Abstract Consumer preference dictates not only what food is consumed but also how that food is produced. Ingredients in livestock feed that are not antibiotics, not genetically modified, and not of animal origin but that are nutrient-like tend to be more acceptable to consumers, retailers, and producers. Mono- and diglycerides (MDG) fit these criteria, are commonly used in food, and are generally recognized as safe. But beyond being emulsifiers and a source of energy, MDG are also known to have antimicrobial, immune, and microbiome modulation and angiogenic activity. MDG in broiler diets have been shown to impact a variety of immune-related functions such as the regulation of circulating antibodies, as well as decreased gene expression or protein concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IFN-γ. In addition, MDG can affect metabolic function and intestinal integrity. Results of this review show that MDG can serve as antimicrobial and growth-supporting alternatives for reducing poultry production losses, improving resource utilization and meeting consumer demand for sustainably produced and safe animal protein.

Abstract Adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) may experience emotional, social, and psychological difficulties, heightened due to the interpersonal nature of harm. Despite the demonstrated effectiveness of trauma-focused treatments in the West, a culturally specific understanding of the needs of and treatments for survivors in South Asia is still in its infancy. The study aimed to systematically review research findings on the mental health impacts of CSA on adult survivors and current treatment approaches and their efficacy and acceptability in South Asia. Seven databases (Scopus, Ovid, CINAHL, ProQuest, EThOS, Google Scholar, and Dogpile) and five peer-reviewed South Asian journals were searched from inception until March 30, 2023. Searches included participants who were adult survivors of CSA of South Asian origin residing in South Asia. Studies on their mental health, different treatments, and the efficacy and acceptability of these treatments were included. Quality assessment tools were used to appraise the quality of included studies. The results were synthesized narratively. A total of 3,362 records were retrieved, and 24 articles were included in the final review. Twenty studies reported mental health impacts of CSA on adult survivors, four studies reported current treatments offered, and two studies were on recovery. However, no study focused on the efficacy or acceptability of the treatments being delivered. Even though the needs of adult CSA survivors in South Asia have been partly identified, there is very little research into the treatments for them.

Abstract The family of ABO3 perovskites forms an important class of materials with scientific value in several technological applications. Understanding the thermal properties of these materials helps determine different high-temperature applications such as thermal barrier coatings and thermoelectric devices. In this work, the thermal properties of the perovskites BaHfO3, BaSnO3, BaZrO3 and KTaO3 are studied using first-principles calculations. Each crystal was confirmed to be stable by phonon dispersion, and then the lattice contribution to thermal conductivity was calculated for each. BaZrO3 was found to have the lowest thermal conductivity of 5.291 Wm−1K−1 at 300 K and decreases to 1.092 W m−1K−1at 1500 K. BaHfO3 was found to have a thermal conductivity of 8.422 W m−1K−1 at 300 K and decreases to 1.728W m−1K−1 at 1500 K. BaSnO3 was found to have a thermal conductivity of 6.433 Wm−1K−1 at 300 K and decreases to 1.334 W m−1K−1 at 1500 K. KTaO3 was found to have a thermal conductivity of 17.793 W m−1K−1 at 300 K and decreases to 3.649W m−1K−1 at 1500 K. These results are quite comparable to experimental results at low temperature, however, are seriously underestimated at high temperatures

Abstract In this study, a series of new heteroleptic copper(I) bis(diimine) complexes are described. Using one highly hindered phenanthroline ligand and a second less-hindered diimine ligand led to unexpected results. Following a two-step one-pot method to obtain heteroleptic copper(I) complexes, an almost perfect tetrahedral coordination geometry around the copper(I) ion was obtained in several cases, despite the fact that at least one ligand was not sterically encumbered near the coordination site (at the position α to the nitrogen atoms of the ligand). This was demonstrated in the solid state by resolution of crystal structures, and these findings, corroborated by calculations, showed that the non-covalent interactions between the two diimine ligands present in these complexes were governing these structural features. The electronic properties of all complexes were also determined and the fluorescence lifetimes of two complexes were compared.

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this prospective cohort study was to investigate the influence of types of motivation, basic psychological needs satisfaction and of a coach-created motivational climate on continued participation in youth sports across types of sport, competitive levels, ages, and gender.
Methods: Participants were 7110 adolescent (age 12-20 years) members of leisure time club organized in basketball, handball, football, badminton, and gymnastics in Denmark. Motivational regulation was measured with BRSQ-6, basic psychological needs satisfaction and frustration were measured with PNSS-S, and coach-created climate was measured with the EDMCQ-C. The participants' continuation or dropout was measured at the beginning of the following season with a short electronic questionnaire.
Results: Intrinsic motivation, identified behavior regulation, experiences of competence, relatedness, and autonomy, as well as a coach-created empowering motivational climate, were associated with continuation both in the sport and in the club the following season across different sports, genders, age groups, and competitive levels. Introjected and external behavior regulation, frustrations with the need to experience competence, relatedness, and autonomy, as well as a disempowering coach-created climate, were associated with dropout.
Conclusion: In Danish youth sports, autonomous motivation, satisfaction of basic psychological needs, and an empowering coach-created motivational climate have a positive impact on the continuation of the sport and the club the following season. In contrast, controlled types of motivation, needs frustration, and a disempowering coach-created climate are associated with dropout. This is the case at both elite and recreational levels, for boys and girls, adolescents, and youth.
