Abstract Chiral nematic materials have been attracting attention in fields of advanced functional applications due to their unique iridescent colors and tunable helical structure. A precisely decreased pitch is of importance for construction and applications of chiral nematic materials; however, it remains a huge challenge. Herein, cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) is selected as a constructed matrix for chiral nematic films, and ferric chloride (FeCl

Abstract Background: The traditional scarf osteotomy (TSO) has limited ability to correct the first metatarsal pronation. A novel modification that we refer to as a "dovetailed notch scarf osteotomy" (DNSO) has been developed to enhance the ability to correct coronal plane pronation. The study aimed to observe and compare TSO to DNSO in the treatment of moderate to severe hallux valgus deformity.
Methods: This retrospective study included 78 feet that had a TSO and 105 feet that had a DNSO. Minimum follow-up was 24 months. Weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT) and weightbearing anterior-posterior (AP) radiographs were taken preoperatively and at the last follow-up. We measured the intermetatarsal angle (IMA), hallux valgus angle, distal metatarsal articular surface angle on AP radiographs and first metatarsal coronal pronation angle (α angle), tibial sesamoid coronal grading, and first metatarsal length on WBCT. Clinical assessment was done using visual analog scale (VAS), American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot scale, Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM), and the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). The occurrence of postoperative complications was also documented.
Results: The DNSO group exhibited a significantly higher correction amount of α angle and IMA (14.3 ± 9.9 and 10.3 ± 4.6 degrees) than the TSO group (8.6 ± 5.9 and 5.4 ± 5.9 degrees) during the final follow-up assessment (
Conclusion: Two osteotomy methods can effectively correct moderate to severe hallux valgus deformity. Compared with the TSO, the DNSO has stronger correction ability. The most crucial aspect lies in its controllability when correcting first metatarsal pronation and addressing IMA.
Level of evidence: Level III, retrospective comparative study.

Abstract This article studies Lyapunov stability for nonlinear systems based on discrete-time self-triggered impulsive control (STIC). With the help of comparison approach, some Lyapunov-based sufficient conditions guaranteeing nonZeno behavior and global asymptotic stability of nonlinear systems under STIC are derived. Different from the existing self-triggered mechanisms using implicit expressions to compute the next impulse instant, which may result in computational burden, we propose a novel discrete-time self-triggered mechanism (STM) by which the next impulse instant can be predicted directly by the information of the comparison system. Moreover, the resulting algorithm is easy to be implemented. It is shown that the designed STIC strategy can not only achieve a tradeoff between computational complexity, communication resource usage and control performance, but also has strong robustness and flexibility. Finally, an illustrative simulation is provided showing the effectiveness of the results.

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been documented to function differently in numerous human cancers. Our study planned to investigate the role of microRNA-140 (miR-140) and to identify its possible target in osteosarcoma (OS) to predict their mechanism in OS. The miR-140 was down-regulated in OS, and its high expression decreased MG63 cell proliferation. At the molecular level, Wnt1 was a target of miR-140, and its expression could be suppressed by miR-140. Besides, miR-140 overexpression decreased drug resistance in OS cells treated by doxorubicin. Collectively, overexpression of miR-140 may inhibit human OS cell proliferation and may enhance drug sensitivity by direct regulation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling.

Abstract Background: Abnormal anillin (ANLN) expression has been observed in multiple tumours and is closely associated with patient prognosis and clinical features. In this study, we systematically elucidated the clinical significance and biological roles of ANLN in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Methods: We obtained transcriptome and clinical data of patients with ccRCC from public databases. Multi-omics data and clinical samples were combined to analyse the correlation between ANLN expression and the clinical characteristics of patients with renal cancer. Additionally, the immune cell landscape of ANLN expression was evaluated using different immune algorithms in the tumour microenvironment. The tumour-promoting potential of ANLN was confirmed using in vitro assays, including CCK8 and Transwell assays. Results: Bioinformatics analysis showed that ANLN is over-expressed in patients with ccRCC, as validated by clinical samples. Publicly available clinical data suggest that high ANLN expression may indicate poor outcomes in patients with ccRCC. Moreover, biological function analysis revealed a marked enrichment of the cell cycle and PI3K-Akt pathways. The distribution of immune cells, particularly M2 macrophages, differed in patients with ccRCC. Furthermore, ANLN silencing inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of renal cancer cells in vitro. After ANLN expression was knocked down in 786-O cells, the protein levels of important PI3K signalling pathway components, including PI3K, Akt, and mTOR, drastically decreased. Conclusions: These findings suggest that ANLN is dysregulated in renal cancer tissues and promotes tumour progression by activating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling pathway.

Abstract With the development of cloud technology and the innovation of information network technology, people’s dependence on the network has gradually increased, and there are some loopholes in cloud data access. The traditional account permission model can no longer meet the conditions of cloud data access alone. If the visitor temporarily leaves the computer or goes out in an emergency, the data are likely to be leaked. Based on the importance and concern of this issue, some scholars have proposed an authentication system combined with biometric face recognition, but the traditional face recognition system has certain security risks. Such as using face pictures and videos to deceive the system, tampering with face templates, etc. Based on this, this paper proposes an encrypted face authentication system based on CNN neural network. Through the authentication of face data, the content transmission of each part is carried out in the form of ciphertext to ensure the security of information. The experimental results in this paper show that the authentication accuracy rate of DeepID is 94% when it is not encrypted, and the authentication accuracy rate decreases slightly after encryption, which is 93.3%. It is similar in other cases. When the network structure and data set remain unchanged, encryption reduces the authentication accuracy rate by 0.3%–2.4%. It can be seen that the scheme proposed in this chapter improves the system security at the cost of a smaller accuracy rate.
