Abstract Purpose: Virtual surgical planning (VSP) is good for three dimensional reconstructions in maxillofacial surgery, but it is not problem-free completely especially when the resection margins cannot be affirmed in preoperative period. We aimed to obtain an ideal reconstruction with elaborating VSP to be prepared for adverse conditions during surgery and to proceed the oncological resections step- by- step with A, B, and C resection planes.
Patients and methods: Four patients undergoing multisegment VSP for the primary mandible malignancies were included in the study. The first resection margin was detected as plan A in VSP, and plans of B and C were also prepared considering the tumor- positive result of intraoperative frozen section procedure.
Results: Following the tumor resection, margins were extended to the plan B in two patients, and plan C in one patient in accordance with the results of the frozen section procedure.Histogram comparison of the localizations of osteotomies in mandible and fibula, and positions of the implants were calculated at a confidence level of 95 % (p > 0.95) and mean difference was found -0.55 mm, while standard deviation was 1.76 mm.
Conclusion: Multisegment virtual surgical planning seems to achieve the optimal reconstruction with the staged resection preventing redundant removal of tumor- free structures like bone and teeth.

Abstract Bu araştırmada Türkiye’de geniş kitlelerin beslendiği dini bilgi kaynaklarının başında gelen popüler dini kitaplardan hareketle nasıl bir din anlayışının gelişmekte olduğunun anlaşılması amaçlanmıştır.

Abstract Objective: A major part of the cytokines secreted from the immune system are interleukins (IL) and their main role is to stimulate the immune system cells. Therefore the genotypic effects of IL-6 and IL-10 on the immune system in CLL were investigated in the study.
Method: For this purpose 100 patients diagnosed with CLL and 70 healthy individuals with no cancer history were included in the study. Polymorphisms at IL10 and IL 6 promoter regions (1082 A\G and 819 C\T) and IL6 (174 G\C) polymorphisms were analyzed with RT-PCR. Genotype and allele frequencies were directly calculated.
Result: In 100 CLL patients, 45 wild type AA, 40 AG and 15 mutant type GG genotypes were found for the IL 10 1082 A\G region. Genotypic distribution of IL10 819 C\T region was determined as CC, BT and TT genotypes in 37, 50 and 13 patients, respectively. In IL 6 174 G\C region, GG, GC and CC genotypes were determined in 62, 30 and 8 patients, respectively. There is no statistically significant difference between the CLL patients and control groups in terms of IL10 1082 A\G, 819 C\T and IL 6 174 G/C regions (p> 0.05). As a result of the allele frequency calculation of the IL 10 1082 region, the values obtained were A (0.65), G (0.35) for the patient group and (0.61) and G (0.31) for the control group. 819 region allele frequencies were C (0.57) and T (0.33) in the patient group and C (0.48) and T (0.32) in the control group. The IL6 174 region was calculated as G (0.82), C (0.28) in the patient group and G (0.63), C (0.23) in the control group. Given the number of patients within the limits of this study, IL 10 and IL 6 genotype frequencies do not seem to be statistically related to CLL patients.
Conclusion: Mutant alleles of all interleukin SNPs were determined at a higher frequency in the patient group as compared to the control group. Therefore, a potential correlation between the SNPs of these interleukins and CLL can be determined in future studies with a higher number of samples.

    Abstract Background and purpose:

Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, frequently result in mood disorders among affected individuals. It is established that neuropathic pain arising from traumatic neuropathies is also linked to mood disorders. This study investigates the influence of neuropathic pain on the development of mood disorders in earthquake survivors with peripheral nerve injuries, following the earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. Additionally, we aim to assess the electrophysiological aspects of neuropathic injuries in these survivors.

    .
    Methods:

The study comprised 46 earth-quake survivors with electrophysiologically confirmed peripheral nerve injuries, with 39 trauma-free survivors serving as the control group. Neuropathic pain, anxiety and depression were assessed using the Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) questionnaire and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).

    .
    Results:

Our findings revealed that the ulnar and peroneal nerves were the most commonly injured structures. Among the survivors with peripheral nerve injury, 31 out of 46 (67%) were found to experience neuropathic pain. Furthermore, plexopathy and multiple extremity injuries were associated with more severe neuropathic pain. However, there was no significant difference in anxiety and depression scores between the two groups and neuropathic pain was found to have no independent effect.

    .
    Conclusion:

The study indicates that the intensity of neuropathic pain varies based on the localization and distribution of peripheral nerve injuries. However, the presence of peripheral nerve damage or neuropathic pain was not directly associated with HADS scores, suggesting that mood disorders following disasters may have multifactorial causes beyond physical trauma.
