Abstract Background: Schools have a powerful influence on children's development and well-being, and school teachers are considered role models to transmit life values and instill health-related behaviors. The effectiveness of a training program for school teachers in understanding the role of sugars and their impact on oral and overall health has not been previously reported.
Aim: The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a training program for school teachers on the role of sugars in oral and general health.
Methods: An interventional study was carried out on 308 Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan school teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of a training program in improving school teachers' knowledge of the role of sugars in oral and overall health. The training program was carried out using a training module, and a validated questionnaire was utilized to assess school teachers' knowledge before and after the training program.
Results: The overall evaluation of mean knowledge change scores revealed significantly higher scores after the training program (8.12 ±1.58) when compared with the pre-training scores (6.84±1.66) Conclusion: A training program on the role of sugars in oral and general health effectively improved school teachers' knowledge.

Abstract This review provides an overview of conventional and novel retinal imaging modalities for hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) retinopathy. HCQ retinopathy is a form of toxic retinopathy resulting from HCQ use for a variety of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Each imaging modality detects a different aspect of HCQ retinopathy and shows a unique complement of structural changes. Conventionally, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), which shows loss or attenuation of the outer retina and/or retinal pigment epithelium-Bruch's membrane complex, and fundus autofluorescence (FAF), which shows parafoveal or pericentral abnormalities, are used to assess HCQ retinopathy. Additionally, several variations of OCT (retinal and choroidal thickness measurements, choroidal vascularity index, widefield OCT, en face imaging, minimum intensity analysis, and artificial intelligence techniques) and FAF techniques (quantitative FAF, near-infrared FAF, fluorescence lifetime imaging ophthalmoscopy, and widefield FAF) have been applied to assess HCQ retinopathy. Other novel retinal imaging techniques that are being studied for early detection of HCQ retinopathy include OCT angiography, multicolour imaging, adaptive optics, and retromode imaging, although further testing is required for validation.

Abstract Objectives: The genetic basis for the spread of vancomycin resistance in Enterococcus faecium is largely unexplored in India. The present study aimed to investigate the plasmid diversity and variation of Tn1546 associated with vanA harbouring VREfm isolates.
Methods: A total of 122 VREfm isolates collected from blood cultures were included in this study. MLST analysis was performed on all isolates, and they were also screened for the presence of vanA and vanB genes. Whole genome sequencing was performed for a subset of fifteen VREfm isolates belonging to ST1643.
Results: All of the 122 VREfm isolates carried the vanA gene. Twenty-four different sequence types were seen; of these, ST1643, ST80 and ST17 were predominant. Whole genome sequencing was performed on 15 VREfm isolates belonging to ST1643. For eight isolates the vanA gene was found on pRUM-like circular plasmids, and for the remaining seven isolates, the vanA gene was found on the linear plasmids. Novel Tn1546 variants carrying vanA were found on both circular and linear plasmids. Interestingly, co-presence of vanA and optrA were seen in the backbone of three linear plasmids.
Conclusion: Multiple vanA-carrying plasmids and Tn1546-like elements were involved in the dissemination of vancomycin resistance in VREfm. The co-occurrence of Tn1546 carrying vanA and Tn554 family transposon carrying optrA on the backbone of plasmids is worrisome. The dissemination of such plasmids may pose treatment and infection control challenges.

Abstract Background/aim: The majority of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) in childhood and adolescence occur in schools. Since school teachers are often the first responders, their knowledge about the emergency management of TDI needs to be adequate. The aim of this systematic review was to assess and analyse the global status of this knowledge as reported in previous studies and to provide recommendations for future research.
Methods: The protocol was designed as per PRISMA guidelines and registered in PROSPERO. A broad-based search using text-words and MeSH terms was performed in established databases as per a predefined strategy. Cohort-studies, cross-sectional, case-control studies and randomized/non-randomized trials without any distinction of language and year of publication were included while those without details of sampling strategy, validity and reliability were excluded. Data extraction was performed, risk of bias assessment was done by the Joanna-Briggs-Institute's critical appraisal checklist and meta-analysis was performed for four question stems using a random effects model.
Results: Twenty-three studies were included for qualitative analysis. Most of the studies had been conducted in Asia from 2009 to 2019. Ten studies used case-based questionnaires, mostly adapted from previous studies. Moderate to high risk of bias was observed in 14 studies. Less than 50% of teachers had witnessed a TDI in 8 studies and >75% desired to know more about TDI management in most studies. Less than 50% of teachers in 5 out of 6 studies knew about immediate replantation of avulsed permanent teeth, <25% knew about storage of an avulsed tooth in 16 studies and <50% knew about cleaning of a dirty avulsed tooth in 8 studies. Meta-analysis revealed I
Conclusion: The awareness level in several areas of the world is unknown. Studies lacked well-designed questionnaires and teachers exhibited low self-belief and knowledge level in the majority of studies.
