Abstract Ginsenoside Rg3 (GS-Rg3), a sterol molecule isolated from ginseng, has demonstrated various immunological properties, including inhibition of cancer cell proliferation and metastasis, reversal of drug resistance and enhancement of chemotherapy sensitivity. The recent surge in attention towards GS-Rg3 can be attributed to its potential as an antitumor angiogenesis agent and as a therapeutic candidate for immunotherapy. The development of GS-Rg3 as an agent for these purposes has accelerated research on its mechanisms of action. The present review summarizes recent studies investigating the antitumor activity of GS-Rg3 and its underlying mechanisms, as well as providing essential information for future studies on GS-Rg3.

Abstract The primary challenge in mercury (Hg) adsorbents for large-scale practical applications is to achieve the balance between performance and economy. This work attempts to address this issue by synthesizing an exfoliated thiocellulose (CU-SH) with high thiol density and hierarchical porosity using in-situ ligands grafting combined with chemical stripping. The prepared CU-SH shows remarkable physical stability and chemical resistance, and the micron sized fiber is conducive to separation from water. Hg(II) adsorption tests in water demonstrate that CU-SH has broad working pH range (1-12), fast kinetics (0.64 g/(mg‧min)), high adsorption capacity (652.9 mg/g), outstanding selectivity (K

Abstract In vehicle navigation, it is quite common that the dynamic system is subject to various constraints, which increases the difficulty in nonlinear filtering. To address this issue, this paper presents a new constrained cubature particle filter (CCPF) for vehicle navigation. Firstly, state constraints are incorporated in the importance sampling process of the traditional cubature particle filter to enhance the accuracy of the importance density function. Subsequently, the Euclidean distance is employed to optimize the resampling process by adjusting particle weights to avoid particle degradation. Further, the convergence of the proposed CCPF is also rigorously proved, showing that the posterior probability function is converged when the particle number

Abstract Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are small particles secreted by numerous cell types and circulate in almost all body fluids, acting as crucial messengers for cell-to-cell communication. EVs involves multiple physiological and pathological processes, including tumor progression, via their multiple cargoes. Therefore, EVs have become attractive candidates for the treatment of tumor, including melanoma. Notably, due to the crucial role of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in promoting tumor malignant phenotype, and the close intercellular communication in TME, EVs-based therapy by targeting TME has become a cutting-edge and prospective strategy for inhibiting melanoma progression and strengthening the anti-tumor immunity. In this review, we aimed to summarize and discuss the role of therapeutic EVs, which target the components of TME in melanoma, thereby providing insights into these promising clinical strategies for the treatment of melanoma patients.

Abstract Medical imaging plays a crucial role in modern healthcare by providing non-invasive visualisation of internal structures and abnormalities, enabling early disease detection, accurate diagnosis, and treatment planning. This study aims to explore the application of deep learning models, particularly focusing on the UNet architecture and its variants, in medical image segmentation. We seek to evaluate the performance of these models across various challenging medical image segmentation tasks, addressing issues such as image normalization, resizing, architecture choices, loss function design, and hyperparameter tuning. The findings reveal that the standard UNet, when extended with a deep network layer, is a proficient medical image segmentation model, while the Res-UNet and Attention Res-UNet architectures demonstrate smoother convergence and superior performance, particularly when handling fine image details. The study also addresses the challenge of high class imbalance through careful preprocessing and loss function definitions. We anticipate that the results of this study will provide useful insights for researchers seeking to apply these models to new medical imaging problems and offer guidance and best practices for their implementation.

Abstract We demonstrate a fiber-optic strain sensor with high and tunable sensitivity by constructing a Fabry-Perot interferometer with tunable stretching length. By improving the ratio of stretching length to interference length for the proposed sensor, the measured strain sensitivity is up to 1932 pm/με, which is an order of magnitude higher than the maximum value of reported fiber-optic strain sensors so far. The sensitivity for a prepared sensor could be also tuned conveniently by changing the stretching length, and experimental results show that the sensitivity could be tuned from 1932 to 978 pm/με by reducing the stretching length from 12 to 6 mm. Furthermore, the proposed device is economical, straightforward, robust, and reproducible. The advantages make the proposed device promising in practical applications.

Abstract In order to develop an N6-methyladenosine-related gene prognostic index (m6A-GPI) that can predict the prognosis in colorectal cancer (CRC), we obtained m6A-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and m6Avar database, seven genes were screened by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis. Then, m6A-GPI was constructed based on the risk score. Survival analysis indicated that patients in the lower m6A-GPI group have more prolonged disease-free survival (DFS), and different clinical characteristic groups (tumor site and stage) also showed differential risk scores. In the analysis of the molecular characteristics, the risk score is positively associated with homologous recombination defects (HRD), copy number alterations (CNA), and the mRNA expression-based stemness index (mRNAsi). In addition, m6A-GPI also plays an essential role in tumor immune cell infiltration. The immune cell infiltration in the low m6A-GPI group is significantly higher in CRC. Moreover, we found that CIITA, one of the genes in m6A-GPI was up-regulated in CRC tissues based on real-time RT-PCR and Western blot. m6A-GPI is a promising prognostic biomarker that can be used to distinguish the prognosis of CRC patients in CRC.

Abstract Cancerous skin lesions are one of the most common malignancies detected in humans, and if not detected at an early stage, they can lead to death. Therefore, it is crucial to have access to accurate results early on to optimize the chances of survival. Unfortunately, accurate results are typically obtained by highly trained dermatologists, who may not be accessible to many people, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries. Artificial Intelligence (AI) appears to be a potential solution to this problem, as it has proven to provide equal or even better diagnoses than healthcare professionals. This project aims to address the issue by collecting state-of-the-art techniques for image classification from various fields and implementing them. Some of these techniques include mixup, presizing, and test-time augmentation, among others. Three architectures were used for the implementation: DenseNet121, VGG16 with batch normalization, and ResNet50. The models were designed with two main purposes. First, to classify images into seven categories, including melanocytic nevus, melanoma, benign keratosis-like lesions, basal cell carcinoma, actinic keratoses and intraepithelial carcinoma, vascular lesions, and dermatofibroma. Second, to classify images into benign or malignant. The models were trained using a dataset of 8012 images, and their performance was evaluated using 2003 images. It's worth noting that this model is trained end-to-end, directly from the image to the labels, without the need for handcrafted feature extraction.
