Abstract The Epigravettian of Santa Maria d’Agnano site is represented by a SMA-Extern layer (SU4). The present study resorts to a micromorphological analysis to clarify the depositional and the post-depositional process of the open air site in front of the Santa Maria d’Agnano cave. Epigravettian samples from the open air level (SU4), spanning from 18013-17587 CalBC to 9752-9298 CalBC are analysed. Results show a complex microstructure due to the combination of the pedological deposition mode and the anthropogenic input. Variable amounts of centimetric sub-angular limestone confirm the deposition from the roof fall. Bone, charcoal fragments and micro-artefacts are present throughout the micromorphological column and are considered as indicators of human activity. The groundmass contains ferruginous pedofeatures such as nodules, mottles and coatings. The latter are derived from a local degraded soil in the immediate surroundings or may be formed in situ. Locally, spar and microspar were precipitated inside voids. Such features can probably be formed by the reprecipitation of carbonates after a partial dissolution of cryoclasts. These thin sections provide little evidence for anthropogenic input and a general event that includes soil phases. The study of the lithic industry confirms the existence of a chronostratigraphy that spreads over a period of seven thousand years. In this culturally homogeneous context some changes can be noticed thanks to the more or less frequent presence of some tools. The background appears Epigravettian, since it is characterized throughout the chrono-sequence by the recurring presence of straight back points, Gravette type.

Abstract Given the key role played by ClC-K chloride channels in kidney and inner ear physiology and pathology, they can be considered important targets for drug discovery. Indeed, ClC-Ka and ClC-Kb inhibition would interfere with the urine countercurrent concentration mechanism in Henle's loop, which is responsible for the reabsorption of water and electrolytes from the collecting duct, producing a diuretic and antihypertensive effect. On the other hand, ClC-K/barttin channel dysfunctions in Bartter Syndrome with or without deafness will require the pharmacological recovery of channel expression and/or activity. In these cases, a channel activator or chaperone would be appealing. Starting from a brief description of the physio-pathological role of ClC-K channels in renal function, this review aims to provide an overview of the recent progress in the discovery of ClC-K channel modulators.

Abstract Objective: The paediatric caregiver version of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI-PC) questionnaire is a useful Quality of Life (QoL) evaluation instrument for children experiencing dizziness, vertigo or unsteadiness. Its English version has been validated for use with a paediatric population between 5 and 12 years of age. The aim of this work is to validate the DHI-PC into Italian for both patient assessment and appropriate rehabilitative treatment planning.
Materials and methods: Cross-cultural adaptation of the DHI-PC was performed using standard techniques. Items of the original questionnaire were translated into Italian by two bilingual investigators. Two native English speakers carried out a back translation of the new version that was compared with the original to check that they had the same semantic value. A pre-final version was obtained by an expert committee and was applied in a pilot test.
Results: A total of 42 patient caregivers completed the final adapted questionnaire twice with an interval of 2 weeks. Internal consistency was excellent, with Cronbach's alpha = 0.95.
Conclusions: Our study showed evidence that the Italian version of DHI-PC is a valid and reliable tool to quantify the degree of dizziness handicap and its application is recommended.

Abstract Introduction: This work aims at transposing ethnographic research into digital contexts to probe its potential and limitations in a specific field of study: that of sexuality, particularly suited to ethnographic exploration. We chose as our case study a web community of Italian asexual people. As we shall see, this allowed us to simultaneously explore both the various techniques called into play in digital ethnography and the digital as a specific sphere within which sexuality takes on a very peculiar meaning. Digital sociality is paramount for the definition of imaginaries, meanings, and practices that could not be explored elsewhere. This is due to the implicit characteristics of the population studied, which does not find corresponding physical spaces of aggregation.
Methods: The paper will present the research design using this specific case study to address some of the typical dilemmas that researchers face when following the digital ethnographic approach and will explore the research results as an example of the kind of analysis available with the information and data collected through this method.
Results and discussion: The conclusions will attempt to briefly outline the shortfalls and advantages of this method, considering its application to this specific field of study.

Abstract Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease with a rising incidence. It is projected to become the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality by 2030. The staging of pancreatic cancer can be broadly categorized into three groups: resectable cancers, locally advanced or borderline resectable cancers, and metastatic cancers. Endoscopy plays a crucial role in the management of pancreatic cancer for the establishment of the diagnosis, for palliation of symptoms due to biliary and/or gastric outlet obstructions, and more recently, for palliative ablation of cancer. The objective of this review is to provide an overview of the endoscopic evaluation and management of patients with pancreatic cancer. It will specifically cover the diagnostic approach utilizing endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), palliative interventions such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and the emerging field of tumor debulking through radiofrequency ablation (RFA).

Abstract Plant proteases are essential enzymes that play key roles during crucial phases of plant life. Some proteases are mainly involved in general protein turnover and recycle amino acids for protein synthesis. Other proteases are involved in cell signalling, cleave specific substrates and are key players during important genetically controlled molecular processes. Cathepsin B is a cysteine protease that can do both because of its exopeptidase and endopeptidase activities. Animal cathepsin B has been investigated for many years, and much is known about its mode of action and substrate preferences, but much remains to be discovered about this potent protease in plants. Cathepsin B is involved in plant development, germination, senescence, microspore embryogenesis, pathogen defence and responses to abiotic stress, including programmed cell death. This review discusses the structural features, the activity of the enzyme and the differences between the plant and animal forms. We discuss its maturation and subcellular localisation and provide a detailed overview of the involvement of cathepsin B in important plant life processes. A greater understanding of the cell signalling processes involving cathepsin B is needed for applied discoveries in plant biotechnology.
