    Abstract BACKGROUND Anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) is the most easily injured or even broken of ankle sprain. Patients who fail to receive conservative treatment, resulting in persistent ankle swelling, painful and functional decline that it is so-called chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI). It makes sense to investigate all-inside arthroscopic reconstruction of ATFL with InternalBrace™ for CLAI. MATERIAL AND METHODS We included 108 patients who underwent all-inside arthroscopic ATFL reconstruction with InternalBrace™ for CLAI from January 2018 to April 2020 through a retrospective study. Patients age ranged from 19 to 58 years (mean 35.6±8.7 years). Several elements are used to evaluate the clinical consequences of ankle function, including the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot Ankle-Hindfoot (JSSF), Kofoed, Tegner scores and complications, and the tilt angle of talus (TT) and the anterior displacement of talus (ADT) with stressing radiographs were taken to measure in follow-ups. RESULTS All 108 patients had all-inside arthroscopic procedures performed smoothly without serious complications. During the follow-up period (26.7±2.6 months on average), no recurrence of ankle instability and other serious complications happened. The AOFAS, JSSF, Kofoed, and Tegner scores significantly increased as time went by postoperatively, which proved statistically significant (P<0.01). Regarding stress-radiographic measurements, TT significantly decreased from (9.5±1.1)° preoperatively to (2.6±0.6)° at the latest follow-up (P<0.01), while ADT significantly decreased from (9.5±1.0) mm preoperatively to (2.6±0.6) mm at the latest examination (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS All-inside arthroscopic ATFL reconstruction with the InternalBrace™ for CLAI is beneficial for ankle stability, allowing earlier return to activities.

    Abstract Aim: The objective of this study is to explore the impact and underlying mechanism of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi stem and leaf flavonoids (SSFs) on cognitive impairment caused by intracerebroventricular injection of okadaic acid (OA) in rats.
    Methods: An experimental model of Alzheimer's disease (AD) was induced in rats by intracerebroventricular injection of OA, resulting in memory impairment. The Morris water maze test was employed to confirm the successful establishment of the memory impairment model. The rats that exhibited significant memory impairment were randomly divided into different groups, including a model group, three SSFs dose groups (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg), and a positive control group treated with Ginkgo biloba tablets (GLT) at a dose of 200 mg/kg. To evaluate the learning and memory abilities of the rats, the Morris water maze test was conducted. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining was used to observe any morphological changes in neurons. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was performed to measure the expression of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) protein. Western blotting (WB) was utilized to assess the phosphorylation levels of tau protein at Ser262 and Ser396. The activities of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and constitutive nitric oxide synthase (cNOS) were quantified using ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The levels of inflammatory factors, including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6), were measured using ELISA.
    Results: In rats, the administration of OA via intracerebroventricular injection resulted in cognitive impairment, neuropathological changes, and alterations in protein expression and activity levels. Specifically, the protein expression of ChAT was significantly reduced (P<0.01), while the phosphorylation levels of tau protein at Ser262 and Ser396 were significantly increased (P<0.01). Moreover, iNOS activity in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex exhibited a significant increase (P<0.01), whereas cNOS activity showed a decrease (P<0.05). Furthermore, the levels of IL-1β and TNF-α in the cerebral cortex were elevated (P<0.01), while the level of IL-6 was decreased (P<0.05). The administration of three doses of SSFs and GLT to rats exhibited varying degrees of improvement in the aforementioned pathological alterations induced by OA.
    Conclusion: SSFs demonstrated the ability to enhance cognitive function and mitigate memory deficits in rats following intracerebroventricular injection of OA. This beneficial effect may be attributed to the modulation of ChAT protein expression, tau hyperphosphorylation, NOS activity, and inflammatory cytokine levels by SSFs.

    Abstract This study was designed to investigate the correlation of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and interleukin (IL)-37/IL-17 ratio with the incidence/treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Firstly, fifty-eight patients with RA treated at the first affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from January 2018 to January 2019 were selected as the RA group; forty-nine healthy volunteers were enrolled in the control group. RA patients were treated with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). Next, the NLR, PLR, IL-37, IL-17 and 28-joint disease activity score using erythrocyte sedimentation rate (DAS28-ESR) were deleted in two groups. Subsequently, Spearman correlation analysis was adopted for the correlations of various indicators before and after treatment in two groups. According to the analysis results, the levels of NLR, PLR, IL-37, and IL-17 before treatment in the RA group were higher than those in the control group (

    Abstract Improving soil fertility is one of the key approaches for ecological restoration of the wind-sand area in northwest Liaoning Province. Taking wind-sand area in northwest Liaoning Province as test object, we conducted a fertilization experiment with treatments of inorganic fertilizer (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers), organic fertilizer, combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers, and organic fertilizer combined with a biologically organic matrix (γ-polyglutamic acid), and no fertilizer as control. We measured soil organic matter content and extractable cations concentrations, vegetation coverage, and biomass under different fertilization treatments and determine the suitable fertilization mode.     Abstract Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a common musculoskeletal disorder that contributes significantly to disability and healthcare costs. Serum urate concentration has been implicated in the development of various musculoskeletal conditions. While previous observational studies have suggested an association between the two conditions, it might confound the effect of serum urate concentrations on IDD.     Abstract Nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) are large multidomain enzymes for the synthesis of a variety of bioactive peptides in a modular and pipelined fashion. Here, we investigated how the condensation (C) domain and the adenylation (A) domain cooperate with each other for the efficient catalytic activity in microcystin NRPS modules. We solved two crystal structures of the microcystin NRPS modules, representing two different conformations in the NRPS catalytic cycle. Our data reveal that the dynamic interaction between the C and the A domains in these modules is mediated by the conserved "RXGR" motif, and this interaction is important for the adenylation activity. Furthermore, the "RXGR" motif-mediated dynamic interaction and its functional regulation are prevalent in different NRPSs modules possessing both the A and the C domains. This study provides new insights into the catalytic mechanism of NRPSs and their engineering strategy for synthetic peptides with different structures and properties.

    Abstract Since December 2019, a number of patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) have been identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. NCP has rapidly spread to other provinces and cities in China and other countries in the world. Due to the rapid increase in reported cases in China and around the world, on January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Committee announced that NCP is a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). However, there are relatively few suggestions and measures for tumor patients, especially patients with head and neck tumors. This article summarizes the prevention and control of disease in our medical institution to provide a reference for front-line head and neck surgeons.
