Abstract The digital transformation taking place across all sectors and the associated increase in the importance of research data in gaining knowledge or innovating new technologies poses enormous challenges for the workforce, policy makers, funders, educational institutions, etc. In particular, it is essential to equip everyone with the skills or skill sets that are required (i) to handle the many facets of data, (ii) to understand their various constraints, (iii) to be able to make informed decisions about the appropriate use of available technologies, and (iv) to gain "wisdom" from the data. It is therefore crucial to start teaching basic skills while at school and to deepen them as early as possible, e.g. in academic training programmes. The field of data literacy tackles these issues and is an attempt to systematise tasks and corresponding skills by way of one or more frameworks. According to Ridsdale et al. (2015), "Data literacy is the ability to collect, manage, evaluate, and apply data, in a critical manner."

Abstract Published studies on agile effort estimation predominantly focus on comparisons of the accuracy of different estimation methods, while efficiency comparisons, i.e. how much time the estimation methods consume was not in the forefront. However, for practical use in software development, the time required can be a very important cost factor for enterprises, especially when the accuracy of different agile effort estimations is similar. In this study, we thus try to advance the current standard accuracy comparison between methods by introducing efficiency i.e. time it takes to use a method as an additional dimension of comparison. We conduct this comparison between three agile effort estimation methods that were not yet compared in the literature, namely Planning Poker, Bucket System and Affinity Estimation. For the comparison, we used eight student teams with 29 students that had to use all the effort estimation methods during the course where they had to finish a programming project in 3 weeks. The results indicate that after the students get used to using the different methods the accuracy between them is not statistically significantly different, however, the efficiency is. On average Bucket System and Affinity Estimation methods take half as much time as Planning Poker.

Abstract: ... of translational inhibition and by enlightening potential obstacles and undesired side-effects, e.g ...

Abstract Eukaryotic protein synthesis is the highly conserved, complex mechanism of translating genetic information into proteins. Although this process is essential for cellular homoeostasis, dysregulations are associated with cellular malfunctions and diseases including cancer and diabetes. In the challenging and ongoing search for adequate treatment possibilities, natural products represent excellent research tools and drug leads for new interactions with the translational machinery and for influencing mRNA translation. In this review, bacterial-, marine- and plant-derived natural compounds that interact with different steps of mRNA translation, comprising ribosomal assembly, translation initiation and elongation, are highlighted. Thereby, the exact binding and interacting partners are unveiled in order to accurately understand the mode of action of each natural product. The pharmacological relevance of these compounds is furthermore assessed by evaluating the observed biological activities in the light of translational inhibition and by enlightening potential obstacles and undesired side-effects, e.g. in clinical trials. As many of the natural products presented here possess the potential to serve as drug leads for synthetic derivatives, structural motifs, which are indispensable for both mode of action and biological activities, are discussed. Evaluating the natural products emphasises the strong diversity of their points of attack. Especially the fact that selected binding partners can be set in direct relation to different diseases emphasises the indispensability of natural products in the field of drug development. Discovery of new, unique and unusual interacting partners again renders them promising tools for future research in the field of eukaryotic mRNA translation.

Abstract Background: Limited data exist regarding the effect of adjuvant radiochemotherapy on free flap volume in head and neck reconstruction. However, an adequate free flap volume is an important predictor of functional and patient-reported outcomes in head and neck reconstruction.
Methods: A systematic review of Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A total of 6710 abstracts were screened, and 36 full-text papers were reviewed. Nineteen studies met the inclusion criteria and were used to extract data for this analysis.
Results: A meta-analysis of 14 two-arm studies comparing the impact of adjuvant radiotherapy versus no adjuvant radiotherapy was performed. The main analysis revealed that 6 months postoperatively, irradiated flaps showed a significant reduction of volume (average, 9.4%) compared to nonirradiated flaps. The average interpolated pooled flap volumes 6 months postoperatively were 76.4% in irradiated flaps and 81.8% in nonirradiated flaps. After a median postoperative follow-up of 12 months, the total flap volume was 62.6% for irradiated flaps and 76% for nonirradiated flaps. Four studies reported that chemotherapy had no significant impact on free flap volume.
Conclusions: Compared to nonirradiated flaps, irradiated flaps were significantly reduced in volume (range, 5% to 15.5%). Clinicians should take this into account when planning the surgical reconstruction of head and neck defects. Conducting large-scale prospective studies with standardized protocols and well-defined follow-up measurements could contribute to defining the ideal, personalized free flap volume for optimal function and patient-reported outcomes.

