Abstract The article analyzes an influence of 412 SMS from Mtn Nigeria agro info Services Added Value that were sent by graduates of universities with agricultural specialties during 2018. The author examined the content of those messages and their effectiveness in decision making by young specialists about their employment in Nigerian agricultural enterprises. For this purpose the author divided all messages into four categories (“evidentiary”, “local”, “descriptive”, “striking”). Of them, “evidentiary” messages were the most effective in communication by encouraging unemployed to make constructive decisions about their employment. Generally, the results of the research demonstrates that the messages sent to mobile phones are effective means in attraction of the qualified specialists to the work in agriculture sector of the county. Apart from historical, sociological component of this research is also important, because unemployment of graduates of universities makes them vulnerable and may influence negatively on the society. It is also important that the research may result in positive changes in certain behavior patterns, because now mobile phone is an effective means of not only communication, but also forming of certain tastes and values. Finally, the results of this research may influence on substantive content for mobile phone users, because they reflect a rather significant multiaspectual effectiveness of the named categories of SMS. Therefore, the most important innovation of the article is an evidence of the influence of mobile communication on important behavior reflexes; given facts and conclusions may be useful and instructive for telecommunication service providers and communications experts, as well as for managers of agricultural enterprises, social workers and researchers on this issue. The most important result of this research is the demonstration that due to the receiving agro-informational hints by unemployed graduates of universities a large part of them found employment, at the same time, those ...

Abstract Child marriage has continued to rear its ugly head in Nigerian society. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of storytelling and multimedia music interventions in improving knowledge of the Child Rights Act and reducing the propensity to engage in child marriage. The researchers applied a quasi-experimental design and collected data using a structured questionnaire. The children were assigned into three groups (control, storytelling and multimedia music) of 173 participants. It was found that the interventions were effective. In particular, while storytelling contributed more to reducing the propensity to engage in child marriage, multimedia music contributed more to improving knowledge of the Child Rights Act. These results suggest that storytelling and multimedia music interventions can be effective approaches for addressing the lingering problem of child marriage in Nigeria.

Abstract Previous studies on media coverage of health issues hardly recognize the role of time in moderating media contents. Instead, scholars most often examine how news media report health issues. In this study, we recognized the role of time by taking into account how media report differs based on when a global outbreak is confirmed in a country and when it is not. We focused on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and examined six media-two TV stations, two newspapers and two radio stations. We content-analysed 537 stories and found that there were few stories about the virus before it was confirmed in Nigeria. But as soon as Nigeria recorded a confirmed case, the number of stories tripled. We also noticed that story format and recommendation on health behaviour were also closely linked to the COVID-19 status of Nigeria. However, we did not find an association between Nigeria's COVID-19 status and policy recommendation among the media studied. Therefore, this study concludes that Nigerian media did not provide sufficient health warning messages on COVID-19 before its spread to the country.

Abstract Over the years, world leaders have continued to troubleshoot approaches to combating hunger. Although the increasing hunger appears to be affecting countries in different continents of the world, African countries and part Asia appear to be most hit. This study examines the nexus between literary journalism and combating the global hunger crisis with specific attention to Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined the extent literary journalism can be deployed to combat hunger, the techniques to deploy in using literary journalism to drive government policies on food sufficiency and encourage public participation in agriculture. Literary journalism, though an emerging field, has the potential of promoting agricultural activities and policies that will lead to eventual food security. Literary journalism presents an opportunity through which agriculture can be developed and food security enhanced. Understanding the approaches and techniques of literary journalism for combating global food crisis is a significant contribution to literature in the following ways: First, it will provide newer insights into the role of literary journalism in agricultural development and food security. In the second place, this study contributes to literature by opening a new vista in the study of literary journalism. The International Food Policy Research Institute in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization in its Global Hunger Index grouped Nigeria among countries with a high level of hunger threat, with an index of 25.5 which was categorized as serious hunger threat. Based on the concept of 'breakable rules' by Mark Kramer, the following characteristics of literary journalism stand out: immersion in the story worlds; developing implicit rules (covenants) on accuracy and sincerity; description mainly about everyday, routine events; development of meaning, based on a consistent reaction of readers. This study raises the following researcher questions: To what extent can literary journalism promote food security? What ...

Abstract This study was a quasi-experimental design that was aimed at understanding the impact of interactive television-based art therapy for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among school children who have experienced abduction. Participants took part in a 12-week art therapy delivered through interactive television. The result showed that art therapy was effective in reducing PTSD symptoms. A follow-up assessment after 6 months showed a steady decline in PTSD symptoms among participants in the treatment group when compared with their counterparts in the non-treatment group. The implications of these results have been discussed and recommendations made.
