Abstract Family honour, protecting and upholding the family name, is central to familism. Yet, it has been somewhat neglected by scholarship on Latin American and Latino families. Familism involves prioritising the family over the individual. Likewise, the family of origin holds particular significance, offering material, social and emotional support, and shaping one's identity, honour and sense of belonging. Heteronormativity and patriarchy portray queer individuals as the causes of family shame. This study examined how family honour, as a component of familism, operates within kin dynamics, specifically focusing on same-sex cohabitation, as this living arrangement serves as a tangible expression of a non-normative sexual orientation. A life course perspective was used to study 24 cases of cohabiting lesbian, gay and bi/pansexual individuals in Chile. The results show the enduring significance of families in providing support, sociability, identity, and a sense of belonging. Nevertheless, it reveals notable instances of family rejection towards queer kin. In Chile, both families of origin and queer individuals employ subtle strategies to conceal their queerness, guided by notions of 'respect' associated with family honour and decency. These strategies involve unspoken agreements to maintain family bonds through discreet displays of queer behaviour without explicit acknowledgement of sexual identity.

Abstract Human photoreceptors consist of cones, rods, and melanopsin-expressing intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs). First studied in circadian regulation and pupillary control, ipRGCs project to a variety of brain centers suggesting a broader involvement beyond non-visual functions. IpRGC responses are stable, long-lasting, and with a particular codification of photoreceptor signals. In comparison with the transient and adaptive nature of cone and rod signals, ipRGCs' signaling might provide an ecological advantage to different attributes of color vision. Previous studies have indicated melanopsin's influence on visual responses yet its contribution to color perception in humans remains debated. We summarized evidence and hypotheses (from physiology, psychophysics, and natural image statistics) about direct and indirect involvement of ipRGCs in human color vision, by first briefly assessing the current knowledge about the role of melanopsin and ipRGCs in vision and codification of spectral signals. We then approached the question about melanopsin activation eliciting a color percept, discussing studies using the silent substitution method. Finally, we explore various avenues through which ipRGCs might impact color perception indirectly, such as through involvement in peripheral color matching, post-receptoral pathways, color constancy, long-term chromatic adaptation, and chromatic induction. While there is consensus about the role of ipRGCs in brightness perception, confirming its direct contribution to human color perception requires further investigation. We proposed potential approaches for future research, emphasizing the need for empirical validation and methodological thoroughness to elucidate the exact role of ipRGCs in human color vision.

Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a comorbidity that is present in 20% to 30% of the patients with coronary artery disease and an indication for revascularization. Also, it poses a scenario of greater complexity for several reasons. The presence of diabetes is associated with more extensive, diffuse, calcified coronary artery disease, and graft and stent failure. All of it is associated with a higher risk of repeat revascularizations and worse prognosis for the patients, which is why diabetes is a differential element here since it establishes the revascularization method in patients with multivessel disease based on the clinical practice guidelines.1 Currently, the recommendation of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is superior to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in diabetic patients. This indication comes from numerous studies being the FREEDOM trial2 one of the most important of all. However, are patients from the routine clinical practice or real-world patients similar to those included in these clinical trials? In this sense, the study conducted by Puyol-Ruiz et al.3 recently published in REC: Interventional Cardiology provides valuable observational information on the results of coronary revascularization in diabetic patients in the routine clinical practice. This study shows the results from a historical cohort (2012-2014) of 733 patients with.
