machine learning classification model named Multiple Filtering and Supervised Attribute Clustering algorithm based Ensemble Classification model (MFSAC-EC) is proposed which can handle class imbalance problem and high dimensionality of microarray datasets. This model first generates a number of bootstrapped datasets from the original training data where the oversampling procedure is applied to handle the class imbalance problem. The proposed MFSAC method is then applied to each of these bootstrapped datasets to generate sub-datasets, each of which contains a subset of the most relevant/informative attributes of the original dataset. The MFSAC method is a feature selection technique combining multiple filters with a new supervised attribute clustering algorithm. Then for every sub-dataset, a base classifier is constructed separately, and finally, the predictive accuracy of these base classifiers is combined using the majority voting technique forming the MFSAC-based ensemble classifier. Also, a number of most informative attributes are selected as important features based on their frequency of occurrence in these sub-datasets.
    Results: To assess the performance of the proposed MFSAC-EC model, it is applied on different high-dimensional microarray gene expression datasets for cancer sample classification. The proposed model is compared with well-known existing models to establish its effectiveness with respect to other models. From the experimental results, it has been found that the generalization performance/testing accuracy of the proposed classifier is significantly better compared to other well-known existing models. Apart from that, it has been also found that the proposed model can identify many important attributes/biomarker genes.

    Abstract Introduction: Homeopathic medicines have been used for decades in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. However, the preventive efficacy of specific homeopathic medicines in COVID-19 is not well characterized. This study aimed to evaluate the comparative efficacy of prespecified homeopathic medicines in preventing COVID-19.
    Methods: A community-based, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted on 4,034 participants residing in Ward No. 27 of the Howrah Municipal Corporation in India. Participants were randomized to receive one of three prespecified homeopathic medicines [Influenzinum 30C, Arsenicum album 30C, Anas barbariae hepatis et cordis extractum 200K (Oscillococcinum®)], or placebo. The outcomes were the incidence of laboratory-confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19 during a follow-up period of 1 month.
    Results: During the follow-up period, a total of 13 new laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in the study population. Among these, 5 cases in Influenzinum group, 2 cases in Arsenicum album group, 1 case in Oscillococcinum® group, and 5 cases in Placebo group were reported. On the other hand, number of suspected COVID-19 cases was significantly less in all the three homeopathic medicine groups compared to placebo. The least number of suspected cases reported in the Oscillococcinum® group (aOR: 0.058; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.029, 0.114), followed by the Arsenicum album (aOR: 0.337; 95% CI: 0.238, 0.475) and Influenzinum (aOR: 0.539; 95% CI: 0.401, 0.726) groups.
    Conclusion: Prespecified homeopathic medicines, particularly Oscillococcinum® and Arsenicum album 30C, may have a role in preventing COVID-19, especially in reducing the incidence of suspected or COVID-19-like respiratory illnesses. However, the result failed to demonstrate a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of confirmed cases of COVID-19 between the study groups. Further research is needed to evaluate the efficacy of these medicines in different populations and settings.
    <title>Einleitung</title>Homöopathische Arzneimittel werden seit Jahrzehnten zur Prävention und Behandlung von Infektionskrankheiten eingesetzt. Die Wirksamkeit spezifischer homöopathischer Arzneimittel zur Prophylaxe von COVID-19 ist jedoch nicht gut untersucht. Mit dieser Studie sollte die vergleichende Wirksamkeit spezifischer homöopathischer Arzneimittel bei der Prävention von COVID-19 untersucht werden.<title>Methoden</title>Es handelte sich um eine gemeindebasierte, doppelblinde, randomisierte, placebokontrollierte Studie mit 4.034 Teilnehmern, die im Bezirk Nr. 27 der Howrah Municipal Corporation in Indien lebten. Die Teilnehmer erhielten randomisiert eines von drei zuvor festgelegten homöopathischen Arzneimitteln [<italic>Influenzinum</italic> 30C, <italic>Arsenicum album</italic> 30C, <italic>Anas barbariae hepatis et cordis extractum</italic> 200K (Oscillococcinum®)] oder Placebo. Zielkriterien waren die Inzidenz von laborchemisch bestätigten und vermuteten COVID-19-Fällen während des Follow-up-Zeitraums von einem Monat.<title>Ergebnisse</title>Während des Follow-up-Zeitraums wurden insgesamt 13 neue, laborchemisch bestätigte COVID-19-Fälle in der Studienpopulation berichtet, davon 5 Fälle in der <italic>Influenzinum</italic>-Gruppe, 2 Fälle in der <italic>Arsenicum album</italic>-Gruppe, 1 Fall in der Oscillococcinum®-Gruppe und 5 Fälle in der Placebo-Gruppe. Demgegenüber fiel Zahl der COVID-19-Verdachtsfälle in allen drei homöopathischen Arzneimittelgruppen signifikant geringer aus als in der Placebogruppe. Die wenigsten Verdachtsfälle wurden in der Oscillococcinum®-Gruppe berichtet (aOR: 0.058; 95%-KI: 0.029, 0.114), gefolgt von der <italic>Arsenicum album</italic>- (aOR: 0.337; 95%-KI: 0.238, 0.475) und der <italic>Influenzinum</italic>- (aOR: 0.539; 95%-KI: 0.401, 0.726) Gruppe.<title>Schlussfolgerung</title>Spezifische homöopathische Arzneimittel, insbesondere Oscillococcinum® und <italic>Arsenicum album</italic> 30C, könnten bei der Prävention von COVID-19 eine Rolle spielen, vor allem bei der Senkung der Inzidenz von COVID-19-Verdachtsfällen oder COVID-19-ähnlichen Atemwegserkrankungen. Allerdings war kein statistisch signifikanter Unterschied im Auftreten von bestätigten COVID-19-Fällen zwischen den Studiengruppen nachweisbar.
