Abstract: ... matrix elements |V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}| at low and high B_{s}^{0}→K^{-} momentum transfer. ...

Abstract The first observation of the suppressed semileptonic B_{s}^{0}→K^{-}μ^{+}ν_{μ} decay is reported. Using a data sample recorded in pp collisions in 2012 with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2  fb^{-1}, the branching fraction B(B_{s}^{0}→K^{-}μ^{+}ν_{μ}) is measured to be [1.06±0.05(stat)±0.08(syst)]×10^{-4}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one represents the combined systematic uncertainties. The decay B_{s}^{0}→D_{s}^{-}μ^{+}ν_{μ}, where D_{s}^{-} is reconstructed in the final state K^{+}K^{-}π^{-}, is used as a normalization channel to minimize the experimental systematic uncertainty. Theoretical calculations on the form factors of the B_{s}^{0}→K^{-} and B_{s}^{0}→D_{s}^{-} transitions are employed to determine the ratio of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements |V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}| at low and high B_{s}^{0}→K^{-} momentum transfer.

Abstract We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of donor-acceptor TADF emitters with a new architecture, where the donor moiety and the dibenzazepine-based acceptor moiety are separated by a phenylene linker in a V-shaped spatial arrangement. Such spatial separation and electronic decoupling between the donor and the acceptor moieties leads to low singlet-triplet energy gaps and favors efficient exciton up-conversion.

Title translation Hyperthermic Isolated Limb Perfusion Combined with Tasonermin - a Perfusion Leakage Monitoring Technique.
Abstract Background: Hyperthermic isolated limb perfusion is used to treat irresectable extremity malignancies. It is based on the following principle - the perfusion of the extremity is isolated from systemic circulation and connected to an extra-corporal circuit via which a very high concentration of a chemotherapeutic agent is administered into the blood compartment of the extremity. In some cases, treatment efficiency can be improved using tasonermin (a TNF-α agent). By itself, tasonermin can cause severe health complications in patients if leakage into systemic circulation results in a level that exceeds the maximally tolerated dose. Therefore, it is important to monitor for leakage during the whole operation.
Method: Leakage monitoring was performed by a nuclear medicine method based on the measurement of activity of a gamma-emitting radiotracer detected by a scintillation probe located over the heart. An amount of radiotracer that resulted in a basal level of measured signal was first administered into the systemic circuit followed by the administration of a second, one order of magnitude higher amount of radiotracer into the perfusion circuit. Leakage, when it occurred, increased the count rate detected over the heart, and the mathematical relation between leakage level and count rate increase was derived.
Results: In our department, the method was tested and optimized during isolated limb perfusion without using a TNF-α agent. Then, accreditation for the use of TNF-α was granted. Since then, the method has been used to monitor leakage in all cases of isolated limb perfusion with TNF-α. All isolated limb perfusion operations with TNF-α passed without complications. The radiation burden was almost negligible for both the patient and medical staff.
Conclusion: The method described in this report represents a reliable method for perfusion leakage monitoring when using TNF-α in our department.Key words: perfusion - isolated limb - TNF-α - leakage - monitoring - nuclear medicine - radiopharmaceuticalsThe authors declare they have no potential confl icts of interest concerning drugs, products, or services used in the study. The Editorial Board declares that the manuscript met the ICMJE recommendation for biomedical papers.Submitted: 16. 6. 2016Accepted: 21. 6. 2016.

