Abstract Evapotranspiration (ET) is the largest component of the water budget, accounting for the majority of the water available from precipitation. ET is challenging to quantify because of the uncertainties associated with the many ET equations currently in use, and because observations of ET are uncertain and sparse. In this study, we combine information provided by available ET data and equations to produce a new monthly data set for ET for the conterminous U.S. (CONUS). These maps are produced from 1895 to 2018 at an 800 m spatial scale, marking a finer resolution than currently available products over this time period. In our approach, the relative performance of a suite of ET equations is assessed using water balance, flux tower, and remotely sensed ET estimates. At the observation locations, we use error distributions to quantify relative weights for the equations and use these in a modified Bayesian model averaging weighted ensemble approach. The relative weights are spatially generalized using a random forest regression, which is applied to wall‐to‐wall explanatory variable maps to generate CONUS‐wide relative weight maps and ensemble estimates. We assess the performance of the ensemble using a reserved subset of the observations and compare this performance against other national‐scale map products for historical to modern ET. The ensemble ET maps are shown to provide an improved accuracy over the alternative comparison products. These ET maps could be useful for a variety of hydrologic modeling and assessment applications that benefit from a long record, such as the study of periods of water scarcity through time.

Abstract Changes in public health profiles and moves towards inclusive models of education have led to significant number of students in mainstream schools with special health needs. Addressing these needs requires collaboration between health professionals, educators and families. Integrated models of school-based health care can facilitate this collaboration; however, there is little evidence to guide their implementation. The School-Based Primary Health Care Service (SB-PHCS) is one such service that has been established in far west New South Wales. The School-Based Primary Health Care Service embeds health district-employed registered nurses with school learning support teams to increase service access, and improve health and education outcomes for students. We conducted focus groups with nurses and learning support teams to explore their experiences of implementing the School-Based Primary Health Care Service. Focus group transcripts were analysed using framework analysis. We found that defining the role and working across systems were challenges to program implementation, whereas a collaborative culture, relationship building and flexibility in work processes facilitated the integration of nurses into the school teams. We recommend others embarking on similar initiatives involve key stakeholders early in service development, understand each other's systems and processes, and provide clarity about the new role, but plan to adapt the role to fit the context. This study will be of interest to those involved in the implementation of integrated models of school-based health care.

Abstract The global trends of ocean warming, deoxygenation, and acidification are not easily extrapolated to coastal environments. Local factors, including intricate hydrodynamics, high primary productivity, freshwater inputs, and pollution, can exacerbate or attenuate global trends and produce complex mosaics of physiologically stressful conditions for organisms. In the California Current System (CCS), oceanographic monitoring programs document some of this complexity; however, data fragmentation and limited data availability constrain our understanding of when and where stressful coastal conditions manifest. Here, we undertake a large data synthesis to compile, format, and quality-control publicly available oceanographic data to create an accessible database for coastal CCS climate risk mapping, available at the National Centers for Environmental Information (Accession 0277984) under the DOI 10.25921/2vve-fh39 (Kennedy et al., 2023). With this synthesis, we combine publicly available observations and data contributed by the author team from synoptic oceanographic cruises, autonomous sensors, and shore samples with relevance to coastal ocean acidification and hypoxia (OAH) risk. This large-scale compilation includes 13.7 million observations from 67 sources. Here, we discuss the quality and composition of the synthesized dataset, the spatial and temporal distribution of available data, and examples of potential analyses. This dataset will provide a valuable tool for assessing regional and local climate risk, evaluating the efficacy and completeness of CCS monitoring efforts, and investigating spatiotemporal scales of coastal oceanographic variability.

Abstract: ... Based on cross-sectional data from 886 mixed-sex married couples from across the U.S., we found ...

Abstract Perceived positive and negative exchanges in relationships contribute to marital satisfaction in qualitatively distinct manners. However, the nature of these associations is unclear with some studies demonstrating curvilinear relationships and some literature suggesting interaction effects of positive and negative exchanges on marital satisfaction. Extant work has not compared curvilinear and interactive models to address this discrepancy. The present study clarifies these associations by comparing multiple models. Based on cross-sectional data from 886 mixed-sex married couples from across the U.S., we found that marital satisfaction was associated with greater positive exchanges and lower negative exchanges. In addition, the data support interaction effects of positive and negative exchanges on marital satisfaction, but not curvilinear effects. Specifically, high positive exchanges may buffer the impact of negative exchanges on relational satisfaction. Gender differences in effects were not supported. These findings confirm that positive and negative exchanges are distinct constructs and demonstrate how relationship satisfaction scores suffer from issues of equifinality by failing to distinguish between very different qualitative relational experiences. We suggest that curvilinear, plateauing effects may be an artifact of data loss when analyzing individuals in relationships rather than whole dyads, and suggest that scholars study positive and negative exchanges with both members of a dyad moving forward.
