Abstract The lifetime risk of heart failure (HF) is comparable in men and women; nevertheless, disparities exist in our understanding of how HF differs between sexes. Several differences in cardiac physiology exist between men and women including the propensity to develop specific HF phenotypes. Men are more likely to be diagnosed with HF failure with reduced ejection fraction, while women have a greater propensity to develop HF with preserved ejection fraction. The mechanisms responsible for these differences remain unclear. Post-translational modifications (PTMs) of myofilament proteins likely contribute to these sex-specific propensities. The role of PTMs in heart disease is an expanding field with immense potential therapeutic targets. However, numerous PTMs remain underexplored, particularly in the context of the female heart. Estrogen, a key gonadal hormone, cardioprotective in pre-menopausal women and its loss with menopause likely contributes to disease in aging women. However, how estrogen regulates PTMs to contribute to HF development is not fully clear. This review outlines key sex differences in HF along with characterizing the contributions of novel myocardial PTMs in cardiac physiology and their regulation by estrogen. Collectively, we highlight the necessity for further investigation into women's heart health and the distinctive mechanisms distinguishing women from men.

Abstract Objective: Behavioral parent training (BPT) is the standard of care for early onset behavior disorders (BDs), however, not all families benefit. Emotion regulation (ER) is one potential mechanism underlying BPT outcomes, yet there are challenges in capturing intra- and interpersonal aspects of emotion regulation within parent-child interactions that are central to BPT. This study examined how vocally encoded emotional arousal unfolds during parent-child interactions and how parents and children influence each other's arousal (Aim 1), the links between these emotion dynamics, child behavior, and parenting at baseline (Aim 2), and BPT outcome (Aim 3).
Method: Families of children with BDs (

Conclusions: This preliminary characterization of f0 in families presenting for BPT provides insights into the emotion dynamics potentially underlying parenting behavior and child behavior. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved).

Abstract Obesity continues to be a global health problem with significant costs associated with management, treatment, and obesity-related comorbidities. Tier 3 weight management programmes support patients with complex obesity and traditionally offer interventions through face-to-face delivery. In this study, a service evaluation compared weight loss for adults with a BMI ≥ 45 kg/m

Abstract Background: Childbearing women engage in large public pregnancy and parenting forums, primarily for the purpose of seeking information and advice. There is an absence of research related to women's engagement in closed and private online mothers' groups.
Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of participation and support for members within a closed online mothers' group.
Method: A qualitative study using in-depth interviews. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyse the data.
Findings: This study demonstrated that a closed online mothers' group enabled a group of childbearing women to overcome isolation and form sustained, evolving and supportive friendships within a small, private and trusted group. The technology allowed women to engage and share at a level much deeper than what they would in "real life". The depth of sharing was enhanced in a closed online mothers' group due to a smaller, private audience of trusted friends. Virtual support felt safer than face-to-face support as information could not impact one's real world reputation, and communication was able to be controlled. This was particularly helpful to women experiencing social difficulties or isolation.
Conclusion: This study has provided a unique and rare insight into the private world of closed online mothers' groups. As a virtual village, this closed group enabled childbearing women to form a small community with members sharing responsibility and working for the wellbeing and benefit of all. By encouraging, locating and establishing similar groups, maternity health professionals may assist women to access their own 'virtual village'.
