Abstract Background: Recent research identified that cancer bereavement can lead to post-traumatic growth (PTG). Although PTG and its correlates are well explored in cancer patients and survivors, persons bereaved from cancer have received scant attention. Therefore, the present review attempts to identify the correlates of PTG among persons bereaved from cancer.
Methods: A systematic search in PubMed, Web of Science, APA PsycNet, Science Direct, Scopus, and Wiley was conducted to identify quantitative studies published in English, resulting in 12 eligible reports being included in the final analysis. JBI critical checklists were employed to appraise the risk of bias.
Results: The review identified 17 correlates, which were classified into four categories: demographic factors (age, gender, religious status, level of education), loss-related factors (time since death, quality of death, prolonged grief symptoms), interpersonal factors (relationship to the deceased, social support, attachment style, bereavement behaviours) and intrapersonal factors (resilience, coping, rumination, benevolence, meaningfulness, self-worth). Random effects meta-analyses on six correlates revealed correlation coefficients of age = -0.02 (95% CI: -0.35-0.31), gender = 0.27 (95% CI: 0.08-0.45), time since death = 0.09 (95% CI: -0.02-0.20), quality of death = 0.29 (95% CI: -0.01-0.54), prolonged grief symptoms = 0.22 (95% CI: 0.08-0.35) and relationship to the deceased = 0.13 (95% CI: -0.03-0.29). Fixed effects meta-analysis was performed for social support (r = 0.13, 95% CI: 0.04-0.21). However, PTG was found to be significantly associated with gender, prolonged grief symptoms, and social support.
Conclusions: Very few studies examined PTG among persons bereaved from cancer, highlighting the need for increased attention, understanding, and conceptualisation of PTG in the population.

Abstract Different modes of attachment of graphene oxide (GO) on an electrode surface resulted in unusual catalytic behavior respective of attachment because of film thickness. The present work investigates the direct adsorption of GO to the surface of a glassy carbon (GC) electrode. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed that multilayers of GO get adsorbed on the GC substrate and the adsorption was limited by folding up of the GO sheets at their edges. π-π and hydrogen bonding interactions between the GO and GC substrate flagged the adsorption of GO. pH studies revealed that higher adsorption of GO was achieved at pH = 3 rather than at pH = 7 and 10. Even though the electroactive surface area of adsorbed GO (GO

Abstract Objective: To determine the accuracy of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA samples on filter paper in comparison to specimen transport medium (STM).
Methods: This was a cross-sectional diagnostic study of 42 consecutive women who were prospectively recruited. Each had self-collected vaginal samples on filter paper, physician-collected cervical samples on filter paper, and physician-collected cervical samples in STM. HPV DNA testing was performed with a Hybrid Capture 2 system (Qiagen). Sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value (NPV), positive predictive value (PPV), and agreement of filter paper methods with the standard procedure were calculated.
Results: The overall prevalence of HPV in STM was 67.5%. Detection of HPV DNA in the physician-collected cervical samples on filter paper had a sensitivity of 77.8%, a specificity of 100%, a PPV of 100%, and an NPV of 68.4%. The patient's self-sampling on filter paper had a sensitivity of 66.7%, a specificity of 100%, a PPV of 100%, and an NPV of 59.1%. The agreement between STM method and physician-collected sample on filter paper was substantial, (κ = 0.695, P < 0.001), while the agreement between STM and self-collected samples on filter paper was moderate (κ = 0.565, P < 0.001). Most patients reported that self-collection was acceptable (100%), painless (95%), and not embarrassing (95%).
Conclusion: Filter paper, with dried self-collected vaginal samples, can be used to detect high-risk HPV with acceptable accuracy.

Abstract Introduction: The Pragmatic Randomized Optimal Platelet and Plasma Ratios (PROPPR) trial rapidly enrolled patients based on an ABC ≥ 2 score, or Physician Gestalt (PG) when ABC score was <2. The objective of this study was to describe what patients were enrolled by the two methods and whether patient outcomes differed based these enrollments. We hypothesized that there would be no differences in outcomes based on whether patients were enrolled via ABC score or PG.
Methods: Patients were enrolled with an ABC ≥ 2 or by PG when ABC was <2 by the attending trauma surgeon. We compared 1-, 3-, 6-, 12-, 18- and 24-hour mortality, 30-day mortality, time to hemostasis, emergent surgical or interventional radiology procedure and the proportion of patients who required either >10 units of blood in 24 hours or > 3 units in one hour.
Results: Of 680 patients, 438 (64%) were enrolled on the basis of an ABC score ≥ 2 and 242 (36% by PG when the ABC score was <2. Patients enrolled by PG were older (median 44, IQR 28-59, p < 0.001), more likely to be white (70.3% vs 60.3%, p = 0.014), and more likely to have been injured by blunt mechanisms (77.3% vs 37.2%, p < 0.001). They were also less hypotensive and less tachycardic than patients enrolled by ABC score (both p < 0.001). The groups had similar Injury Severity Scores in the ABC ≥ 2 and PG groups (26 and 27 respectively) and were equally represented (49.1% and 50.8% respectively) in the 1:1:1 treatment arm. There were no significant differences between the ABC score and PG groups for mortality at any point. Time to hemostasis (108 for patients enrolled on basis of Gestalt, vs. 100 mins for patients enrolled on basis of ABC score), and the proportion of patients requiring a massive transfusion (>10 units/24 h) (44.2% vs. 47.3%), or meeting the critical administration threshold (>3 unit/1 hr) (84.7% vs. 89.5%) were similar (p = 0.071).
Conclusion: Early identification of trauma patients likely to require a massive transfusion is important for clinical care, resource use, and selection of patients for clinical trials. Patients enrolled in the PROPPR trial based on PG when the ABC score was <2 represented 36% of the patients and had identical outcomes to those enrolled on the basis of an ABC score of ≥2.

Abstract Purpose: Pathological complete response correlates with better clinical outcomes in locally advanced esophageal cancer (LA-EC). However, there is lack of prognostic markers to identify patients in the current setting of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACRT) followed by surgery. This study evaluates the utility of mid-treatment diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in identifying pathological responders of NACRT.
Methods: Twenty-four patients with LA-EC on NACRT were prospectively recruited and underwent three MRI (baseline, mid-treatment, end-of-RT) scans. DWI-derived apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mean and minimum were used as a surrogate to evaluate the treatment response, and its correlation to pathological response was assessed.
Results: Mid-treatment ADC mean was significantly higher among patients with pathological response compared to non-responders (p = 0.011). ADC difference (ΔADC) between baseline and mid-treatment correlated with tumor response (p = 0.007). ADC at other time points did not correlate to pathological response.
Conclusion: In this study, mid-treatment ADC values show potential to be a surrogate for tumor response in NACRT. However, larger trials are required to establish DW-MRI as a definite biomarker for tumor response.
