Abstract Abstract Metalation of the anions in the ionic liquids DMPyr[SH] and DMPyr[SeH] (DMPyr=1,1‐dimethylpyrrolidinium) by trimethylgallium and trimethylindium is investigated. The reaction proceeds via pre‐coordination of [EH]−, methane elimination and formation of an unprecedented series of chalcogenido metalates DMPyr2[Me2M(μ2−E)]2 (M=Ga, In; E=S, Se). These show the presences of dinuclear dianions with four‐membered ring structures displaying highly nucleophilic bridging chalcogenide ligands in their crystallographically determined molecular structures. Some representative reactions of these building blocks with amphoteric electrophiles were studied: Addition of two equivalents of E(SiMe3)2 (E=S, Se) to the indates DMPyr2[Me2In(μ2−S)]2 and DMPyr2[Me2In(μ2−Se)]2 leads to a cleavage of the ring, E silylation and formation of mononuclear, monoanionic indates DMPyr[Me2In(SSiMe3)2], DMPyr[Me2In(SeSiMe3)2], and even a mixed sulfido‐selenido dimethylindate DMPyr[Me2In(SSiMe3)(SeSiMe3)]. Reaction of DMPyr2[Me2In(μ2−S)]2 with two equivalents of Lewis acid Me3In leads to charge delocalization, ring expansion and formation of six‐membered ring DMPyr3[Me2In(μ2−S−InMe3)]3. The latter is a key intermediate in the formation of dianionic sulfidoindate DMPyr2[(Me2In)6(μ3−S)4] displaying an unusual inverse heteroadamantane cage structure with four capping sulfido ligands.

Abstract: ... gauche conformation of the silyl substituents with respect to the central axis Si-[E-M-E]-Si ...

Abstract The syntheses and XRD molecular structures of a complete series of silylsulfido metalates Cat[M(SSiMe3)2] (M = Cu, Ag, Au) and corresponding silylselenido metalates Cat[M(SeSiMe3)2] (M = Cu, Ag, Au) comprising lattice stabilizing organic cations (Cat = Ph4P+ or PPN+) are reported. Much to our surprise these homoleptic cuprates, argentates, and aurates are stable enough to be isolated even in the absence of any strongly binding phosphines or N-heterocyclic carbenes as coligands. Their metal atoms are coordinated by two silylchalcogenido ligands in a linear fashion. The silyl moieties of all anions show an unexpected gauche conformation of the silyl substituents with respect to the central axis Si-[E-M-E]-Si in the solid state. The energetic preference for the gauche conformation is confirmed by quantum chemical calculations and amounts to about 2-6 kJ/mol, thus revealing a rather shallow potential mainly depending on electronic effects of the metal. Furthermore, 2D HMQC methods were applied to detect the otherwise nonobservable NMR shifts of the 29Si and 77Se nuclei of the silylselenido compounds. Preliminary investigations reveal that these thermally and protolytically labile chalcogenido metalates are valuable precursors for the precipitation of binary coinage metal chalcogenide nanoparticles from organic solution and for coinage metal cluster syntheses.

Abstract Escherichia coli is a rod-shaped intestinal bacterium which has a size of 1.1-1.5 µm x 2.0-6.0 µm. The fast cell division process and the uncomplicated living conditions have turned E. coli into a widely used host in genetic engineering and into one of the best studied microorganisms of all. We used E. coli BL21(DE3) as host for heterologous expression of S-layer proteins of Lysinibacillus sphaericus JG-A12 in order to enable a fast and high efficient protein production. The S-layer expression induced in E. coli an unusual elongation of the cells, thus producing filaments of > 100 µm in length. In the stationary growth phase, E. coli filaments develop tube-like structures that contain E. coli single cells. Fluorescence microscopic analyses of S-layer expressing E. coli cells that were stained with membrane stain FM (®) 5-95 verify the membrane origin of the tubes. Analyses of DAPI stained GFP-S-layer expressing E. coli support the assumption of a disordered cell division that is induced by the huge amount of recombinant S-layer proteins. However, the underlying mechanism is still not characterized in detail. These results describe the occurrence of a novel stable cell form of E. coli as a result of a disordered cell division process.

Abstract With objective of to diagnose the deterioration socioeconomic, environmental and to evaluatethe morphometric characteristics of the microbasin of the Stream Happiness’s, the study areawas visited, applying itself questionnaires in a sample of the local population. The social deterioration(S) it is of 46%, considered medium, because the education level, feeding and the work conditions are good in the region. For the economical factor (E) it was obtained 48%, highvalue, because the properties are of average the high productivity, with medium income varyingfrom 5 to 15 minimum wages, besides counting with technical support and to be cooperated. For the technological factor (T) it was obtained 32%, low value, due to the type of local exploration. For the socioeconomic factor (S+E+T) it was obtained 44%, considered loud, that itshould limit the conditions of life of the producer, however this is not observed. The calculatedenvironmental deterioration is of 15%, below the expected, being this justified value for theconstant fiscalization and investments in the recovery of the area, mainly after the rail accidenthappened in June of 2003. The microbasin has a more prolonged form, being proven for Ic060, Kc 0,98 and Kf of 0,15, besides Dd of 1,10 km/km2 and the declivity of the 1,20% basin. These associated values show an area without problems of inundations and erosions alongthe Stream. The indexes obtained don’t still demonstrate a high environmental deterioration.

    Series title IGB Policy Brief
Abstract The man-made environmental disaster in the summer of 2022, resulting in masses of dead fish, mussels and snails, has caused severe damage to the Oder River ecosystem. Policymakers, authorities, NGOs and the public are currently discussing how the river can be helped – and how the risk of such major ecological and economic damage can be reduced in the future. This IGB Policy Brief provides a concise summary of what is known about the causes of the fish kill, and what measures we recommend to policymakers and authorities to restore and preserve the River Oder habitat and its important ecosystem services. The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), Germany’s largest freshwater research centre, has been working on the Oder for decades. On this basis, IGB scientists identify problem areas and evidencebased recommendations for action.

Abstract This text seeks to reframe the widely known and well-researched topic of “Humboldt and Slavery” biographically and subscribes to a simple premise: In the decades following his voyage through the American tropics (1799 –1804), Humboldt goes through various stages in addressing the topic of slavery. In the course of these stages, which by no means follow a chronological order but run partly parallel, Humboldt assumes different social roles that fi nd expression in specifi c attitudes and actions. Taken together, they draw a psychogram typical for understanding Humboldt’s personality: a self-confi dent moralist, a rigorous scientist, a politically reserved activist. Resumen El objetivo de este texto es reclasificar desde un punto de vista biográfico el ampliamente conocido e investigado tema de „Humboldt y la esclavitud“ y se guía por la siguiente tesis: Humboldt pasa por varias fases en su interés por el tema de la esclavitud en las décadas posteriores a su viaje por los trópicos americanos (1799 –1804). En el transcurso de estas fases, que no siguen en absoluto un orden cronológico sino que transcurren en parte paralelamente, Humboldt asume diferentes ...
