    Abstract A new dark sector antibaryon, denoted ψ_{D}, could be produced in decays of B mesons. This Letter presents a search for B^{+}→ψ_{D}+p (and the charge conjugate) decays in e^{+}e^{-} annihilations at 10.58 GeV, using data collected in the BABAR experiment. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 398  fb^{-1} are analyzed. No evidence for a signal is observed. Branching fraction upper limits in the range from 10^{-7}-10^{-5} are obtained at 90% confidence level for masses of 1.0<m_{ψ_{<mark>D}}<4.3  GeV/c^{2}. The result is also reinterpreted to provide the first limits on a supersymmetric model with R-parity violation and a light neutralino.

    Abstract A search for charmed baryons decaying to D(0)p reveals two states: the Lambdac(2880)+ baryon and a previously unobserved state at a mass of [2939.8+/-1.3(stat)+/-1.0(syst)] MeV/c2 and with an intrinsic width of [17.5+/-5.2(stat)+/-5.9(syst)] MeV. Consistent and significant signals are observed for the K(-)pi(+) and K(-)pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) decay modes of the D0 in 287 fb(-1) annihilation data recorded by the BABAR detector at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. There is no evidence in the D+p spectrum of doubly charged partners. The mass and intrinsic width of the Lambdac(2880)+ baryon and relative yield of the two baryons are also measured.

    Abstract Open spina bifida, also known as myelomeningocele (MMC), is the most challenging and severe birth defect of the central nervous system compatible with life and it is due to a failure in the dorsal fusion of the nascent neural tube during embryonic development. MMC is often accompanied by a constellation of collateral conditions, including hydrocephalus, Arnold - Chiari II malformation, brainstem disfunction, hydrosyringomyelia, tethered cord syndrome and scoliosis. Beyond early surgical repair of the dorsal defect, MMC requires lifelong cares. Several additional surgical procedures are generally necessary to improve the long-term outcomes of patients affected by MMC and multidisciplinary evaluations are crucial for early identification and management of the various medical condition that can accompany this pathology. In this chapter, the most common pathological entities associated with MMC are illustrated, focusing on clinical manifestations, treatment strategies and follow up recommendations.

    Abstract Background: Advances in the treatment of gynecological cancer have led to improvements in survival but also an increase in menopausal symptoms, especially in young women with premature iatrogenic menopause.
    Methods: A narrative review was performed to clarify the possibility of prescribing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after hormone-dependent gynecological cancers (ovarian cancer [OC], cervical adenocarcinoma [AC], and endometrial cancer [EC]).
    Results: HRT can be prescribed to patients with early-stage, grade I-II OC who experience bothersome menopausal symptoms non-responsive to alternative non-hormone therapy after optimal surgery. Caution should be exercised in administering HRT after serous borderline tumors and endometrioid OC, and HRT is not recommended in low-grade serous OC. HRT is not contraindicated in AC survivors. After surgery for EC, HRT can be prescribed in women with early-stage low-grade EC. There is not enough data to give indications to patients with advanced EC.
    Conclusions: HRT can be discussed with patients, evaluating the risks and benefits of hormone-dependent gynecological cancer. Counseling should be performed by gynecologic oncologists experienced in the management of these patients.

Herein, a sustainable and scalable synthesis of zinc oxide-castor oil polyurethane hybrids (ZnO/COPs), to be used as acetic acid removers in the preventive conservation of Cultural Heritage, is reported.
    Experiments: The adsorption capacities of ZnO/COPs were studied in saturated acetic acid atmosphere, at low acetic acid gas concentration, and inside a wooden crate (naturally emitting acetic acid) representative of those used in the storage deposits of museums and art collections.
    Findings: Upon exposure, acetic acid interacts with the castor oil polyurethane and diffuses to the surface of ZnO particles where is stably fixed as zinc acetate crystals. Zinc acetate domains form homogeneously on the surface and are distributed evenly within the ZnO/COPs, thanks to weak interactions between the polyurethane matrix and acetic acid that favour the transport of the acid up to reach the zinc oxide surfaces, resulting in a synergistic effect. The ZnO/COPs composites showed significantly enhanced adsorption capacities of acetic acid surpassing those of the activated carbon benchmark, with the advantage of being easily handled and movable, without the health issues and risks associated to the use of non-confined micro/nano-powders.