Abstract Background: Understanding the communication between physicians and patients can identify areas where they can improve and build stronger relationships. This led to better patient outcomes including increased engagement, enhanced adherence to treatment plan, and a boost in trust.
Objective: This study investigates eye gaze directions of physicians, patients, and computers in naturalistic medical encounters at Federally Qualified Health Centers to understand communication patterns given different patients' diverse backgrounds. The aim is to support the building and designing of health information technologies, which will facilitate the improvement of patient outcomes.
Methods: Data were obtained from 77 videotaped medical encounters in 2014 from 3 Federally Qualified Health Centers in Chicago, Illinois, that included 11 physicians and 77 patients. Self-reported surveys were collected from physicians and patients. A systematic analysis approach was used to thoroughly examine and analyze the data. The dynamics of eye gazes during interactions between physicians, patients, and computers were evaluated using the lag sequential analysis method. The objective of the study was to identify significant behavior patterns from the 6 predefined patterns initiated by both physicians and patients. The association between eye gaze patterns was examined using the Pearson chi-square test and the Yule Q test.
Results: The results of the lag sequential method showed that 3 out of 6 doctor-initiated gaze patterns were followed by patient-response gaze patterns. Moreover, 4 out of 6 patient-initiated patterns were significantly followed by doctor-response gaze patterns. Unlike the findings in previous studies, doctor-initiated eye gaze behavior patterns were not leading patients' eye gaze. Moreover, patient-initiated eye gaze behavior patterns were significant in certain circumstances, particularly when interacting with physicians.
Conclusions: This study examined several physician-patient-computer interaction patterns in naturalistic settings using lag sequential analysis. The data indicated a significant influence of the patients' gazes on physicians. The findings revealed that physicians demonstrated a higher tendency to engage with patients by reciprocating the patient's eye gaze when the patient looked at them. However, the reverse pattern was not observed, suggesting a lack of reciprocal gaze from patients toward physicians and a tendency to not direct their gaze toward a specific object. Furthermore, patients exhibited a preference for the computer when physicians directed their eye gaze toward it.

Title translation Quality in coloproctology training : How is coloproctology training qualitatively integrated into the national training catalogue?
Abstract The incorporation of coloproctology as a part of the surgical training and further education of assistant and specialist physicians shows great differences between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In this article the international and national possibilities before and after specialist medical training are described in detail. In Austria, an optional coloproctology module can already be chosen in the third year of surgical training. Coloproctology is a compulsory component during the complete surgical training in Germany but a lower number of operations are required. In the basic module in Switzerland coloproctology is compulsory but contained in the operation catalogue to a lesser extent, although it has to be explicitly chosen in the further specialist training. The mandatory training in coloproctology in Germany enables all surgical assistants to undergo training, even if it is less intensive. As a result of partially compulsory and partially optional modules in Switzerland, a lower proportion of trainees receive specific training but it is more detailed. The number of trainees who are trained in coloproctology is even smaller in Austria due to the coloproctological training being optional. In the German-speaking regions a variety of specialized courses and further education are available for assistants and surgeons to further deepen their knowledge, no matter which form of training they had. At the international level the European Board of Surgical Qualification (EBSQ) for coloproctology has been available since 1998 and for many European specialists is the only possibility for formal specialization. The quality of a coloproctology training and further education curriculum may vary with national and international factors; however, it is a parameter for high standards in coloproctology in routine daily work, for the numbers of young coloproctology surgeons and is associated with a sufficient research performance in this discipline.

Title translation Screening auf mit rheumatoider Arthritis assoziierte interstitielle Lungenerkrankung – Delphi-basiertes Konsensus-Statement.
Abstract Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD) is a major driver of premature mortality in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Detection of RA-ILD is crucial but requires awareness among the treating physicians. To date, however, there is no international recommendation concerning screening for ILD in RA patients.
Methods: After a systematic literature review, the modified Delphi technique in combination with the nominal group technique was used to provide a Delphi consensus statement elaborated by an expert panel of pneumonologists, rheumatologists, and a radiologist. Based on the available evidence, several clusters of questions were defined and discussed until consent was reached.
Results: A screening algorithm for ILD in patients with RA based on clinical signs, respiratory symptoms, and risk factors has been developed. Further, the recommendations address diagnostic tools for RA-ILD and the follow-up of RA patients qualifying for ILD screening.

Abstract Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (Allo-SCT) is the only rapidly available curative treatment modality in patients with severe sickle cell disease (SCD). The development of reduced-toxicity myeloablative conditioning (RT-MAC) regimen and the use of partially matched family donors with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PT-Cy) have widened the access to Allo-SCT. Antibodies against donor-specific HLA (DSA) increase the risk of engraftment failure in HLA mismatched Allo-SCT. We report the results of five patients with SCD, whereas three with DSA, who underwent an unmanipulated haploidentical stem cell transplantation (Haplo-SCT) after a busulfan-based RT-MAC regimen with PT-Cy. To reduce the risk of engraftment failure, a sequential two courses pharmacological pre-transplant immune suppression (PTIS) phase was added prior to the conditioning regimen. All patients engrafted successfully. The procedure was well tolerated. None of the patients developed acute GVHD, whereas one developed moderate chronic GVHD. After a median follow-up of 5 years (range, 2.2-9), all patients are free of pain with excellent quality of life. Our report shows that Haplo-SCT after a RT-MAC regimen is feasible and safe with stable long-term engraftment and excellent disease control. The risk of graft failure can be abrogated by adding a PTIS phase prior to initiating the conditioning regimen.
