Abstract Schwannomas, also known as neurilemmomas, are characteristically benign, slow growing neoplasms originating from Schwann cell sheath. Gastrointestinal schwannomas are very rare with stomach being the most affected organ representing approximately 0.2% of all gastric tumours. Malignant transformation is rarely reported in these tumors and complete surgical resection with negative margins is the recommended treatment. Herein, we report our experience of 2 cases of gastric submucosal spindle cell tumour (SMT), which were preoperatively assumed to be as gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), however postoperatively confirmed as schwannoma on immunohistochemical examination.

Abstract Purpose: Orthokeratology (ortho-K) has been well established as a methodology for myopia correction and control its progression. A SWOT analysis serves as a strategic planning tool for intervention hence the purpose of this study to establish and implement ortho-K practice in India.
Method: The study was conducted between December 2020 and June 2021. A prospective questionnaire-based study was conducted to elicit the responses in the SWOT study. Based on focus group discussion a set of five statements under strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were identified. These were closed ended questions were based on a 5-point likert scale. The Content Validation Index (CVI) was computed for each item taking those answers relevant with a score of three and four on the Likert scale and omitting those with a score of one and two on the Likert scale as non-relevant.
Results: Strengths: 'Ortho-K is an excellent option for myopia control' was agreed by more than 50% of respondents. 67% of respondents agreed that advanced topographers has made ortho-K lens fitting easier. Weakness: More than 60% agreed that Ortho-K practice involves investment in instrumentation like topographers and trial lenses. 50% agreed that due to multiple follow up patients may be lost to follow up.
Opportunity: 'Pandemic has necessitated the need for optometrists to explore myopia control options such as ortho-K' was agreed by more than 50%. Threats: 'Reluctance from adults and parents to try overnight contact lenses for myopia correction/control' was agreed by more than 50% of respondents. 62% agreed that atropine is perceived as an effective myopia control option by majority of the Indian ophthalmologists.
Conclusion: Ortho-K as an emerging modality for Myopia management in India through SWOT analysis, allows practitioners as well as CL industry to approach Ortho-K appropriately with novel designs and practice patterns that suits the market needs.

Abstract A unified synthetic strategy for oseltamivir phosphate (tamiflu), (S)-pipecolic acid, and its 3-hydroxy derivatives from furan derived common chiral bicycloaziridino lactone synthon is described here. Key features are the short (4-steps), enantiopure, and decagram-scale synthesis of common chiral synthon from furan and its first-ever application in the total synthesis of biologically active compounds by taking the advantages of high functionalization ability of chiral synthon.

Abstract A decarboxylative cyanation of amino acids under paired electrochemical reaction conditions has been developed. 4-CN-pyridine was found to be a new and effective cyanation reagent under catalyst-free conditions. Mechanistic studies support a nucleophilic reaction pathway, and the cyanation protocol can be applied to diverse substrates including N,N-dialkyl aniline and indole derivatives.

Abstract Background: The cancer registry provides reliable data from the population. In this article, we provide cancer burden and its patterns from the Varanasi district.
Methods: The method adopted by the Varanasi cancer registry is community interaction along with regular visits to more than 60 sources to collect data on cancer patients. The cancer registry was established by the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, in 2017 covering 4 million population (57% rural and 43% urban population).
Results: The registry has recorded 1,907 incidence cases (1,058 male and 849 female). The age-adjusted incidence rate per 100,000 population in male and female of Varanasi district is 59.2 and 52.1, respectively. One in 15 male and one in 17 female are at risk of developing the disease. Mouth and tongue cancers are the predominant cancers in male, whereas breast, cervix uteri, and gallbladder are the leading cancer sites among the female. In female, cervix uteri cancer is significantly higher (double) in rural areas when compared with urban areas (rate ratio [RR] 0.5, 95% confidence interval [CI; 0.36, 0.72]), whereas in male, mouth cancer is higher in urban areas when compared with rural areas (RR 1.4, 95% CI [1.11, 1.72]). More than 50% of cancer cases in male are due to tobacco consumption. There may be underreporting of the cases.
Conclusion: The results of the registry warrant policies and activities related to early detection services for the mouth, cervix uteri, and breast cancers. The Varanasi cancer registry is the foundation for cancer control and will play an important role in the evaluation of the interventions.

Abstract Primary hepatic tuberculosis is a rare entity and can closely mimic malignancy with respect to clinical presentation and imaging features. We identified five patients at a high volume tertiary care cancer center, whose clinical features and imaging closely mimicked primary liver malignancy or metastases but final histopathology was suggestive of hepatic tuberculosis. Three patients underwent a surgical resection whereas two were diagnosed on a biopsy. Anti-tuberculosis therapy was started for all the patients which was well tolerated. All patients are doing well at the time of the last follow up. This case series stresses the importance of having a high index of suspicion and preoperative biopsy in cases where imaging features are equivocal.