    Abstract Hypothesis: Materials and colloids science can provide significant contributions to the conservation of Cultural Heritage. Hybrid systems made of a castor oil-derived polymeric network and a disperse phase of zinc oxide particles (ZnO/COPs) can be more effective absorbers of acetic acid (AcOH, a major pollutant harmful to artifacts in museums and art collections) than state-of-the-art materials, provided the acid uptake mechanism by the hybrids is elucidated and optimized. The starting hypothesis was that the polymer matrix might act as transporter, while acid adsorption would take place at the ZnO particles surface. The effect of particles size was expected to play a significant role.
    Experiments: The adsorption kinetics of the hybrids were studied in the 23-45˚C range, in comparison with activated charcoal, the benchmark employed by conservators. Morphological and fractal dimension of ZnO micro- and nano-particles in the hybrid networks were investigated and correlated to the adsorption kinetics.
    Findings: The presence of a two-steps mechanism for AcOH uptake by the hybrids was demonstrated for the first time: a combination of Fickian diffusion and Case-II transport occurs in the COP matrix, and adsorption dominates acid uptake (followed by neutralization) at the particles surface. This mechanism is likely key to explain the enhanced performances of the hybrids vs activated charcoal and state-of-the-art tools to remove AcOH. The hybrids have high uptake capacity, and lower activation energies for the removal process than materials where the uptake of acid relies solely on adsorption. The size of the ZnO particles contributes to the process, i.e. nanoparticles form smaller and ramified fractal clusters that are able to adsorb AcOH more effectively than microparticles. These insights demonstrated the efficacy of the novel hybrids in art conservation, where the control of minimal concentrations of VOCs is crucial for the preventive conservation of masterpieces, and can be useful to other fields where efficient capture of acetic acid is critical (food industry, textile dyeing/printing, etc.).

    Abstract Background: With promising outcomes, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has recently been suggested as a treatment for olfactory dysfunction (OD).
    Methods: Clinical studies utilizing PRP in OD caused by COVID-19, trauma, anesthetic exposure, viral infection, and chronic rhinosinusitis were included in a systematic review.
    Results: Ten clinical studies were qualitatively analyzed. Six of these studies used the PRP for OD caused by COVID-19, one on OD after functional endoscopic sinus surgery, and three on post-infectious or post-trauma OD. The population included 531 patients, ranging in age from 15 to 63.
    Conclusion: The use of PRP may be a risk-free and efficient therapeutic option with very encouraging outcomes. Indeed, it enhances olfactory perception in patients who not only exhibit COVID-19 infection aftereffects, but also in those who have lost their sense of smell due to trauma, rhinosinusitis, rhinitis, or even surgery. To evaluate the PRP's therapeutic benefits in OD patients and to compare the efficacy of different therapeutic protocols with regard to treatment schedules, there is an urgent need for focused controlled trials.

    Abstract Motivationally significant events like oddball stimuli elicit both a characteristic event-related potential (ERPs) known as P300 and a set of autonomic responses including a phasic pupil dilation. Although co-occurring, P300 and pupil-dilation responses to oddball events have been repeatedly found to be uncorrelated, suggesting separate origins. We re-examined their relationship in the context of a three-stimulus version of the auditory oddball task, independently manipulating the frequency (rare vs. repeated) and motivational significance (relevance for the participant's task) of the stimuli. We used independent component analysis to derive a P300b component from EEG traces and linear modeling to separate a stimulus-related pupil-dilation response from a potentially confounding action-related response. These steps revealed that, once the complexity of ERP and pupil-dilation responses to oddball targets is accounted for, the amplitude of phasic pupil dilations and P300b are tightly and positively correlated (across participants: r = .69 p = .002), supporting their coordinated generation.