Abstract The non-receptor tyrosine kinase Src is a major player in multiple physiological responses including growth, survival and differentiation. Overexpression and/or oncogenic mutation in the Src gene have been documented in human tumors. The v-Src protein is an oncogenic mutant of Src, which promotes cell survival, migration, invasion and division. GRIM-19 is an antioncogene isolated using a genome-wide knockdown screen. Genes associated with Retinoid-IFN-induced Mortality (GRIM)-19 binds to transcription factor STAT3 and ablates its pro-oncogenic effects while v-Src activates STAT3 to promote its oncogenic effects. However, we found that GRIM-19 inhibits the pro-oncogenic effects of v-Src independently of STAT3. Here, we report the identification of functionally inactivating GRIM-19 mutations in a set of head and neck cancer patients. While wild-type GRIM-19 strongly ablated v-Src-induced cell migration, cytoskeletal remodeling and tumor metastasis, the tumor-derived mutants (L(71)P, L(91)P and A(95)T) did not. These mutants were also incapable of inhibiting the drug resistance of v-Src-transformed cells. v-Src downregulated the expression of Pag1, a lipid raft-associated inhibitor of Src, which was restored by wild-type GRIM-19. The tumor-derived mutant GRIM-19 proteins failed to upregulate Pag1. These studies show a novel mechanism that deregulates Src activity in cancer cells.

Abstract Species containing iron at an oxidation state higher than +III are often termed "high-valent iron" and are considered to be key catalytic intermediates in biochemistry. Here, we report the direct time-domain probing of the photochemical formation of an octahedral nitrido iron(V) complex through dinitrogen cleavage from an diazido iron(III) precursor by using femtosecond mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy. From the time-resolved vibrational spectra, a mechanism is suggested for the photooxidation of the metal within 10 ps. This mechanism involves an initial ultrafast non-adiabatic transition, followed by a quasithermal N-N bond rupture on the ground-state surface.

Abstract The objective of the study was to examine the validity of v₄ [velocity run under the defined conditions inducing 4 mmol/L of blood lactate concentration ([LA])] and v₂₀₀ (velocity run under the defined conditions inducing a heart rate of 200 beats/min) to differentiate performance level among Standardbred racehorses. For this purpose, 19 Standardbred trotting racehorses with differing racing time records in 2 training yards were submitted to a standardized exercise test to determine their v₄ and v₂₀₀ (6 horses of one yard only). The test consisted of 4 or more consecutive intervals depending on when the blood [LA] of a horse increased above 4 mmol/L. Speed and time trotted in each interval as well as time between consecutive intervals were the same for horses of a training yard. The blood [LA] measured after each interval was plotted exponentially against running speed to derive v₄ from the blood lactate-running speed relationship, and the mean heart rate during the intervals was plotted linearly against running speed to derive v₂₀₀ from the heart rate-running speed relationship. The correlation coefficient between v₄ and the racing time record was 0.77 and 0.75 for horses in racing yard A and B, respectively. There was no correlation between v₂₀₀ and the racing time record. Therefore, v₄ is a valid indicator of performance level of Standardbred trotting racehorses; however, v₂₀₀ may not be or to a lesser extent.

Abstract This study examined the effect of exercising horses five times per fortnight with two bouts of 5 min duration at their v₁₀ with 2 days between consecutive exercise sessions. Five Anglo-Arabian horses were treadmill-conditioned for 6 weeks. A standardized exercise test (SET) was performed at the beginning of the conditioning period (CP) to determine the blood lactate-running speed (BLRS) and the heart rate-running speed (HRRS) relationship and the SET was repeated every 2 weeks. After each SET, the BLRS relation was used to calculate the horse's speed (v = velocity), which produced a blood lactate concentration (LA) of 10 mmol/l (v₁₀) and 4 mmol/l (v₄). From the HRRS was calculated the speed at which the horses had a heart rate of 180 b/min (v₁₈₀). Each horse was then conditioned for the next 2 weeks five times at its individual v₁₀ for two 5-min bouts. Exercise speed was individually adapted to the new v₁₀ every 2 weeks. In addition, horses were submitted to another SET prescription to determine the peak oxygen consumption (VO₂peak) before, after 3 weeks and at the end of CP. The v₄ of horses increased during the CP (p < 0.05). v₁₈₀ did not change (p > 0.05). VO₂peak increased in the first 3 weeks of CP (p < 0.05) and levelled off afterwards (p > 0.05). The conclusion drawn was that exercising horses five times per fortnight at their v₁₀ for two 5-min bouts with 2 days between consecutive exercise sessions improved v₄ and VO₂peak but not v₁₈₀.
